Recent trends which you didn't 'get'

I'm trying to put 3 month old dc to sleep and am pondering over recent styles and trends that I just didn't see the appeal of. One that comes to mind is 'peplum', it will date quickly and looks quite tacky IMO.

Anyone else want to share their thoughts on recent styles/trends that just don't cut it.......

Too long strapless maxi dresses where the wearer has to walk around scrunching the fabric at crotch level so they don't trip over the hem.

NoComet · 03/08/2013 23:05

Toms, why walk down our highstreet in a pair of tatty grey slippers.

I hare the fashion for no socks, it's just unhygenic, uncomfortable and yuck. I want to see the edge of a trainer liner so I know its not a pool of sweat in your Vans.

dexter73 · 03/08/2013 23:07

I have to say I like about 90% off the clothes mentioned on here!

tethersend · 03/08/2013 23:10

Yyto wedge trainers- all the sartorial elegance of a sports shoe with the comfort of a high heel.

Hang on.

NeedSomeSun142 · 03/08/2013 23:10

crocs! on kids or adults no matter how comfy, they are ridiculous!!

also foundation lips, so your lips ate the same colour as your face?!?!

NoComet · 03/08/2013 23:22

I agee neon is awful on everyone, except the black lady in the neon orange vest who looked stunning.

Gingefringe · 03/08/2013 23:50

OMG that Panda skirt is truly horrendous.

Talking of Pandas - those silly hats with ears are also ridiculous.
Agree about maxi dresses - the short and fat tend to wear them around here - usually strapless with lots of tattoos showing.
Biker jackets with gold sparkly sleeves.
Disco pants (although I always wanted a pair like Olivia Newton John's in the 70s)

HappyMummyOfOne · 03/08/2013 23:51

I like skater dresses and not a dress person at all, suit petite people more i think due to cut.

Gladiator sandles and peep toe boots are just awful.

womma · 04/08/2013 07:28

Where do I begin....

Agree with just about everything on here...

Stripper shoes, why do you want to look like a sex worker?
Those bloody awful sandals that zip up the back, I hate them passionately! Ugg boots when they're knackered looking and worn down at the heel...

Can we just affirm that leggings look like shite on 99% of everyone? Especially the obviously super cheap ones that go almost see through over a big flabby arse ffs! I feel like saying ' seriously, if you could see what we can all see when you've got your back to us, you'd never wear that travesty of a trouser garment again!' Cover your bum and your camel toe up, or just get some proper kegs, puhlease!

Ditto the dresses which are short at the front and long at the back (usually worn the odious zippy fecking sandal) and maxi dresses.... god they look awful, especially the strapless ones. At least get a strapless bra for gawd's sake.

There's so much crap in the shops, and people are wearing it! Does no one have a bloody mirror?

MadAboutHotChoc · 04/08/2013 07:54

Leggings.

Ugg boots.

Maxi dresses.

Enough said.

womma · 04/08/2013 08:17

Short shorts, usually denim cut offs, with sheer tights, especially when the tights aren't sheer all the way up to the shorts... I really want to tell people they look like a shower if shit in them!

NoComet · 04/08/2013 10:41

Shorts so short the pocket flaps were hanging out at the front.
They were pretty flowery fabric as if they were meant to show ?Confused

Racer back TShits and ordinary bras, why.

Actually why any top or low waisted trousers which show your underwear ?

NoComet · 04/08/2013 10:45

Womma I can't stand the thicker bit on sheer tights showing in shorts or skirts either.

It's a bit the same as showing your underwear. The tight makers never meant that bit to show, it looks really tacky.

Onesleeptillwembley · 04/08/2013 10:48

starballbunny I haven't seen one, but I would definitely agree with Tshits not being a great fashion. GrinGrin

womma · 04/08/2013 13:28

starball it looks ruddy awful doesn't it?! Aargh!

ODearMe · 04/08/2013 14:07

I am not a fan of dog tooth!

....morph suits? Is that a fashion trend?

GraduallyGoingInsane · 04/08/2013 21:57

I agree about the reinforced top bit of tights - I see it a lot under the equally vile denim shorts with arse hanging out. I can't decide if it's worse than a bum cheek, very tacky!

Whilst we're on bum cheeks, those 'leather' or shiny Lycra knickers that are worn as shorts. Just say no.

Also wedge trainers - trainers are for sports or being practical (ie converse for school run or supermarket). Wedge trainers are not practical and you look like an idiot.

Not a fan of bandage dresses - unless you're rail thin you look fat and lumps show. If you're rail thin, you can wear what you want, so you'd look better in something else!

Crocs go without saying.

AlexReidsLonelyBraincell · 04/08/2013 21:59

Oh god those massive HUGE ring-donut buns atop of people's heads, usually accompanied by big spidery false lashes.

I've noticed some people around work with this particular style and have to practically bite my tongue off to prevent myself telling them how stupid it looks, they're wearing a nurse's uniform FFS! It looks so unprofessional and wrong somehow.

YoniTime · 04/08/2013 22:10

Something I really don't get is this summer's trend of too short, barely covering the butt-shorts. Very popular. Very stupid-looking. I especially don't get why teenagers - who are often very selfconsious - wear them.

mypavlova · 04/08/2013 22:16

ah I see wedge trainers have already been cited.

this is more from a couple of years ago but industrial strength belts on top of everything.

AmberNectarine · 04/08/2013 22:17

I wouldn't say there are many things I don't 'get', just lots that would look shite on me. However I really and truly loathe stripper shoes, they are just SO naff. I often see women dressed very nicely for a night out, then they go and ruin it buy donning a pair of hooves.

poorbuthappy · 04/08/2013 22:20

1 of the gymnast instructors at my kids class wore bum cheek skimming shorts at the display a few weeks ago.

She is lovely, her figure is fantastic, her skin is gorgeous, brown and smooth...

But inside I was screaming....its meant to be about the 4 year olds doing cartwheels not your fucking arse. And yes, we were all looking.

Time and place for everything.

mypavlova · 04/08/2013 22:22

what that time or place would be, i prefer not to think about poorbuthappy
