Recent trends which you didn't 'get'

I'm trying to put 3 month old dc to sleep and am pondering over recent styles and trends that I just didn't see the appeal of. One that comes to mind is 'peplum', it will date quickly and looks quite tacky IMO.

Anyone else want to share their thoughts on recent styles/trends that just don't cut it.......

Maxi dresses. With sleeves or without. Particularly on overweight women- I can talk.... I am overweight but I won't wear a maxi Grin

Gladiator sandals. Maxi dresses. Onesies and going out undressed, still in pyjamas. Slug brows. Mahogany fake tan. The 'isnt artfully teased but scraggy unbrushed' hair so beloved of pubescent girls.

That eyelash, fluffy teddy effect on jumpers and cardigans.

All totally flat shoes (make me legs look stumpy even tho they're slim), surely a half inch heel wouldn't hurt? The super flat shoes kill my feet, too.

Cropped jumpers: Merging tacky with downright daft.

Anything from Topshop except their Leigh jeans, which are super!

Converse ... not the look that bothers me, though. I just bought my first pair and the quality is rubbish. Won't be buying them again.

Zara were selling sleeveless coats
Peep toe
boots have got to be the ultimate pointless item

Sleeveless blazers
Peep toe boots
Leggings with short tops
The black & white vertical stripes fabric in Marc Jacobs' last collection - the models looked like Beetlejuice meets Jailhouse Rock.
Polyester summer clothing - especially dresses & beack cover ups.
The comb over hair style on teens (or indeed anyone!)

Jeggings as in leggings with jeans seams drawn on.
Wedge trainers. I want to like them but can't.
Men in mustard yellow/red trousers.

A resounding "yes" (or should that be no?) to flesh coloured trousers, peep-toe boots, mullet skirts, onesies, undercut hairstyles, geek specs (especially the fake ones), wedge trainers, pastel trousers, dresses with waistlines just below armpit level, jeans with waistlines just above arse-crack, and those bizarre coats with short/three-quarter length sleeves. Also random patches of leather and studs on jumpers and t-shirts - just odd.

My most-loathed trends though are more insidious: polyester/acrylic/viscose everything where silk, linen knits and cotton would previously have been used; natural fibre t-shirts and dresses which are so thin that they're practically sheer and bobbling after the first wash; difficulty of finding good basics at the right time of year (e.g. Zara's wonderful linen knit 3/4 sleeve t-shirts in gorgeous muted tones, which would have been perfect for autumn, winter, and spring, but only made a brief appearance in February before the transition to short sleeves and pastel colours happened).

Little boys with mullets and usually an earring; just why?
Bigger boys with their backsides hanging out - it's all I can do to stop myself pulling them up.

The panda face tube skirt is hilarious.

I think we should have some kind of hunt for it like the occasionally spotted wolf fleece!

A price for the first poster to take a photo of someone wearing it!

I might even go into topshop and try it on and take a picture!

Who in their right mind would wear that?!

Oh thank you all... I thought I was the only one who didn't get peplums and mullet skirts.

I quite like patterned leggings on my 6yo! On me, not so much.

My pet hate though is maxi dresses. I know they're practical and most people like them. But I don't. And not just because I'd look like mrs tiggywinkle in them! Otoh I'm not a fan of bodycon dresses for daytime wear either. I suspect I am just getting old!

Have we had stripper shoes yet?

Ghastly. Young girls who can't walk in them and older women who just look ridiculous.

It's going back a bit, but puffball skirts. Why?

YoniTime · 02/08/2013 19:28

The Face of The MingeGrin I really dislike those prints. In fact I dislike so much of the current fashion that it's going to be very easy to not overshop and very hard to actually find something to buy when autumn comes.

And yes the strippers shoes = awful.

Those wedge trainers definitely - I did try to like them, I even ordered some, but I just think they're just too emperors new clothes.

I quite like peplums. I'd like a leather one I think.

I don't see the point of sleeveless coats which I think were in Sept Vogue. I also don't like the toeless boots, but I think they look ok on other people (doesmybum look 40 for example) - they just have no place in my lifestyle whatsoever.

collar necklaces - the ones that actually look like a shirt collar. Why?

Dress or tops with one sleeve. Especially if the one sleeve is a huge bat wing affair.

I must be getting very old as one sleeve dresses actually irritate me!
