Paris that's a great board, now thinking I really love the Ted Baker, but think a pencil skirt would be better on me.....need a proper pencil skirt maybe of non jersey fabric............the search commences!

mignonette · 29/07/2013 21:43

One maybe look out for a skirt that has a grown on waist-it is fitted to just below the hips then sways outwards so as to avoid any extra fabric around the waist?

Dry I always look for pencil skirts with some stretch in and they do not have to be jersey. Sportsmax/MaxMara do those heavy stretchy ones. I foget what the fabric name is.

I have some old (lets call them vintage) midi skirts in heavy flannels-one is a deep midnight blue flannel with hip side pockets just like the Beckham styles so am very pleased They hang so well and keep me warm. Another is in grey/black.cream tweed with deconstructed hems and seams and was from TopShop back in 2004.

Parisisalwaysagoodidea · 29/07/2013 21:52

One Try Ebay for longer length tulle skirts, there are loads.

Dry My search goes on for a pencil skirt. Give me a shout if you find anything. It is a mega shame that Ted Baker don't do a pencil skirt in that print.

Mig Envy tanned legs

OneLittleLady · 29/07/2013 21:57

this kind of look

that's what I'm after mig the whole look really, just not in pastels, I prefer jewel or deeper colours and black

libertychick · 29/07/2013 22:03

That Ted Baker skirt is gorgeous Paris another one for the wishlist.

Another midi length fan here - I wear them with ballet flats and flat slippers - objectively I would look better with a heel but the need to walk wins over style!

These navy Boden shoes arrived today - so gorgeous and so uncomfortable Sad very hard leather. These silver sandals arrived as well - not good on a first try but will have a proper walk around the house in them tomorrow.

This breton is a keeper Thanks Amber!

QueenCadbury · 29/07/2013 22:12

paris I love that board and those looks. Sadly, the more I think about it the less I think that I can pull it off. I only do the school run and toddler groups. one I love the tutu too. I have a dress similar to this in black and haven't worn it for years. Last winter I considered getting it altered to become a skirt but just not sure I'd have the guts to wear it.

BrandyAlexander · 29/07/2013 22:20

Evening all. Fab fab day. Have drank Pimms, champers, pouilly fuisse (whats difference with fume Confused?) and tokjai tonight. Umm....bed now. Or water. Oh went to Next for emergency sweater. What's with the weird choice and even more weird vanity sizing? Hmm

Drywhiteplease · 29/07/2013 23:03

Tokai....yum Novice.... Neurofen, coke, orange juice, dairry milk and diet coke for you tomorrow am Grin

I think the fabric is a satin with some Lycra/elastane Mig... I agree a little stretch makes a great fit.

QueenC my job doesn't require formal suits as you know. Most of my time is spent in practical, child proof clothing which is why, when I go out, I go a bit bonkers! Your dress is beautiful........

Drywhiteplease · 29/07/2013 23:08

Novice I think fuisse is Chardonay grape and fume is Sauvignon blanc.

mignonette · 29/07/2013 23:09

These are a few of the new shape skirts I like -

One - [[http://pinterest.com/pin/457326537131445001/ this]] has a smoother waist to hip cut and is my favourite of the dressier skirts;

not a Midi but looks sharp;

Dreamy grey textural flannel and woollens from Dior. Would never spend what these cost but they inspire me.

mignonette · 29/07/2013 23:14

Liberty Those silver sandals are insane- I love them and the flash of Charteuse.

One - A tutu in Amethyst, Violet or deep Jade would be wonderful to waft about in wouldn't it?

Ha ha Novice - tying one on are we? Front loading with plenty of water for you I think if you want to avoid a head bomb tomorrow? I have bought some lovely Eau de Vie's on my hols- Myrtlle, Rose and Violet. Don't know whether to bathe in them, spray them on my wrists or drink them...

libertychick · 29/07/2013 23:24

Ha ha Mig I do love them so will have to see how the test run goes - I suspect they may be too uncomfortable though - delicate feet moi.

I bought this gorgeous Agnes B shirt several weeks ago but couldn't find it at the time to link/pin. I have worn it a lot - true love Smile

santamarianovella · 29/07/2013 23:33

dry dh and i love game of thrones,he even got his parents to watch it!you can totally get addicted to it,

paris i really wish! ,dh gave the pendant after i gave birth to dd, i have a sweet alhambra clover bracelet too.

ani neon pink looks awful on me! peach or orange is more forgiving.

liberty lovely sandals

BrandyAlexander · 30/07/2013 07:12

Morning all! why don't 2 year olds recognise that mummy had a big night?!Grin omg I ate my body weight in food in the last 48 hours! Dh and I were at the restaurant he were at when he proposed. Great night.

Have gone back and looked at yesterday's links. Linus, glad you're keeping the nano. Yellow bags are fab. I have a Smythson Nancy in yellow and it brightens up any outfit. It's a great statement colour.

Paris love your board, although I find full skirts drown me. I am just under 5'2" so only an inch ish shorter than you.

Amber, loved Sundays bag. Chloe Paraty one of my contenders for a/w. also think the new haircut is great.

Shop got your pm, I will email it to you when I am on my laptop tonight.
Marsha did you get my pm?

Drywhiteplease · 30/07/2013 07:14

Santa Grin at your DH making his parents watch G of T, my parents would have heart attacks if they watched it Shock, blood, guts and boobs all over the place which is prob why DS loves it

MarshaBrady · 30/07/2013 08:19

So much to catch up on have been reading and thinking oh that's lovely and I'll do a long post when I have time then thread gets longer.

Novice have pm'd.

Shop I feel the same about those A/W trends. It really does look like the last couple of years.

Liberty I love that shirt, it is really you bet it looks fabulous.

Paris love the skirt. Also love your style!

Sleep the red P Lim one? Am still pondering!

Anni not sure on jobs think I might have had the realisation I don't want to be there, am enjoying these holidays (well mostly!) and have a book to prepare for with ogher work, and feel ready to get back into that. However I do have a 2nd interview this week so will muse on it all. Flexible one like last time is best as from home but depends on which projects they win. If it's just a month or so work I might do it.

Foxy how are things?

Have another viewing on a house today. We are very close to making a decision. The last two times the owners have been there so have requested just us this time. I read on here it's the most disliked thing so didn't feel so bad asking. I realised it's just like trying on a dress at a store without a mirror and all the assistants look at you!

MarshaBrady · 30/07/2013 08:28

Linus great stuff about the bag. It's very pretty. Although harsh return requirements, I'm so used to online makes me wobbly thinking it Grin

QueenC glad you're feeling good. Yes to belt. I like Dry's hosting tips. The best ones I've been to are low lighting and champagne, everyone always has a good time.

MarshaBrady · 30/07/2013 08:35

Grumpy and Mignonette your holidays sound gorgeous.

I like your holiday style Mignon.

Novice love all the post indulgence posts, sounds very nice.

Santa I agree. Matches and NaP are the best.

Amber love the boots.

One well done on weight loss.

Ok hope I've got everyone! Am on tiny iPhone.

Drywhiteplease · 30/07/2013 09:03

Marsha that's odd, because I'd much prefer not being around when people were looking around my house.

MarshaBrady · 30/07/2013 09:13

I know me too Dry.

It makes it harder to visualise living there when you're making polite chat about the origin of the wood floors or whatever. Plus I need to imagine what the space is like with just us in it, not with extra adults. I know it's because they are invested in certain aspects of the home and they want to share it with us. But it's too distracting.

mignonette · 30/07/2013 09:29

Good Morning- went out late last night mainly because I sat on the terrace plugged into MN until very late- terrible of me. Just as well everybody seems to go out late here. We start our journey home later today so will be deprived of web time as have the fear of roaming charges! We are back in Ajaccio and catching the ferry back to mainland France. Am hoping to see a little more of France en route-we are taking our time to get home so making it part of the holiday.

Today I am wearing my Balmain silk bandeau top here with an old pair of grey cotton shorts and Swedish Hasbeens. A bit of a mash up I know but silk is so good at catching and trapping a cool breeze and wears well. I feel I have had to up my game clothing wise whereas some destinations you can be more casual. It'll be the drive back that presents more of a challenge as having to get out to stroll about, go out for a meal etc whilst trying to avoid looking like a band of travelling hoboes.

I wish you well with the house view Marsha. Such an exciting yet trepidating time isn't it?

Parisisalwaysagoodidea · 30/07/2013 09:34

Morning All.

Novice I know what you mean about full skirts swamping you. I'm going to Ted Baker today with a friend to see what she thinks. When I tried it on the other day I thought it possibly looked too dramatic and that I might feel self conscious. It could be that I felt like that because the shape was too overwhelming for my height and frame.

Marsha wise move going to see the place on your own. I spend viewings trying to be polite making small talk and leave the viewing with no idea if I want to buy or not!

Parisisalwaysagoodidea · 30/07/2013 09:37

Mig I love love love that bandeau. Have a lovely drive home. When we go to France and back we always do a couple of stop offs to make the journey part of the holiday.

mignonette · 30/07/2013 09:40

Paris It was £56 in the Hervia sale! And I will wear it so much as looks good under a blazer too. Where do you stop off when you drive through France? I want to visit the Isle De Re and the islands off the Mediterranean coast next time- tiny little things they are.

Sleepwhenidie · 30/07/2013 09:55

Paris I love that skirt, but can't imagine actually wearing it! Do you think it's because its such a departure from all the skinny jeans, body con (me&em style not necessarily Herve Leger) dresses etc that we've got used to wearing?

Mig your holiday sounds lovely. I love Corsica. We are driving through France soon too, down for 10 days stay in the Alps and a week further down South in a villa in Vence. Where do you (and you Paris) stop en route? We stayed in a great place in Lyon last year called Lyon Plage, it has a great spa and 50m outdoor pool. Loved Lyon too, even though we couldn't sample the amazing restaurants with DC in tow. Was very Hmm about sitting in McDonalds in the gastronomic capital of France Grin.
