MI, best of luck with the interview.
QQ, I'm sure your DS will be fine at Thorpe Park. DD1 and three mates (all 12) went recently sans adults; my only fears were that they would succumb to sunburn or sugar-poisoning.
I've had a really nice day; DD2 went to a friend's after school, so DS and I went shopping for shorts/shoes/teeshirts for his depleted wardrobe. He was absolutely lovely all afternoon; I just wanted to hug him, and kept thinking "why aren't you like this all the time?" He 'fessed up to having a girlfriend for the last two months (I did know, but hadn't dare ask); he was chatty, funny.......ahh, I know he'll be vile again tomorrow, but days like today give me hope.
We got home to find DH asleep on the sofa (he had a ridiculous 17 hour
working day yesterday, then was back in the office at 7am this morning), and dragged him to the pub, where we sat in the garden, ate BBQ food and chilled out, just the four of us; twas lovely.
