hello and welcome!

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 24/05/2013 18:23

Ah, is it that the gore is actually sitting on breast tissue chunky? I have this issue - I am not convinced I actually have a gap between my boobs at all. Strangely, I find that I am comfiest if the bra is quite high in the middle as it sort of goes over the flesh rather than having a "digging in" point. I know you said the cup wasn't right but how was the central gore on the Alana out of interest?

My best bras from this point of view are actually from Ewa Michalak - she has very narrow centres. It is a bit of trial and error but generally half cups are dire on me as my boobs try to escape back in to the middle. I need something which has more fabric higher up so will stop them doing this.

Does mean I can get cracking cleavage though!

ChunkyChicken · 24/05/2013 19:20

Statistically exactly - not so much digging in, more just laying on the outer edge of my boob, rather than curving around the perimeter iyswim. Not sure how the gore was on the alana actually, it just seemed a bad fit all over, so I didn't double-check it, although it came quite high up. The cleo juna is a half cup isn't it? Or are all balconette styles considered half cup? Where do you get ewa michalak bras from? Thanks.

There should be a GCSE in bras...Grin

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/05/2013 19:26

Unfortunately Ewa is online only (it's a polish company) so probably best to try and suss your size out a bit more first. The Juna is a Balconette which is a bit more full coverage than a half cup but not as big as a balcony. If that makes any sense.

Although the cups aren't right, it might be worth trying the Alana again just to try and see whether the wires are good or bad for you. Would help point you in the right direction.

ChunkyChicken · 24/05/2013 19:33

Will do that, thanks.

ChunkyChicken · 24/05/2013 21:59

statistically have tried the Alana again. 30FF. Band a bit too stretchy but not massively huge. Wires curve around and fit snugly under arms, although maybe not quite as far back as they should be to retain 'scoopage'. Top of cups (on lace detailing) fairly loose & empty, even with scoopage filling rest of cup. Gore high up but feels like it is still separating my boobs, rather than shaping/curving around them. Not digging in per se, although is definitely a different sensation to the massively baggy nursing bra I'm wearing... Leaves an impression in my flesh/red mark, although no painful. 30G definitely fits better under the arms, further round, so it feels more like its on bone not flesh. Gore still as high but still slightly separating the boobs. Cups not as big as I initially thought, although the lace bit is more empty than on the FF, the lower part is fairly full. Have back fat slightly bulging over the top of the band though!!

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/05/2013 22:17

Back fat = scoop more! :)

Because I literally don't have any gap between my boobs the central gore always sits slightly on boob rather than between, even with my Ewas. When I lie down (braless) there is still an ever so slightly fleshy section where the central gore would be. It's not to the extent that you would look at me and go "monoboob" but I think that because of this I will always have some marks from a central gore. For me, the most painful bra is actually a plunge - my "non-gap" goes the whole way down so the end of a plunge actually digs in which hurts like buggery sometimes. A bit of a forced gap hurts me less

If you do actually have a gap low down then a plunge might work.

If the (bad) description of my non-gap sounds familiar then another bra I like is the Bravissimo Betsy Bow. It's similar to the Alana, but it runs small in the back so where a 30 Alana is feeling a little loose the 30 might fit in this one.

The baggyness at the lace section is a tricky one and is more a style issue. I've suffered from it myself in the past as to get a bra which didn't hurt in the middle I needed something quite tall, but if this had enough space for my boobs at the bottom I'd have a wee bit of space at the top. But a size down - quad boob! Hmm

Sorry that may have confused you more!

ChunkyChicken · 24/05/2013 23:03

Thanks statistically that's helpful. I think my boobs have a v-shape between them - narrow/small gap at the top and slightly wider at the bottom. My, my boobs sound delightful, don't they??! So perhaps the plunge will work? I can but try... I have just looked at the Betsy Bow and 30G is the only size they don't have - they have the sizes either side, but knowing my luck, the size I need is a 30G in that bra! :( But I will bear what you have said in mind and try the higher up gore if the plunge is a no go and try a few different styles to get the one that fits. I think 30G is the right area size-wise though, given the way the underwire sits under my arms. Thanks again though!

Sometimes I envy men - no bras!!

marriednotdead · 25/05/2013 00:02

Evening all.

Chunkychicken If I have figured your boobs out right by your description (close set but wide base?) then the Freya Untamed and Deco may work for you, and the Idina if you can deal with a centre gore.

WetDog · 25/05/2013 02:52

Another question here. I have this sneaking suspicion my boobs have grown bigger since I bought new (correctly-sized) bras.

I was wearing a 38B for years thinking I was flat-chested, now I'm wearing a 36DD/E.

My bras are now digging into my armpits and I'm taking my bra off most nights when I get in from work as they've become uncomfortable.

I'm sitting here in a supportive vest and looked down, just now, and realised HOLY CRAP!!! (I actually did a little shriek!) My boobs are actually quite big now without a bra!

I think (I'm not sure) that scooping and wearing the right bra can help push them forward and make them seem bigger. Am I imagining it?

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/05/2013 07:49

you're probably not imagining it-scooping will be encouraging the lost breast tissue to migrate back to where it belongs

Juneywoony · 25/05/2013 08:29

Thanks statistically I will give those sizes a go too, your a wealth of boob infoSmile, thank you, x

ChunkyChicken · 25/05/2013 08:35

Thanks married. And yes, I think that's a good description - I have always had close set boobs, but I think breastfeeding/2 pg has turned my once proud football rounds into more of a teardrop shape. I'll add those to the list of suspects Wink

mrsmindcontrol · 25/05/2013 08:46

I've just measured myself, can anyone help me work out what size I should be?
37 under bust
44 over when bending 90 degrees.
Thanks :)

SorrelForbes · 25/05/2013 08:51

Try a 36F, 36FF, 38E and a 38F. I suspect the 36 back will be a better fit.

mrsmindcontrol · 25/05/2013 08:52

F???? FF????? Jesus wept!! I've been wearing a DD Confused

SorrelForbes · 25/05/2013 08:54

Grin. Well, all an FF means is a difference of 8 inches between measurements. It can be a shock at first though!

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/05/2013 09:41

That sounds like mine too ChunkyChicken.

pigleychez · 25/05/2013 12:34

Yesterday I took advantage of the 20% in Debenhams and stocked up on my new sized Bra's. I even got a lovely pink one in the sale plus 20% off so it only cost £4.60! Bargin!

32FF!

Still find it hard to believe after wearing a 36D for years! I think ive actually annoyed my mum by being a smaller band than her as she has a real thing about her weight and refused to believe me when I told her.

Finally I am wearing bra's that actually fits me properly!

Thanks for everyones help. :)

SorrelForbes · 25/05/2013 12:45

Debenhams are great for bargain bras. Sounds like it might be time to stage a bra intervention on your mum Grin

OohMrDarcy · 25/05/2013 12:53

right, more confused now... the 38G arrived

same issue wuth the middle bit...also noticed the back is still a bit too loose, can pull out an inch or so easily so I am guessing a 36 back needed, which doesn't seem right in a size 18 Confused Hmm

any guidance gratefully received. .. the middle bit isn't even close to laying flat, roughly an inch out..., will smaller back help that? or is it still cup size issue?!

sparkle12mar08 · 25/05/2013 13:00

Sounds like cup size to me, you might need to try one or even two cup sizes bigger? However if the cup fits otherwise it might also be a style issue, eg the gore might be too wide to actually sit between your breast space.

SorrelForbes · 25/05/2013 13:08

As sparkle says, you may need to go up at least another two cup sizes in that particular bra. Remember though, if you go down to a 36 you'll need to go even bigger on the cup to compensate, so, maybe order a 36H, 36HH.

buildingmycorestrength · 25/05/2013 13:58

Hello helpful bra ladies. I'm a slightly overweight size 14, bit squidgy, not obese.

I measure pretty much exactly 34" round the strap when I breathe in (so chest expanded) and 43" when over at 90 degrees (roughly...the nipples seemed to get in the way!). Sounds like 34 FF?

I like plain T-shirt bras, under wired, no padding. Just want your basic functional over-the-shoulder-boulder-holder!

Can't get to town easily so will order a few online and try at home.

Any suggestions? M&S? Debenhams?

OohMrDarcy · 25/05/2013 14:12

my super pretty bra doesn't come with bigger cups!!!

http://www.next.co.uk/g382230s1#835726g38 this is tge one I love (the grey)
anyone know of anything similar with bigger cups?
