hello and welcome!

OP posts:
GetOrfMoiLand · 22/05/2013 10:31

That is so funny, I read the sizing guide and counted up the cup sizes on my fingers until I got to F and just laughed. F!

Thank you very much for your help.

I am on brastop at the moment looking at loads of bras in the sale, so will order some and see what happens.

OohMrDarcy · 22/05/2013 13:15

I've ordered a 38F which should arrive tomorrow... just a next job for now - as I can return etc without worrying about paying each time... once I'm happy with the size I'll get something decent....

whats brastop?

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/05/2013 13:24

www.brastop.com good site for D+ bras that is often bargainous

For other bargains - and with free returns - of all places Amazon is often great

AmericasTorturedBrow · 22/05/2013 15:20

Thanks for American advice!!

Lambzig · 22/05/2013 18:17

Sparkle, I just wanted to thank you for your advice above.

I went to Debenhams today and tried loads of Freya on as it was in the sale. It was a toss up between the 32F that you predicted and a 30 FF. Went for the 32F in the end in the style i chose, but I will definitely be a 30 FF in some Freya styles. Cannot believe I have been wearing a 34C/D for decades.

Is Freya pretty standard sizing? Can I use this as a benchmark?

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/05/2013 18:19

I'd say Freya sizing is a good benchmark to start from. There is always a bit of variance between brands (although more in cup size than back size IME) but the majority of the time you will probably be within a size either side.

If you are looking at specific other bras then post on here - chances are someone will have tried it and be able to advise on sizing!

marriednotdead · 23/05/2013 05:35

Freya used to be a good benchmark for sizing. In the last year or two, they have become somewhat erratic, with very generous band sizing or loose cups, especially in their seasonal styles/at GG cup and above.

You will find that you will be at least a cup or a band bigger in most Panache styles, and often a further cup up in many Bravissimo own brand balconettes or half cups.

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/05/2013 07:47

that's just annoying married-I haven't bought much Freya lately apart from the lyla which seems to still be sensible so I hadn't realised that they had gone a bit bonkers.

Lambzig · 23/05/2013 07:49

DH has justvseen me in my new bra and said "good heavens, that's amazing, you look so much more up and out, really good". Then "is there anything Mumsnet can't fix?" (Recently MN has also advised us on a small legal matter, found us a town we want to live in and we are househunting there, and helped with weaning issues).

He would like to know if you could help with a cure for baldness, how to win the lottery and wonders if you would like a stab at running the country?

Thanks I only had a limited selection to try on in my sizes in Freya, but I did notice that some of the 32f I tried on were way too big in the band, but not the one I bought. How did I get to 46 and not know about scooping?

sparkle12mar08 · 23/05/2013 08:00

This stuff should be taught in high schools as part of the PSHE (or whatever it is called now) curriculum. Get 'em early and force M & bloody S and Co to sort their training out!

ChunkyChicken · 24/05/2013 12:10

I give up!!!

I have tried on 9 bras this morning & not a single one is any good.

I ordered 3 sizes (30FF, G & GG) in the bravissimo Alana, the Cleo Juna & the panache tango. I found the 30 a touch big in the Alana, but none of the cup sizes seemed right, the tango was baggy all over, even in the FF & the Juna was better in the band and although the GG seemed to fit the width of my boobs under my arms better, there was nothing to fill the top half!! All 3 styles dug into my boobs in the gore - almost as if the width of the wires in the centre is too wide!!!

What do I do now (apart from cry and take out a mortgage to buy bras in Rigby & Peller)??!

sparkle12mar08 · 24/05/2013 12:39

You have to just keep on going I'm afraid - I said it upthread, it takes weeks and weeks of time (and money till the refunds come through), but there will be something out there for you, there will!

ChunkyChicken · 24/05/2013 14:35

Thanks sparkle. I think I'm going to try a non-balconette style, so the gore is a bit lower... Back to the Bravissimo website then :)

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/05/2013 14:52

chunky chicken can you describe what is wrong with each of the bras? might help us identify your shape and size a bit better.

OohMrDarcy · 24/05/2013 16:11

Ok,

first bras arrived. ... 38 back much better and pretty sturdy on the loosest hooks

cup at first glance good, but center bit doesn't lay flat.... need a bigger cup? they don't appear to do an FF in this bra type, so have ordered a G to try as its a lovely bra!

Will arrive tomorrow so fingers crossed! , Boobs felt ginormous though, will be interested to see how many men notice at work on monday!! Grin

Once I get the right fit with this one... should I be reasonably safe in that size elsewhere? Its next by the way

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/05/2013 16:22

vague recollection that next don't do a ff at all so try a g there but that would be a ff elsewhere

PattieOfurniture · 24/05/2013 16:48

I've lost quite a bit of weight recently but not off my boobs. I measured using the methods shown and I'm 29 under bust 41 bending over across bust.
Where on earth can I buy bras with these measurements?

Help!

PattieOfurniture · 24/05/2013 16:53

Forgot to add I've been wearing 34 f

ChunkyChicken · 24/05/2013 17:11

statistically I'll try!!

Best fitting one: Panache Tango balconette, in a 30FF. It seemed to fit well on the band, without stretching too far but still possible to put on back to front & twist round. It seems to fit okay under the arms and hold some of the scoopage. It was loose across the cup, although with scoopage etc, not too bad, so could almost accept I would just need a smaller size, except for the gore issue. The gore dug in to my boobs, rather than laying flat between them.

Alana - all 3 sizes, baggy at the top and a bit loose/stretchy on the band.

Cleo Juna - 30GG seemed to sit well under my arm, with the underwire laying on my rib cage and allowing all 'side boob' to be retained, but the top of the cup was completely empty and the underwire dug well into my boobs on the gore.

Have ordered different sizes of the panache tango plunge bra to try to see if the style resolves the gore issue. Am also trying a Cleo deco soft cup. Not sure these will be the best styles given I'm still breastfeeding, so wonder if I might 'flop out' a little in the middle, but willing to try...

Thanks.

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/05/2013 17:12

try a 30 h, 30hh, 28hh and 28j. bravissimo, brastop, mycurvesandme, debenhams, john lewis, amazon. ..

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/05/2013 17:13

last post was to pattie

SorrelForbes · 24/05/2013 17:39

ChunkyChicken I get some gaping at the top of my Cleo Juna (also 30GG). However, marriednotdead recommended that I try the Panache Idina balconette and I have to say that it's a better fit. Might be worth a try?

SleepyPiglet · 24/05/2013 17:45

Hi

Just wanted to say, after reading these threads I measured myself and went bra shopping today - gone from a 38C to a 32GG!! Now wearing new bra on a night out and feel so much better!

PattieOfurniture · 24/05/2013 17:46

Thankyou Flowers

ChunkyChicken · 24/05/2013 17:48

Thanks sorrel I'll look into that one. Tbh its more the squishing of boobs/digging in gore that's a concern for me. I mean, it's always happened but put that down to wearing the wrong size. Apparently my boobs are saggy & too close together Blush
