Calling all HOC winters.....

So, I had my colours done yesterday and I am now a sprinter winter. My best colours being royal blue, electric blue, damson, lagoon blue and light emerald.

Of course a shopping trip is now required Grin so I'm just after any inspiration by what you fellow winters have recently bought...

I'm a sprinter so sit on the edge of winter verging towards spring ie the bright colours are best for me. I see things like cool and clear and bright online but don't think they're Hoc....?

Thanks for the welcome. I've worn the raspberry/fuschia top and strong blue cardi together and they looked good! I went through some of my wardrobe and put aside lots of browns, greens, yellows, kakhis. If truth be told, some had been lingering in there for years and rarely worn. Now bracing myself for shoes and bags too. Do I really throw the animal prints?!

Another type of winter is sultry.

Neena28 · 23/08/2013 17:04

Kezztrel I'm a sultry winter and you sound like me?

Kezztrel · 23/08/2013 18:47

Sultry rings a bell actually Neena! Not that it matters, I'm just wondering. I want to know why certain colours look good and not others - because I can do scarlet (double star at 100% and 75%), which I would have thought is very bright, but some bright pinks and blues really overwhelm my face. Overall my best colours are the deep and ice colours (decided to study my HoC book more closely this morning in a moment of boredom!) - maybe that means I lean more towards Autumn than spring, which would make sense with my brown hair and eyes. Am really tempted to buy the iced mint Topshop jumper I linked upthread, just cos it's such an unusual colour to find! Don't need and it's expensive....

QueenCadbury · 23/08/2013 19:16

ketzztrel buy it I've had nearly a whole bottle of Viognier.

I do find it weird that even in a small group of winters that we all suit such different colours in the palette. The deep colours overwhelm me a bit and are better at shoes/belts etc although I love burgundy. I have a burgundy cardigan but I can now see that it looks nowhere near as good as the cobalt, cerise or scarlet ones I have.

I think I've resigned myself that I need to just wear bright colours to look good.

aftermay I'm going to be brave and try colour blocking!

Kezztrel · 23/08/2013 19:35

Queen that's great though, I sometimes end up looking really sombre and dull in lots of black and grey and dark colours. Wish there were more ice coloured clothes around instead of all the dull pastels that are everywhere. I guess the dyeing process to create a sharp, icy colour is more tricky than just greying out a stronger colour to make a pastel.

I'm so buying that mint jumper Grin

QueenCadbury · 23/08/2013 20:57

Maybe we just all want to wet what we can't? I love blacks and dark colours and although they don't look bad as such, they just don't look as great as the bright colours. Sometimes it was easier before the colours were done Grin.

Any sprinters/brights out there...? I've compiled yet another pin board. This one is purely for my best colours-greens,blues, purples with a bit of pink/red thrown in. I'm trying to give myself confidence to ditch the grey/navy/black and embrace 2-3 colours at one without looking like a kids tv presenter Grin

OP posts:
Kezztrel · 23/08/2013 21:23

I love that board Queen!!! I want to be brighter Grin I reckon I can get away with some of it - love the cobalt scarf and hot pink clutch together. Also love the bright pink jumper with a scarlet scarf. None of them are children's TV presenterish at all.

QueenCadbury · 26/08/2013 07:19

Morning winters.

ketztrel did you buy the jumper?

I went shopping yesterday and was so excited by all our colours around! I only bought black and navy trousers and a navy blazer though! But I did try on other stuff to try and make me braver with colour combining. It didn't!

this top is a lovely emerald colour and also comes in cobalt.

Gap had cobalt jumpers and a cardigan. They also have a lovely red and cobalt patterned scarf (not online) which I bought but am taking back as I'm not really a scarf person. I just loved the colours.

Oasis have lots of burgundy colours

Nothing caught my eye in m&s but I did spend most of my time in the school uniform department!

I also bought Rimmel diva red lipstick. Have only had chance to have a quick try on but it seems to be a really good colour.

Hello

Another fellow winter here. I probably had my colours done about 15 years ago. I used to pretty much stick to black and white in my 20's and early 30's and only really embraced the brighter colours in the last 5 years. I'm happy with my jewel colours now, although I tend to wear them with a dark neutral, generally navy or charcoal grey. I am def going to try combining jewel colours this a/w. Although at work, I think it would difficult to get away with it (I work in a conservative industry).

Recent purchases have included a navy wool Jack Wills cropped blazer (in the sale) and two Crumpet tops from TKMaxx - a bright pink tank and a silk one which is black at the front and cream at the back. I know cream isn't a Winter colour but I figure it doesn't matter as it's not near my face!

Queen thanks for those pintrest boards, they are great!

Kezztrel · 26/08/2013 08:32

I've ordered the jumper Queen, they didn't have my size in store :)

I am very much a scarf person and the Gap one sounds lovely so will have a look.

I have also bought this skirt in damson/navy. Love all the damson around atm. I think my winter wardrobe is pretty much complete... ought to stay away from S&B for a while really!

QueenCadbury · 26/08/2013 08:51

Lovely skirt keztrel. Just seen your other thread-not at all Dennis!

I will admire your willpower if your wardrobe really is complete and you stay away.

Kezztrel · 26/08/2013 09:13

I will make myself come and confess on here if I do buy anything else! If the Gap scarf is lovely I may get that. But that's it Shock I've bought 3 cosy jumpers already this year and it's not even cold yet.

Fairyliz · 26/08/2013 09:20

Queen I love your pinboard I swooned over the royal purple top and chinese blue coat. Although these colours suit me its just having the courage to wear them.
Like other posters I tend to stick with black/grey/navy and a bright top or cardi. Have just bought a colbalt blue cardi from TK Maxx which I wore with denim and a white tee. Fairly basis but I felt good for an around the house/ housework day.

MadAboutHotChoc · 27/08/2013 14:09

Popping in to say hello - I shouldn't even be on here, got far too much on at work!

Will come back soon when I have read this thread properly but in the meantime can anyone tell me what colours do burnished winters look best in?

Mashedupbanana · 27/08/2013 20:42

Hi Winters,
Brora have a flash sale on until midnight tonight with some fushia knits of anyone is interested.

QueenCadbury · 28/08/2013 06:48

http://www.gap.co.uk/browse/category.do?cid=98665&departmentRedirect=true#department=136 gap cords are new in. There's a berry and cobalt. I've ordered navy Grin. There's also a nice berry cord jacket which I was tempted by!

QueenCadbury · 28/08/2013 06:51

Also, tell me ladies, now that we all look fabulous in our bright or sultry colours would it be really dull to buy a black dress for my 40th? I had been looking at cobalt colours but I've suddenly changed my mind and want a classic lbd. Wwyd...?

OP posts:
KosherBacon · 28/08/2013 07:18

I'm having my colours done this morning. I suspect I'm a winter (or very maybe a spring) so I might be joining you folks this afternoon.

SprinkleLiberally · 28/08/2013 07:36

Read the thread with interest. Thanks. Can you tell me what a winter who edges into autumn is called at HoC?

MadAboutHotChoc · 28/08/2013 08:28

Sprinkle - think its a deep/sultry winter?

Queen - I love black dresses, such a classic and so easy to ring the changes using different shoes, bags, belts, jewellery, jackets, cardigans etc. I think Indigo/dark navy is a fantastic alternative to black if you want to be a bit different.

Have decided not to buy anything until the weather has turned cold and there is more winter stock in the shops but will now have a look at the gap link...

aftermay · 28/08/2013 09:03

MadAboutHotChoc - I'm burnished winter and my best colours (with ** at 100%) are grey, royal purple, navy, fuschia, raspberry, damson, burgundy, carmine, dark emerald. So a huge choice for me and nothing burnished about it either! I thought burnished meant a bit dull or off-colour but it's all quite lovely.

I've had a few photos yesterday in my new dark bright blue jumper and I look much better. I need to sort out my hair which still has red tones in it. I'll go dark brown.

Thanks for the links. I'll be looking for combinations of colours too. In fact I've been looking at people and thinking 'that colour doesn't suit you'.

Has anyone watched Breaking Bad? There's some serious colour matching going on there. I hope I don't start re-arranging soft furnishings as well.
