Calling all HOC winters.....

So, I had my colours done yesterday and I am now a sprinter winter. My best colours being royal blue, electric blue, damson, lagoon blue and light emerald.

Of course a shopping trip is now required so I'm just after any inspiration by what you fellow winters have recently bought...

I made a couple of 'Winter' purchases in Gap yesterday, a cobalt trench coat and an emerald green blazer, which annoyingly I can't find online to link a pic.

Just need some trousers which aren't jeans and the Holy Grail, which for me is smart but comfortable shoes which I can wear to walk for miles, at speed!

Any recommendations for wedge sandals or flats would be gratefully received, I lived in filthy Birkenstocks last year, but would like to smarten things up if possible this spring / summer

I'm happily ordering summer stuff online - I'm returning most of it, as I can't possibly afford it all, but I'm very excited about buying some summer clothes as I normally find summer very difficult and I've been putting off buying things until I had my colours done. I was pretty sure before I went that I was either a summer or a winter but always seem to get it wrong in hot weather - cold weather clothes are much easier for me to get right.

I really like this dress (it is surprisingly flattering on me) and I have picked out some navy flats and some navy and white peep-toe wedge espadrilles that I love.

Like HeyLuciani I am thinking navy and white... I am putting together a warm weather capsule wardrobe based around navy and grey cropped/ankle grazer trousers and (mostly white) tops, but I am keen to add some colour in there as well. I would like some 100% cotton/cotton-with-a-bit-of-elastane tops that are short/half-sleeved but I'm struggling to find anything I like that isn't white.

I'm also having a terrible time looking for scarves - I would quite like some patterned ones in jewel winter colours. Has anyone found any??? Everything I see is pastels. I normally only wear scarves as winter neck-warmers, so this is a bit of an adventure for me .

Another lovely dress Jenny Wren, my sister bought a similar one recently from Fat Face which was very flattering due to empire line shape.

I really like the espadrilles you linked to, leather lined suggests comfort, are they?
If there is a seam or slightly tight edge they will be guaranteed to shred my feet. Not sure what is wrong with my sensitive trotters but I really struggle with most shoes, can't even manage Clarks ballet flats FFS!

I saw a few jewel scarfs in Gap and TK Maxx always have loads so might be worth a look there.

I'm a sultry winter too! Have spent rather too much money on my colours - I've bought a lot of navy and white (wore a white t shirt to work yesterday and spilt coffee on it within minutes grrr) and like Jenny am intending to wear Pops (!) of colour with it. I've found a couple of lovely tops in Jigsaw in light pink and blue. they have lots of nice things in there (expensive though). And also I got a sparkly mauve jumper in the sale from Whistles. These are colours I would never have worn, but the ice blue/lilac/pink/mint colours all came up as starred ones for me.

I'm looking for more royal blue/lobellia and raspberry stuff now - so will try dotty p's and Gap. I bought some linen t shirts in zara but they're too see through for me.

i also want some skirts.

oh and make up. What are you all wearing on your nails and lips? I did buy some of the HoC lippy, but it is just too pink on me. I feel like Cheryl Cole when I wear it. and not very appropriate for my lifestyle. So I want something less bright I think.

Beattie as a Winter if you go too soft/pale/nude in lipsticks you'll very quickly look washed out, but there are lots of shades to play with if the one you have feels too pink. I quite often have clients over just to try on some shades, even if they don't want to buy - perhaps your consultant would let you pop round to try on a few lipsticks...

Who was looking or t-shirts? On phone and can't remember! Have you checked kettlewell?

Love that trench coat from the Gap. I found loads of cheap scarves on ebay by typing in the colour I wanted in the search button -this is a good one for summer scarves.

lake I'm in love with that trench. I would have always gone for navy but now I'm really tempted...

I already owned a bobbi brown gloss in pink raspberry which seems a good colour and not too vivid so great for daytime. If you've got long hair though which blows about it sticks to it though!

LakeFlyPie The espadrilles are really comfy - I've had to send them back and change to a bigger size, but already I can feel that they're going to be brilliant. They have a funny kind of pad under the ball of the foot which felt strange when I first put on the shoe but when you get used to it being there all you feel is cushioning.

Hopefully I was looking for t-shirts. I ordered a couple from Kettlewell and although I've kept them they're a bit viscose-y and I'm not keen enough to order more. I'll keep looking though.

Just invested in a dark navy denim Hobbs skirt which should work with them too.

I got some Kettlewell tops last year (the V neck 3/4 sleeve ones) and have been rather underwhelmed by them.
They're OK and have washed quite well but the colours aren't amazing and they are very viscose-y.

Re lipstick I'm really impressed with the Revlon lip butters which I got following a previous MN thread.
I got red velvet, raspberry pie and berry smoothie and love all of them.
My lips can get very dry and I find the colours very wearable and the texture moisturising.

I have a Bourjois Lovely Rouge 'rouge best 15' which I think should be the right tone for me but it's so very pigmented I can't get my head around wearing it, am sticking to lip butters for now

Did a quick fly by the shops today, didn't have time for a proper trawl but can report that Gap have lots of stuff in cobalt blue and navy (dresses, trousers, skirts and t shirts).

Fat Face have a sale with some lovely navy and white stuff including the dress I linked up thread, which is reduced to £25 my DSis will be cursing but sadly wasn't flattering enough to persuade me to make a purchase

The cobalt colours in gap are lovely. Just a shame that the dresses made me look like a sack of spuds .

I went into a local boutique today and found a scarlet cardigan. Wow, it is bright! I'm so used to wearing muted tones that bright ones suddenly seem really in your face.

My hoc number 62 lipstick is here but haven't had a chance to try it properly yet but will report back when I do.

mashed how are you getting on with your colours? Was it a shock being a winter?

I remember my Dsis having his done in the '80's! Is it a good idea? I have 4 heaving wardrobes full of clothes and end up wearing the same old thing. Just looked it up and there's a consultant at the end of my road!

What a fantastic thread! I've been struggling to come to terms with going back to my natural hair colour after 20+ years of highlighting, vibrant lipsticks, and clearing out my favourite teals, corals, beige and chocolate clothes...

So, lipsticks:
mac lady bug a red that is less bright than ruby roo
mac plumful another lustre lipstick from mac in bright plum
mac lustering a sheer bright fluorescent fuschia for summer
HOC 54 damson my best lipstick ever

Blushers:
bobbi brown maui although called 'illuminating brozing powder'' this is actually a lovely cool pink bronzer with a tiny hint of shimmer that gives me cheekbones
B34 HOC as I am a burnished winter. Goes well with all red lipsticks

masheupbannana if anyone has done the style day, let us know if it was worth it

mashed I haven't done the style day although definately would if I returned to work but at the moment as a SAHM with a toddler I don't feel I need it.

I think I may have mentioned further up thread about how scary the bright red lipstick is and how dh hates it. I was having a play around last night and it definately needs a strong look to go with it. I always thought go natural on the eyes if wearing bright lips but on me it needs eyeliner and lashings of mascara and also looks best wearing a strong colour top like black or red.

hops basically you sit there with no makeup on, hair scraped back so looking about as bad as possible. The consultant will then drape lots of coloured scarves around you firstly to work out whether you are better in cool or warm tones and will then work you out to be a season (either spring or autumn if warm or summer or winter if cool). It really is amazing seeing how different colours have such an effect on how you look but with the right colours you just look more alive. You also get to try out lipsticks and given basic make up advice. You get a wallet with swatches of your colours in which get scored to which ones are best for you. It really is well worth the money. I love the prescriptiveness of knowing what is right or wrong and when I go shopping you can zone in on just your colours.
