Calling all HOC winters.....

QueenCadbury · 21/04/2013 09:21

So, I had my colours done yesterday and I am now a sprinter winter. My best colours being royal blue, electric blue, damson, lagoon blue and light emerald.

Of course a shopping trip is now required Grin so I'm just after any inspiration by what you fellow winters have recently bought...

QueenC - a LBD sounds good too especially if you're more comfortable in that colour.

I have had a deep seated aversion to 'Tory blue' IYKWIM (because I think of tories, a bit irrational, i accept) and I don't have anything in that colour. Luckily it's not one of my best either and there are enough blues left for me.

aftermay · 28/08/2013 09:08

KosherBacon - have a good session!

Kezztrel · 28/08/2013 10:04

QueenC no I don't think an LBD would be dull at all - it's making the most of the fact that classic black is flattering to us winters!

Kezztrel · 28/08/2013 10:05

Does anyone know whether 'burnished' winter and 'sultry' winter are the same thing?

Kezztrel · 28/08/2013 10:06

I've been watching Breaking Bad aftermay - hadn't noticed the colour matching, been too distracted by the insane storyline and all the blood! It's so good.

aftermay · 28/08/2013 10:16

In Breaking Bad - Marie wears purples and her house is full of purples. My DH bought me a purple kettle the other day as I'd noticed it in BB. Skyler wears lots of icy blue, greys and cobalt. I don't know when I started noticing it, not from the beginning.

aftermay · 28/08/2013 10:18

Sultry and burnished winters - I think they're different as I had the colours at the same time as another lady who turned out to be a sultry winter.

Kezztrel · 28/08/2013 10:26

Ah great thank you aftermay, they must be different in that case! So:

sultry winter = winter moving towards autumn (best colours are at the deeper end of the palette)

spinter winter = winter moving towards spring (best in brights)

burnished winter = winter moving towards summer (best in the softest versions of the winter colours and the ice colours)

Does that sound right?

Kezztrel · 28/08/2013 10:27

sprinter winter, sorry, not spinter Blush

MadAboutHotChoc · 28/08/2013 11:21

aftermay - thanks...looks like I am not a burnished winter then. What is your colouring like?

To sultry winters - what are your best colours? Although my colouring is not dark (pale skin, blue eyes), I look best in the darker/deeper colours of the winter palette.

Keztrel - don't forget jewel winters, maybe they sit right in the middle, not leaning towards other seasons?

Kezztrel · 28/08/2013 11:41

Good point MadAbout! Maybe my way of looking at it in the post above is not that helpful after all.... Unless jewel winters are as you say and sit right in the middle.

I guess even two jewel or two sultry winters will have different colours that work best, because we're all going to have slight differences in hair/eye/skin tones.

I think I'm a sultry winter as I look best in the deeper colours - I have pale skin with dark hair and eyes, and my paleness means that some very bright colours drain me. Weirdly I scored pretty high for ice green, but not very high on the other colours - that might be because pine green and light emerald are two of my best colours, so the ice version works too. But generally I look best in burgundy, damson, cobalt, aubergine, or true red (scarlet).

I wear all the colours in the winter palette though because they all look good - apart from Mole and Lemon, which look unspeakably bad for some reason Confused

Kezztrel · 28/08/2013 11:42

that should have said 'not very high on the other ICE colours'

aftermay · 28/08/2013 12:18

Mad - I'm quite dark-sallow skinned, hazel eyes, dark brown hair originally. I've been wearing lots of colours, including the wrong ones. I'm not shy of using colour but perhaps not combining them.

Kezztrel - how lovely you can use greens.

Kezztrel · 28/08/2013 12:30

I do like greens aftermay but sometimes feel a bit wicked witchy in them! A bit like snow white's stepmother Grin

MadAboutHotChoc · 28/08/2013 12:30

Aftermay - did you get advice about how to combine colours during your consultation?

Kezztrel, I can't do lemon either. Ice colours are ok - not great though.

As for the jewel colours - these come up as wow for me but only as 50% of my outfit.

Mole is one of my 100% wow colours - this is supposed to be a typical sultry winter colour. My other 100% best colours are charcoal, black, burgundy, navy, indigo and pine. I used to be able to do 100% white but not now - only when tanned or wearing dark colours to tone it down. Hmm...it looks like I am a sultry winter then - wasn't sure if I would be given my colouring.

AmberNectarine · 28/08/2013 12:32

I'm a sultry winter and mine are Pine, Burgundy, Navy, Charcoal etc, so the real deep ones. Ice pastels not good - think I got one tick for all of them.

MadAboutHotChoc · 28/08/2013 12:33

Grin at Kezztrel. I love green as well as blue. Not a fan of pink though.

MadAboutHotChoc · 28/08/2013 12:34

Amber - how well can you do the jewel colours?

aftermay · 28/08/2013 12:37

I didn't get advice about colour combination - just what I read in the booklet. Important tip there to buy things you love on their own and big because they'd gk with something else.

I was advised about neckline, though (the more 'shaped' ones, V and the like). Again, a change from the soft rounded necks k tend to use.

KosherBacon · 28/08/2013 13:56

I am back and I was right, I am a winter. I was expecting to be more of a jewel winter, but it turns out that I am more of a sultry winter.

Has anybody got any good pinterest boards for sultry winters?

shelley72 · 28/08/2013 14:13

Have been lurking but please may I join? If I can find my book with my star ratings would it be possible to tell what type of winter I am? I don't remember the lady mentioning anything of sultry, sprinter etc.

Also looking for inspiration for some new clothes post baby, am a sahm so nothing too smart needed. Joined pinterest yesterday but can't fathom it out yet. Would that be good for collecting ideas do you think?

At the moment I look pretty awful and washed out so want to make the most of anything new I buy.

MadAboutHotChoc · 28/08/2013 14:32

hi Kosher - hope you are pleased to be a winter? I remember being so relieved as I had so much black in my wardrobe. Remember that in theory you can wear all the colours in the palette (with one or two exceptions) so if you want to wear jewel colours you can (and be guided by the ratings) as that's what I do otherwise my wardrobe just looks drab and boring.

Shelley - welcome! My analysis was several years ago before they had types so that's why I have just been trying to work out what kind of winter I am. Tell us your colours and we will help you work out what you might be.

To follow a pinterest board, click onto the follow button. You need to create a board of your own if you want to pin images onto it so that you can refer back to it.

MadAboutHotChoc · 28/08/2013 14:38

aftermay - that is good advice. Build it up slowly - if you like scarves, that's a great way of adding colours. I have decided to start getting shoes and bags in bright colours - inspired by pinterest.

Primark, H&M etc have loads of cheap tshirts (long and short sleeved) and vests in winter colours and that has helped me experiment more as with investment pieces I tend to play it safe.

KosherBacon · 28/08/2013 14:39

HotChoc- yes I was glad. I looked at my wardrobe before I left and it was 85% black and then random bits and pieces! I still do need to do a big clear out though. I have to admit that I have dresses I haven't worn in 5-10 years and am never going to wear again.

Kezztrel · 28/08/2013 14:50

I'm gradually building up a Pinterest board of winter-suitable make up if it helps anyone. Am really getting into very strong, dark lip colours atm!
