.....but we are still Stylish (if not Beautiful).

Nah, I still don't get Dizzee and freely admit that I hate all rap with a passion. Sorry, but it's a pile of crap Grin Although I agree that Macca is probably worse. We turned off the TV as soon as he played his first dubious chords. Why do we keep having him inflicted on us? He's had his time, he should now just have the good grace to feck off into retirement far, far away. Please.

I did go back and watch the final bit of the opening ceremony with the torch et al and that was pretty damn good. Dd has been glued to the screen for the swimming, gymnastics and basketball this evening - having said that she doesn't ever like watching sport, oh no.

We did the beach again today and The Bikini had its first public outing. As far as I know, no one pointed at me and laughed. Or burst out crying and ran away. Crepeys, I think I got away with it.

I do not understand very expensive bags either. I like mine to be washable and showerproof Grin

CV - a large number of my extended family were also on Boxhill today, camped out somewhere along the Zigzag. (Is it actually called that or is that just my family's name for that bit of the hill, I wonder?)

Cremolavelodrome · 28/07/2012 23:59

Hi you lot- am off to bed but just saying hello!
Packing for my hols so will be needing advice on capsule wardrobing in the morning.
Smile

Blackduck · 29/07/2012 07:46

Macca - oh yes, missed that bit, luckily, but a friend was scornful 'he can't even sing'! Why oh why
Thought torch, lighting and thing itself was fab!
Cycling was tres disappointing, but good old' vino (the cyclist, not the stuff that comes in bottles crepeys!) well deserved the win.
MrsS hope stocks are replenished! I have been a tad worried as a friend asked if I have missed dp (back on Monday, nearly arrested) and I had to honestly say 'no' ....
Stropps glad The Bikini is not languishing in a cupboard!

beachyvolleyballhead · 29/07/2012 08:56

Well Cremola, I got back from my very hot hols yesterday, and my packing was absolutely rubbish, so I can give you lots of 'Don't's'..... It was our first hotel holiday in four years, after merrily camping up to now, and I failed utterly on the hotness and the eveningness of it all, after all, camping evenings equate to a fleece and a pair of socks to stop the midges!

So, I would have taken more strappy tops for the evening, I would have taken a maxi dress or eight, I would have taken a bigger bag for the evening, as I seemed to have everybody's things squashed into a tiny shoulder bag. I wouldn't have taken any heels as the distances you had to shlep around this hotel were ridiculous. I would have had more than one 'throw over your cossie to get to the bar' dress, as that all got a bit samey....

My dd would have taken more bikinis as her's disintegrated with all the chemicals in the pool.....

So more stuff needed if I am ever to venture hotel side again, or revert to camping, where each of us take a Tesco Bag for Life full and we cube pack them in the car Grin

Also, I don't get expensive handbags.... when I'm feeling a little crap, I read the ' I only have £1000 to spend, should it be a Mulberry Ripple or a Blah Snakes Bottom?' threads. It cheers me up no end......

bigTillyMint · 29/07/2012 10:35

BD what has your DP been up to???

beachy, we are doing our first non-camping summer hol in 10 years and are going to Sharm where forecast is for highs of 43 and lows of 38 when we go next week Shock So NO fleeciesGrin I am taking DD and bff shopping tomorrow, so I will be looking for another swimming cozzie (don't think I'm as brave as you Stropps!) and maybe a couple of smarter strappy tops, Another cover-up and maybe a smart beach bag....

Blackduck · 29/07/2012 10:44

BTM he's at an academic conference in Chile, he decided to do a street intervention thing (bear in mind Chile was a dictatorship and any street gathering was/is quickly cracked down on), police arrived, they were surrounded by police, dogs, horses for 15 minutes whilst frantic calls to person with the approved paperwork appeared....

bigTillyMint · 29/07/2012 10:48

Street intervention??? Was he demonstrating or intervening in an assault or???

Blackduck · 29/07/2012 10:53

:) theatre..... He was slowing things down (don't ask me, I only live with him...)

bigTillyMint · 29/07/2012 11:03

[thicko emoticon] - still haven't got a clue....

TheReturnOfStropperella · 29/07/2012 11:06

Yes, BD, what has your DP been doing?

Gosh, you hardy souls - all venturing off to these v. hot places. Sounds more like an endurance test to me than a holiday Grin , but then I don't like temps above about 30 much. Hope you are packing plenty of factor 50, BTM Grin . We have found the Sunsense Factor 50 to be absolutely brilliant and to stay on well in the water too - unlike many other brands that I have tried over the years. I am also still loving their tinted factor 50 for the face.

I just went and had a look at a thread about frumps. It made me a bit sad, as it seemed full of pompous fashion diktats and a lack of awareness that the cut of a person's trousers is not necessarily the be-all and end-all in life. It is at times like these that I remember that I am, in fact, an S&B fraud - even though this is the only area of MN where I have ever posted extensively.

However, I confess that it is probably not the frump critics that are really getting me down. I am feeling really very sad and anxious about dh's upcoming op in 10 days. I am doing my best to keep up a positive front for everybody (seems to be working well), but actually I'm not sleeping. It's the bastard uncertainty. I have now started a random period that wasn't supposed to turn up for another week and that's the first time that has ever happened to me.

TheReturnOfStropperella · 29/07/2012 11:07

ooops, x-post. Don't mind me, I'm just having a whingeathon and clearly need to get off my arse and go and do something positive to lift the mood.

Blackduck · 29/07/2012 11:09

Good old wiki... this sort of stuff
He was in a public square during rush hour, idea was to engage with passersby and get them to 'slow down'. Bonkers I know :)

Blackduck · 29/07/2012 11:11

Oh Stropps fingers firmly crossed for DH.
Agree re being S&B fraud.....I am so unstylish I have made it an art form :)

bigTillyMint · 29/07/2012 11:36

Ahhh

Stropps, it's not surprising that you are worried, etc - compared to what you are going through, S&B woes are hardly worth thinking about.

Now just how do I get DD to a) tidy her room and b0 go through her clothes with me so we can chuck some old stuff out. She is still in bed, despite a decorator stripping the walls in our room next door!

Cremolavelodrome · 29/07/2012 12:30

Have woken up with a big facial rash this morning - burning hot and vile. So much for style and beautyAngry am dreading that it is another bout if shingles.
Good grief I need this holiday. Dd is bringing a friend this year so am hoping they will wander off and let dh and me relax a bit( they are17)
So clothing dilemma: I ALWAYS pack too much. We are going for 10 days and the weather looks to be a balmy 25• with sun and fluffy clouds( have checked webcamGrin)
So:
1x 3/4 linen trousers blue
1 x stripy nautical cotton trousers
1 x red skinny capris

1x chambray maxi dress
1x linen knee length dress

Tops x 5( blue white cream red flowery )
Vests x 2 ( pale blue + white)
Cardigan x 1 navy

Light navy waterproof coat
2x industrially sucky in swimsuits (navy + blue spot)
White kaftan
Flipflops / Mary Jane/ smart clog sandals
Pair summer jimjams

1 x Pair jeans for travelling
1 long sleeved wrap top & hoody for boat
(18 hour journey)
Converse low tops ( red)

How am I doing? What can I ditch?
Gone for very tight colour group do I can much and match.Smile

motherinferior · 29/07/2012 13:03

Cremola - I'd just stick with that lot and stop worrying. Life is short. Doesn't matter if you've over-packed Grin

Stropps, it's no wonder you're not sleeping. You have a LOT on your plate.

And that 'mini' bag is strictly for weekends - I take a capacious leather satchel with me to work!

motherinferior · 29/07/2012 13:06

Am frugally wondering whether to get this instead...

CointreauVersial · 29/07/2012 17:22

MI - I prefer the metallic colour of the first one you linked to (will go with more things).

Cremola - your holiday wardrobe sounds very coordinated - get you with your colour groups! I hope it isn't stressing about holiday preparation that has brought you out in shingles (though I admit I find it very stressful myself, especially as I have to do the thinking/planning for five people). I would agree with Beachy it is handy to have something a bit dressy (even just a nice top to wear with one of your pairs of trousers) for a dinner out.

Strops - yes, it is called Zig Zag Road; it even has one of those road-name signs at the bottom. It used to be littered with speed bumps and a bit treacherous, but thanks to the games it is now as smooth as a baby's bottom. Perfect for us, as it is a handy alternative route from home to Dorking (job and school) if something happens on the main road down the other side of Box Hill.

OP posts:
Cremolavelodrome · 29/07/2012 17:55

Agree MI I like the metallic one.

Ok packing done- well decisions made
Just need to get dh a few decent tshirts
And were off.

Grin
bigTillyMint · 29/07/2012 18:15

Yes I agree, silvery one is best - sod the cost Grin

Cremola, I am Envy - I have never managed a capsule/coordinated wardrobe and holiday packing leads me to some interesting combo's!

CointreauVersial · 29/07/2012 18:21

YY - I always come home from holidays with loads of unworn stuff. Why? Because I take things that don't actually go with anything else. Durr.

OP posts:
Cremolavelodrome · 29/07/2012 18:55

I just buy everything in blue or navy. Saves any bother BUT is criminally boring. But I am a bit of a scarf / drapey item fanGrin
So inject colour that way .
BTW have you seen these items?
www.binabrianca.com/

I must say I'm tempted by them but unsure that it wouldn't just be an annoying faff? Anybody got anything like it.Smile

bigTillyMint · 29/07/2012 19:07

Ooh, err! Looks like one of those inventions off the Apprentice! What are they made of?

motherinferior · 29/07/2012 19:09

Charity shopping means I can't stick to a colour way Grin

Cremolavelodrome · 29/07/2012 20:09

Very fine jersey like those waterfall cardigans I think. The video is q good as it tells you all the ways you can do it up.
Am liking the tunic shape and the poncho.
Ultimate capsule wardrobe right there. All you need is leggings and a vest to go underneathGrin
I should add I am not totally convinced but I tend to wear a drapey cardigan nearly all the time.
I also found an online tutorial with instructions on how to make it .
