Do you need some opinions ruby? Linkies?

RadioRentalMum · 18/07/2012 13:12

Thank you CointreauVersial, I'm always on the look out for a bargain and will happily share when I find one! Grin

Goodness you are terribly posh laydeez. What i find difficult is when things aren't nice clear black on white print, especially white print on a coloured background. My dh can't read subtitles on the telly, so we act a a literacy team.

Us? Posh? Naahhh.

Anyway, I do look quite smart today; I'm wearing my new M&S Sale dress today, which I linked to earlier. It is very flattering, but I can't decide if it's a bit too dressy for work.

But no need for half-moon spectacles here, as long as I'm wearing my trusty contacts.

Not much planned for this week, apart from watching the Olympic torch, which runs right past our office on Friday afternoon. Everyone is moaning and stressing about how they are going to get home and not be caught up in the road closures, whereas I (who don't work Fridays) am trying to formulate a plan to get into town to see it.

Nice dress, Rubes, but I bet it is very unforgiving with lumps and bumps. Would have to be worn with no suitable underwear, methinks.

Aha - found you! And hello tp stleger, endinsmiles and radiorental (LOVE the name RR - you must be crepey if you remember Radio Rentals - I rented my first VCR from them...)

Just a quick catch up from last thread - for the newbies, CV had posted that her ds was drenching himself in Lynx which really made me ROFL, bless his fragrant cotton socks. I'm hoping ds1 starts to move in that direction soon as it is all starting, body-wise, for him. I'm a bit Sad about some of it (my baaaaby and so on), although his teeny proto-pecs do make me smile. He is starting to get a few spots on his nose and forehead as well, so I'm trying to think how best to approach that. Dh and I were both lucky on the teen spot front, but my sister had awful, awful acne, requiring antibiotics etc, so I'm aware these things may lurk in the family gene pool. I did have a Shock conversation with him about foreskins last week following a PSHE lesson about puberty which left me emotionally drained and also needing to look a number of things up on the internet.

On an S&B front, I did manage a quick look in the sales and bought a couple of things from Anthropologie - they had some good proper sale prices, 60/70% off their usual silly prices. I bought this which looks v nice with some dark blue cutoff jeans I got in White Stuff and I also got a bright orange quite full cotton skirt, knee length, that I haven't worn yet. Need some sun and some fake tan for that one!

Blackduck - do you have a date for your move yet? Apologies if I have missed it further up the thread. It has been a bit of an adjustment for us and it will take a while to get used to the new area and not being near a tube any more but it's definitely the right things to have done long term even though the short term will be a hassle for now. On the plus side, dh is getting very slim due to the extra 20 mins cycling uphill to get home Grin.

wilbur · 18/07/2012 13:32

Hmmm - like that Great Plains dress a lot Ruby and price is great! Would be good for work. Am going to ponder maybe the taupy colour one. I tried on various summerish frocks when I had my brief sale outing, but I had a lot of issues with sizing. I think my breasts have been attached to my body in the wrong place and there was a lot of either too high waists, or gaping v-necks. It was very depressing.

stleger · 18/07/2012 13:41

I have three lovely children - ds is 20 and I hope the spots are gone; dd1 is nearly 19and gets exam results next month after a stressful year for the household; and a dd2 who is 15 and also had exams but no stress. I have ddog who looks like a kangaroo crossed with a teddy. We go for long walks together, and pretend it is exercise.

Ruby - would you say the sizing is generous or skimpy? Dress wise I am small on top but pear-shape, so have to be careful round the hips and bum, but if it flares nicely then I could do a 12, if it's a bit skimpy, I should go for a 14.

stleger - my kids are 11, 9 and almost 7, so we're just gearing up for teenage life to start. We've recently moved house to a place nearer to ds1's new secondary school, and now have more space outside for active ds2 and more doors inside to slam for dd. Our old house was quite open plan and slamming the door to the loo just didn't do it for her. Grin Actually, she's not really a door slamming type, yet, but she does have quite the scorched earth policy during her infrequent tempers, so I'm anticipating adolescent fireworks.

srleger, my DD is almost 13 and DS is 11 (and a half!) - both will be at secondary in SeptemberShock

Wilbur, hope she doesn't go the ay of my DD with whiny/screechy tone of voice most of the time when grumpy/angry/tiredAngry

It's pre-party-city here now - I'm finding it hard to get any work doneGrin

Blackduck · 18/07/2012 15:17

Wilbur 20th August (everything croseed)

StL - I have one ds (aged 9), a shaggy/curly orange coloured hound and am hoping to move soon (this has been going on for the longest time.....) to live on a hill.....

Ds already does a great line in stropps (oh and Where is Stropps?!) so I really am not looking forward to the teens....

TheReturnOfStropperella · 18/07/2012 17:19

Reporting for duty on new thread! Grin
I have just spent a blardy cold, damp day on the beach with ds's class. Ds was very pleased as I do not generally go on school trips. This is because a) I usually need to be working and b) I don't like small children en masse very much.
My un-small dd has now finished school for the summer, but is grounded UFN as she has lost her front door key. AGAIN. She will either magically find it or pay for a new lock for the front door.

Oh Ruby, those dresses - they are lovely but they have no sleeves! After 9 months of punishing circuits classes, I am now able to do 21 (full) press-ups in 30 seconds and have serious biceps and firm triceps BUT dingly-dangly old lady wibbly bits above my elbows which are never going to go away. Despite my best efforts, my arms are Officially Old. I must never look at sleeveless things ever again.

TheReturnOfStropperella · 18/07/2012 17:24

Ha, CV, I see (have unwisely opened eyes again) that your purchases are also a bit short on sleeves. Am I the only Crepey with crepey old lady arms? Does anyone know where I can get invisible arm corsets?

sidsmissis · 18/07/2012 17:56

Stropps I am a crepey with old lady arms. As all clothing seems to be sleeveless these days I have decided to embrace my crepey dingly dangly wibbly bits. My new attitude is if you don't like them don't look.
'Tis liberating I tell ya and far better than spending half of ones life searching for arm coverer uperers and the other half sweating like a sweating thing wearing said coverer uperers whilst glowing

I love the crepey threads, but don't post because I live a relatively dull life in the sticks. The height of retail opportunity here is the Co-op.

Both DD are away at uni and so these days I don't have to pass sartorial muster, spend my days in wellies and old clothes most of the time.

I have just purchased my first reading glasses. According to DH it is the start of the slippery slope. I hope not because I just don't have the kind of face for glasses.

CointreauVersial · 18/07/2012 18:53

Sidsmissis - lurk no longer! Do Co-Op do clothes? Herbs, who will no doubt be along soon, is a Sainsbury's clothing afficionado, and always seems to find lovely stuff that cost about 50p.

Nooo, Strops, my purchases all sleeved, with the exception of the Boden dress, which coincidentally arrived today and is absolutely gorgeous, but has highlighted a shortcoming in my shoe collection.
