.....but we are still Stylish (if not Beautiful).

OP posts:
LapsedPacifist · 24/07/2012 22:33

Feck smooth tanned young mums - I hang out with 20-somethings these days - scruffy grubby fellow students and Beautiful-But-Skint Young Meejah Professionals (mostly DCs of old friends Hmm)

Its FAB - no way on God's Little Green Earth do I ever feel judged by or obliged to compete with anyone remotely near my own age! Grin

They all flatter me because I stand them rounds in the pub compare me favourably with their parents and say they can't believe how ancient I am because I swear a lot and wear cooler DMs than they can afford

Blackduck · 25/07/2012 06:49

Stropps stop hogging the Chums catalogue, I need it...
After a number of calls to arrange to have meter put back in, mum phones to say neighbour said they put it back at 10 yesterday morning so all that 'you have to be there' was a load of rubbish! Curry last night, and too much wine (well not enough water :) )
MrsS we haven't met (need to remedy that), but I am sure you are more than up to the task, you are the international woman of mystery after all :)

bigTillyMint · 25/07/2012 11:42

Result! We seem to be unexpectedly child-free for the day - DD got invited to go to the Lido with her BF, and then DS got invited to join them Smile

Now.... what shall DH and I do....

CointreauVersial · 25/07/2012 13:35

Just checked into one of my fave Style Blogs for a lunchtime read. I can only aspire to be as stylish (and tall and slim) as she is.

But today she is raving about the "absolutely stunning number" she just found in the Sales. It's the Limited Collection top that yours truly bought a couple of weeks ago! He he. You heard it here first.

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 25/07/2012 13:46

CV, top marks! Tho I don't like your blog-friend - she is way to thin Envy

Have forced DH to do some cleaning and then we are going for a cycle ride and a child-free drink.

motherinferior · 25/07/2012 18:56

I am very very very grumpy tired. It is the first day of my period. Editor does not like (and tbh I can see why not) my boring ideas for the Jan/Feb ishooo. I ought to do some writing tonight but think I may just collapse. Possibly with a glass of wine....

But, but, I am greatly enjoying Mr Inferior's Sabbatical. He has booked the Inferiorettes an array of necessary optician/dental appointments and is cooking tea Grin. I could get into this having a SAHD lark, apart from the fact that these days he earns double a lot more than I do, having fortuitously landed a nicely paid job just as my freelance earnings went into recession-led freefall.

LapsedPacifist, I used to be the CND press officer Grin

bigTillyMint · 25/07/2012 19:12

MI I am on first day too, but I am not any more grumpy than usual This may be due to either the HRT or the fact that I am on holiday and the DC have been out all daySmile

It must be that wonderful time of the year as my cuz was out doing a shoot for Christmas cards at Tower Bridge today apparently Hmm

MrsSchadenfreude · 25/07/2012 19:18

Sadly, my experience of having a house bitch SAHD were not the same as yours, MI. I still had to cook, and occasionally dash to collect the DDs from the school bus, from the other end of town, as he forgot... (as you know).

bigTillyMint · 26/07/2012 11:36

DD is finally a teenager Smile

And I am dreading the concert this afternoon - 80,000 in Hyde Park in 30degrees. No food or drink allowed in so we can't even take in frozen water to cool ourselves down.

CointreauVersial · 26/07/2012 12:51

Whoah, spooky, I started my period yesterday too. Are we synchronising through the ether? Grin

BTM - Happy Birthday to your DD. Best get over to the Teen Threads. I have until November to swot up.

Hyde Park in 30 degrees - ugh. Maybe the bottles of flying wee will cool you down - I hear that's a regular feature of Hype Park concerts. Shock

OP posts:
TheReturnOfStropperella · 26/07/2012 14:19

Happy birthday to you dd, BTM. Now the fun can officially start Grin

I hope CV's prediction of flying bottles of wee at the concert is proven incorrect..

Crepsters, I am sure you will be interested to know I had an epiphany on the beach yesterday afternoon Grin . I was standing thigh-deep in the sea doing my "pulling everyone about on the bodyboard" duties (ds always manages to find a school friend or two wherever we go) and watching dd looking impossibly glam in her new and über-pricey swimwear from FatFace, whilst looking baggily unglam in my ancient tankini. And then I looked at the abundance of unloveliness on display elsewhere on the beach and realised that I don't look that bad, actually, for 47. Sure, there are flaws, but It Could Be Worse. And eventually it will be.

So I went to the surf shop (like you do around here) and purchased a bikini. One of those "4 hankerchiefs and some string" jobs. Stuff yr hold-it-all-in ruched one pieces Grin. I have not sweated my way through 9 months of punishing circuits classes for nothing.

(my other cozzie for actual swimming is a channel swimmer black one with legs. It makes me look like a black pudding. No wonder going to the pool depresses me).

bigTillyMint · 26/07/2012 14:26

CV Shock!

Stropps double Shock! Good on yer for realising that you look great and going for an itsy-bitsy-teeny-weeny-bikini Smile

DH and I are trying to postpone going to the concert. Apparently the doors opened at 2...

Blackduck · 26/07/2012 15:14

Sropps picture, on profile, now!!

CointreauVersial · 26/07/2012 17:05

Good for you, Strops!

They do say that if you look as if you are trying to hide something (i.e. lots of ruching, maximum cover) you can end up looking fatter as a result.

OP posts:
Cremolafoam · 26/07/2012 17:14

Happy birthday BTM minor!
Have a jolly daySmile

Am completely spooked by group menstruation. But I also have Aunt Flo avisiting.

Impressed by this bikini wearing business. I have one of those built by welders sucky in swimsuits those is supposed to bolt it all down.Grin fortunately my new found decrepitude means I am virtually invisible to everyone in a beige kind of way so I care not.

Blackduck · 26/07/2012 21:21

If not pic of you in it, I at least want pic of it.... :)

TheReturnOfStropperella · 26/07/2012 22:00

Well, BD, just for you, I have created a "profile" page and stuck a suitably anonymised photo on it. You can't really see much in the way of detail, but you can see its teeny-weeny-ness. I was hogging the paddling pool and got a severe water-bombing minutes after that was taken this afternoon.

TheReturnOfStropperella · 26/07/2012 22:02

And no, that photo will not be staying up long. Anonymised or not Grin

wilbur · 26/07/2012 22:34

Oh poo - I just excitedly went to Stropps' photos and there's a picture of a dog playing rugby, but no bikini-clad babe. Cute dog though Grin.

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/07/2012 22:37

Yes, I want my money back, there's only a daft dog there.

Aunt Flo has just left Paris, so I am a bit out of synch with the rest of you.

I am unpleasantly busy at work - I thought it was supposed to quieten down by now. AB back on Monday, and have had the message, rather ominously, that he has "ideas for projects over the summer." I have plenty to do, thank you.

bigTillyMint · 26/07/2012 22:46

Oh double poo - I just did the same wilbur. I looked carefully, but the dog is definitely not modelling the bikini Sad

Just home from the Hyde Park concert which was really good (apart from us missing Rizzle Kicks because we arrived late - was WW3 with DC's), particualrly Eliza Doolittle and The Wanted, but DS wasn't impressed with Dizzee Rascal so I brought him home. DH is still there with DD and BF!

MrsS, I thought things had been a little quiet on the AB front - he's obviously making up for it Angry

TheReturnOfStropperella · 26/07/2012 23:18

GrinGrin at Crepeys queuing to look at a rather duff photo of a middle-aged laydee in a 2-piece. It's to prove I actually wore it Grin . And I will wear it again on the beach. Soon. No, I really will.

I have now added wilbur, MrsS and BTM to my Mumsnet Mates list, which means you can view my secret photos. Oooo-er. It is Not a Flattering Photo. There is a lot of pallid-ness going on. But in my new, liberated incarnation, I wave 2 crepey fingers in the general direction of caring about all that stuff. So there. I hereby embrace the wibble!

bigTillyMint · 26/07/2012 23:20

I saw it, I saw it! And I can see your ribs Stropps, not a wibble in sight Envy!

CointreauVersial · 26/07/2012 23:20

Strops - am I not your MN friend??

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 26/07/2012 23:21

Stropps, you are going to be Mrs Popularity Grin
