Stone Roses gig - what do I wear!

Very excited about seeing the Stone Roses at Heaton Park this weekend, but having a total style crisis. So, here I am, nearly 40, 2 dcs, live in jeans and converse (not even skinnies) - and this is probably my last chance to relive my twenties!

Given the fact that it will probably pour with rain, please give me inspiration!

cocolepew · 26/06/2012 22:44

I saw them first time round. I wore velvet hotpants and doc martins Smile

They were absolutely dreadful. One of the worse gigs Ive ever been too.

Have fun! Grin

MintChocAddict · 26/06/2012 22:44

Vom central Wink

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 26/06/2012 22:46

Worse case all else fails, go to big supermarket for cheapo wellies and poncho. DH picked up disposal poncho for £2 at Asda (in men's section by coats hidden at the side on one of those accessory racks you always miss).

BikeRunSki · 26/06/2012 22:49

If sartorial problems stop you going i'll have your ticket, i'll even wear skinnies if I must. I was trying to get tickets when waters broke and contractions started and DD stopped me going to a gig for the second time before she was born. ( first time, I had tickets for Levellers and Wonderstuff but was in hospital with Hyperemisis ).

bronze · 26/06/2012 22:50

I'm a bit young to have seen them first time but I have seen Ian brown and he was utterly shite Grin

BikeRunSki · 26/06/2012 22:51

Ian Brown not beautiful !
Ian Brown solo - most dire gig I have ever been to.

NotMostPeople · 26/06/2012 22:54

I'm going too and will be wearing much the same as when I walk the dogs and it's not often I turn down a chance to get dressed up.

ThePathanKhansWitch · 26/06/2012 22:58

Arf Notmost Grin.

bronze · 26/06/2012 23:03

Shame I don't have a mn scarf

Theenormouscrocodile · 26/06/2012 23:09

Ian Brown IS beautiful. I'm so Envy. Hope you enjoy whatever the weather!!

UnnamedFemaleProtagonist · 27/06/2012 07:08

I have a MN scarf! Not sure I'll bother wearing it though. I think I might go with leggings and tights now following your advice. Wondering about getting a shewee? But too short notice to order online. We're walking home too, am i gonna freeze to death?

KenDoddsDadsDog · 27/06/2012 07:22

I'm going to Dublin cannot wait !!
They are not great live but I'm going to fully pretend I'm 17 again ......

BananaGio · 27/06/2012 08:06

Ian Brown, totally beautiful as was and still got it as now. Get yourself some wellies and a Reni hat and enjoy. Am so jealous. Am in baking hot sunshine where I live and would swop in a shot for an evening with the Roses in Manchester in the rain and the mud Envy.

bronze · 27/06/2012 08:40

I'm leaving my youngest for the first time ever (overnight) for it so am finding it as hard to be as excited as dh is

handbagCrab · 27/06/2012 08:57

:) I went to Oasis at heaton park. The weather wasn't bad but even so, it was a total minging mud bath round the toilets.

So for stone roses I have bought some luminous pink wellies from Asda! I need a waterproof though so may hot foot it to decathlon later.

I'm planning wellies with welly socks, black leggings (one or two pairs depending on weather), vest (depedning on weather), dress, cardigan, coat, waterproof. I'll also take a scarf. I will take loads of tissue and antibacterial hand gel. The toilets at oasis weren't bad inside but no loo roll or anything quite quickly.

If its anything like oasis I will drink enough to not feel the cold...

Btw if you're going back towards town be warned it took an age for people at oasis. I know people ended walking back into Manchester as the queues for buses/ trams were mad. So give yourself a bit in reserve to get back to the centre if you're that way inclined.

UnnamedFemaleProtagonist · 27/06/2012 09:22

I'm walking back the other way (live in Whitefield). If anyone wants to park near ours and walk down/back with us they would be more than welcome.

I think after following the advice here, I will go with leggings, tights, vest, tea dress, cardi and coat.

So tissues and handwipe for the loos? Any other tips?

NotMostPeople · 27/06/2012 09:27

handbag - I was at the same Oasis gig and it was a total mudfest and yet it barely rained. Tomorrow night is going to be horrendous (music aside).

handbagCrab · 27/06/2012 09:54

unnamed :) I'm from your neck of the woods, do say hello if you see me! I'll be the drunk ginger bird in the luminous pink wellies!

notmost I don't remember it being too bad, apart from round the toilets. I was very drunk though and it was dark so I probably didn't notice!

I've seen a line up with times on twitter (dunno if it's accurate) and things seem to kick off quite early! Was hoping to see the vaccines, but if they're truly on at half five I'll be struggling I think.

bronze · 27/06/2012 09:56

We're going Saturday (annoyingly the worst of the supports)
You?

handbagCrab · 27/06/2012 10:16

We're going Friday! Which I'm pleased about because it's primal scream for a proper early 90s indiefest. It's accident rather than design though, as it's just someone I know has spare tickets so only knew I was going yesterday. I'm excited :)

UnnamedFemaleProtagonist · 27/06/2012 10:22

Handbag, I'm going Saturday. I'll look out for you bronze! Handbag, have you ever been to any of the Manchester meetups? There are a few of us round here.

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 27/06/2012 12:09

handbag we got a leaflet through the door from the promoters saying the first act won't be on before 4.45. I don't know any other timings, but guess you could work back from there.

handbagCrab · 27/06/2012 13:43

Cheers charlotte I think the timings I've seen are pretty plausible then.

unnamed I haven't been to any meetups no. Where/ when are they?

If anyone's looking for a waterproof I got a parka in a pocket from primark this morning. It was £9, looks alright and folds down to nowt according to the packaging. I got a m and I'm a fat 16 ATM so I'm pleased :)

TequilaMockinBird · 27/06/2012 13:44

Which day are you going OP? DH and I are going on Saturday and I'm thinking it'll be a mud bath Grin

I'm wearing leggings, Wellies, waterproof jacket and probably a poncho!
