Stone Roses gig - what do I wear!

Very excited about seeing the Stone Roses at Heaton Park this weekend, but having a total style crisis. So, here I am, nearly 40, 2 dcs, live in jeans and converse (not even skinnies) - and this is probably my last chance to relive my twenties!

Given the fact that it will probably pour with rain, please give me inspiration!

Yy, more info please.

Leaving here in a couple of hours to drive down Grin

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 30/06/2012 09:23

i wasn't there, but was listening as our house is very close.
i probably shouldn't mention it but there were a lot of spaces on my street, and we're only one street back from the park entrance. traffic was really hairy on the motorway but not so bad locally, especially from the north side, so maybe think about using a different junction and travelling in through town. i don't know about getting off site though.

They were on from just after 9, and did all the songs you'd expect. Really enjoyed Mersey Paradise Grin. There were fab fireworks at the end. Ian Brown clearly hasn't spend the intervening years having singing lessons though Wink

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 30/06/2012 09:39

Ian Brown was out of tune??? Shock

Many years ago, I heard dying cat noises coming out of a tent at Glasto. It was later revealed to be Mr Brown.

I love the Stone Roses. I didn't get ticket because of Mr Brown's singing. I'm sure everyone's going to have fun if they can avoid the piss and beer throwing twats but I just didn't want to ruin how I felt about the roses as it would just annoy the crap out of me.

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 30/06/2012 09:44

i assume mucho booze (or other) was involved, as he was getting worse as the night progressed. made of stone was a particular ishooo. shame really as the rest of the band were amazing, especially given that they're hardly speaking.

UnnamedFemaleProtagonist · 30/06/2012 10:11

It sounded fine from my house! Roll on tonight!

handbagCrab · 30/06/2012 11:08

Here is a set list

Everyone was singing along so couldnt hear if Ian Brown was in tune or not. They sounded great. Lots of guitar noodling to pad it out a bit. The sound system wasn't fantastic as it was a bit out of sync, when we moved over to the left of the stage as you look at it, it was better.

They didn't really check my bag so you could smuggle some booze in. Honestly I've never been anywhere like the queues for the bars and the crush to get out. I'm surprised no one was injured.

Toilets weren't bad, my friend had a nice halluomi panini, nice crowd. If you're going enjoy!

MorrisZapp · 30/06/2012 11:20

Welly wearers called it wrong last night! I wore croc pumps and was fine - only a few wee spits of rain, and no mud where we were. Mind you, the white hoodie was a bad plan. Got red wine hurled down the back of it.

The bar queues were insane, we just gave up. Also gave up on the shuttle bus, but managed to get cab after about the first mile walk home. Loads of cabbies cashing in!

I thought Ian Brown was amazing, looked great, took it seriously and showed respect. He's not Mariah Carey on the note-hitting front, but who cares, the audience sang it all anyway.

I bought the Brazilian style 2012 tshirt, that's one for the grandchildren!

Train home to Edinburgh is a cattle truck. Poor organisation from just about everybody involved, despite huge hype and anticipation in Manchester. But what did we expect I suppose!

We're too old :)

Glad we went though.

MorrisZapp · 30/06/2012 11:26

Aye, handbag, I agree. I was very good and followed the rules but in all honesty a nice gel like me was only going to get a light search.

Wish I'd smuggled some booze in - life is too short for two hour bar queues.

MorrisZapp · 30/06/2012 11:29

Also, do not be tempted to wear baggy or bootcut jeans. You can't roll them up!

I saw quite a few sorry looking hems. Don't be that sorry hem woman.

bronze · 30/06/2012 11:44

I'm ok I look like frumpy mum in black jeggings and a baggy cardy

I don't really drink so will do without booze if it's easier

What's the weather like there at the mo?

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 30/06/2012 11:56

right now the sun is out, and it's warm, but there are some mean looking clouds on the horizon.
top tip re smuggling booze in - it's quite easy to fit the bladder of a wine box down your front. looks like the 2nd trimester and no-one will touch you.

UnnamedFemaleProtagonist · 30/06/2012 12:04

I'm taking in a vodka pouch because the soft drink bar was dead apparently.

I am wearing Wellies, and wearing them with my shorts, black vest and black tights. Dunno which coat yet.

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 30/06/2012 12:10

Beautiful in South Manchester.
Forecast was for rain ALL day here.
Its not.

MorrisZapp · 30/06/2012 12:16

Weather has defied the forecast for three days now!

It has to rain at some point, but maybe god just loves the Roses.

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 30/06/2012 12:19

it is raining here now (we're across the road from the park)
hope it dries up for you

if the weather holds out I'm going down with a mate tonight - there were lots of tickets being touted yesterday.

MorrisZapp · 30/06/2012 12:37

Anybody know how much the touts were charging?

HipHopGorilla · 30/06/2012 12:39

I took a bag and they didn't search it properly, they just asked me to open it and looked in the top. They didn't do body searches either. You could defo sneak in a hip flask I reckon Wink Saw some people drinking straight from the tap of wine box foil inner Grin

The queue for the bars were ridiculous, one friend was waiting for over an hour, another got crushed and had to be rescued by her fella. The smart people sneaked their own in or got there early and bought loads of bottles from the bar (they had beer and wine in plastic bottles).

Queues for loos were long but moved fairly quickly, loos weren't too bad but it was the first night they will prob get worse. Take yer own bog roll / tissues / hand santister. They had outdoor sinks to wash your hands, but blokes were using them as urinals Hmm

It weren't muddy at all really. And really warm in the crowd.

I got the park and ride and it was ok. I bit hellish getting out the park, but once we were out we got straight onto a bus and got back home (Lpool) by 1ish.

The Roses were amazing, agree the sound wasn't great and I couldn't understand a word Ian B was saying, had to get Manc friend to translate Grin but the crowd drowned his singing out and there was an fantastic atmosphere with everyone dancing and singing along.

TequilaMockinBird · 30/06/2012 13:04

I'm half way there and have jeans on - why can't I turn them up? Confused

Have also left my coat at home Angry so will have to find a shop on the way!

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 30/06/2012 13:43

stop at big sainsburys on middleton road by jct 19 - there's plenty of pac-a-parka type things there.

bronze · 30/06/2012 14:03

I'm now trying to work out whether to wear my kick ass riding boot style boots or my wellies this is what my life has come to, I don't get out ever much

UnnamedFemaleProtagonist · 30/06/2012 14:43

Bronze- I'm pondering hair up or hair down. Too hungover to decide.

bronze · 30/06/2012 14:50

I have already had that debate too, went for the knee highs. Am wearing striped top with orange/blue on it. Chances of any of you seeing me are next to nothing but if you think you have shout pombears or something

UnnamedFemaleProtagonist · 30/06/2012 14:52

Ha, will do. I'm going for hair down and bobble on wrist. I'm wearing nothing overly striking. Maybe I should stick a packet of pombears to my head.
