The rules are:

Eat healthily but this isn't a diet, just eat well
Drink less booze. I'm going to go for 6 weeks of NO booze but you can join and just drink in moderation
Do some exercise at least 15 minutes/day, I will be doing as many brisk walks as possible, I don't really like any other exercise
Take your make up off every night
Use sunscreen every day
Get more sleep. I am going to try to be in bed by 10pm at the latest every night

That's it. Who's in?

Oooooh late starter I know but back at work in 4 weeks after mat leave and still cannot fit into any of work clothes so can I do the crash course??

  1. Cold turkey down to one caffeinated drink/day (from about 30 cups of Yorkshire tea)
  2. Water water water-my SIL who is beautiful actress though with no money and no personal trainer swears by it (also swears by C de la M but cannot bring myself to go there)
  3. Walking 30 mins day-run or gym at w/e when dh around to babysit.
  4. Bed at 10 hmmm-ds still wakes for a feed at 10-11 (and sometimes 2 and then 4 ) so instead will vow to nap while he naps instead of MNetting
  5. Obviously loads of fruit veg fish etc and no wine Mon to Thurs-that's as far as i can go

Also recommend Dr Hauschka rejuvenating mask and Neals Yard white tea eye gel for take 5 years off in 15 minutes emergencies...
Ok off to do 4

I am feeling very pleased with myself as I had massive argument with xdh last night as he is being a sh*t all over again :( (why don't I ever learn?) and instead of heading for the fridge or the alcohol (usual habit) I put on a Rosemary Conley DVD and salsa danced myself into a happier, less stressed mood! Feeling terribly upset this mornign and having a days leave headed for Bath as soon as ds at school. Had my first small coffee (it was lovely Grin) but have managed a week without it. Really enjoyed my half hour in Metropolitan Cafe and didn't feel guilty having toast and marmalade (it is lush & organic... & thought I was restrained considering what I could have chosen). Told X this morning that I needed to speak to him about practicalities and he suggested we meet up for lunch but I finished buying lush things for my house (don't want to buy clothes until I've lost some weight) and headed home to make soup packed with veg and do some yoga (that is the plan :) ) Don't want my day ruined by seeing him! Feel determined to continue this, it makes me feel great about myself and whatever x thinks of me... his loss!

Batters, the sunscreen is thick but I do like it.
Have you used the superbalm? It is fabulous. My skin is definitely beginning to look better and at times I am beginning to think it is glowing (as in radiating rather than sweating (blush) )

dinosaur · 03/03/2006 13:07

Well, I've had five alcohol-free nights this week (good) but only walked into work once (bad) and bunked off yoga last night (v v bad).

WideWebWitch · 03/03/2006 13:11

Well done winnie, esp on not letting ex get to you. Hmm, I might have to buy some of that cream.

Welcome LadyG!

I have had lunch of large rocket salad with beetroot, red pepper, pine nuts, mackeral, capers and salad dressing (all organic) and have managed about 5 large glasses of water so far. No exercise still though, must sort it at weekend. (Sex counts, right?)

Hello everyone, may I join too? I will be 40 in May and really want to be fit(ter) and slim(mer) by then. Looking 10 years younger would be great too! Smile I have been on a fitness drive since the beginning of the year anyway, but this little mumsnet club will help with the motivation I'm sure!

So, what I've been doing so far: I have been eating pretty healthily since January, also gave up coffee and started jogging 3 times a week in January, gave up smoking last week, have drastically reduced my alcohol intake (just red wine anyway), and started attending exercise classes (power stretch yesterday, pilates today).
I don't wear make up very often but when I do always take it off.

Where I need to do better is: drinking more water, moisturising every day, put SPF everyday, I also need a haircut but can't afford it at the moment. My feet could do with some attention too.

Also despite eating healthily and exercising more I haven't really lost any weight so need to watch how much I eat as well, perhaps do "mild" WW as well?

Anyway, well done everyone, and good luck to you all. Smile

ButternutSquash · 03/03/2006 13:40

Oh yes, and going to bed early is a difficult one for me too, it's rarely before midnight. Blush
Might try going to bed at 11.00 to start with!

WideWebWitch · 03/03/2006 13:40

butternuts, giving up smoking is the best single thing you can do for your health and looks, well done and welcome.

Can I play too please? I'm yet another going-to-be-forty-this year'er and have gone off-track since Boxing Day! I will try and follow all the rules, although I've got a feeling the get more sleep is going to be difficult (especially with our newly-resident rat's (and it's not a pet!) scrabblings keeping me awake at the moment Shock.

I don't feel qualified to give (m)any tips but have absolutely found that body brushing and moisturising have improved my skin dramatically - it's been a revelation.

ButternutSquash · 03/03/2006 14:17

Oh oh I have a tip too! Splashing is very good for your skin, what you do is after you've cleansed your face you fill your sink with warm water and splash your face 30 times. Amazing results in a few days! And it's cheap! Grin

moondog · 03/03/2006 17:06

Suze,it was a homonym alert! (9:51 am Thurs.)
Happy Birthday for tomorrow! Anything nice planned?

Yoyo, glad you like the ReFinish stuff.
I am also mightily impressed by Avon Anew range (only originally bought to look supportive of one of my acquantances who flogs it) Brill moisturiser, night cream, serum and facial peel. Cheap as chips too. Refuse to spend loads of money on creams and potions.

Went to gym today, ran 5km,did all my weights and then later walked 3km to school and back.

Eaten..

Home made muesli, banana and natural yoghurt.

Spelt crispbreads with goats chees, avocadao and tomatoes

Roast chicken, quinoa and sauteed courgettes for dinner with a glass of red.

Tinker · 03/03/2006 18:46

2nd the Norwegian formula hand cream. So good have tried it on my face sometimes...

LadyG · 03/03/2006 18:48

feet maintenance tip-from Libby whatserface How not to be a perfect mother-give yrself a pedicure while bathing the kiddiwinks-soak feet in the bath, quick pumice, moisturise and paint toenails while sitting on the edge-my feet are the best bit of me!

soyabean · 03/03/2006 22:23

Well I am definitely drinking more water, probably have had 8 (averageish sized...) glasses today and yesterday. No snacks consumed at Book group and only 1/5 glsses of wine. V good compared to the usual...Today I shared a pudding with friend at lunchtime, not so good, but better than a whole one. 1.5 glasses wine again my brother is staying, I have to be sociable).
Walked lots, along South bank and around shops but at least 1 1/2 hours total I reckon.
Bed, hmm, not there yet but will be there by 11 I hope. Have agood weekend everyone

winnie · 04/03/2006 07:40

Made the soup and did an hour of yoga.

I am drinking hot water and lemon as I sit here :) I am feeling amazingly well, 'grounded' and reinvigorated :) (Whether I actually look any better or not you'd have to ask someone else... but I think I do.)

Plus, I have got on the scales and I've lost 6lbs this week! Hurrah Grin

ScummyMummy · 04/03/2006 07:48

6lbs winnie! That's excellent.:)
In contrast, I'm feeling sluggish this morning. Went to pizza express avec boys and partner and ate too much and drank wine. Not much water either. Did grease my feet though.

Blackduck · 04/03/2006 09:11

okay
Fell off the wagon with a resounding crash (should that be splash?) and drank half a bottle of cheap champange BUT didn't go onto the second bottle as I usually would have so feel semi guilty only.....(and have had a crap day workwise - subject of another thread - so felt i needed it...)
Food - Toast
Bran flakes for lunch (nothing in the house!)
Dover sole for dinner (but with a rather rich butter sauce Blush)
Not enough water.
Stessed to hell

Wow Winnie, that's fantastic! Blackduck, sorry you're having a crap time, sounds like you deserved the Champagne. Batters, glad you feel ok despite drinking and Scummy, at least you greased. We ate salmon and roasted veg and I found it VERY hard not to open the Champagne that's in the fridge and even when dh suggested it I said no because by then we'd eaten and it was 9pm and for me if I can get past supper and 8-8.30 then I can quite happily not drink. So we didn't open it, I'm very pleased with myself. We went to bed far too late, I'm really struggling with getting there before 11, 11.30 but the children didn't wake up until 7ish so I still feel ok.

OP posts:
moonshine · 04/03/2006 10:03

There's a lot of champagne swishing round on this thread - is that where I'm going wrong???

Well done Winnie - 6lbs is brilliant. And sympathies to you Blackduck - am going through a bad time myself atm and really need something good to happen.

Did my body brushing, am glugging the water and had porridge for breakfast. I am hoping to go out soon and power walk for an hour but am already looking forward to a drink tonight - is that really bad?

suzywong · 04/03/2006 10:07

Moondog, it's my turn to titter at you
That was ...it's going to be 39 tomorrow - 39 degrees celsius Grin

But I'm going to be 39 in September, how the F did that happen Sad

Caribbeanqueen · 04/03/2006 10:21

Also surprised at how many of you just happen to have bottles of champagne in the fridge - didn't realise this was a posh thread Wink.

Porridge every morning, but no water yesterday and no exercise. I glass of wine. But I bought the hand cream.

My aim for the weekend is to drink water.
