The rules are:

Eat healthily but this isn't a diet, just eat well
Drink less booze. I'm going to go for 6 weeks of NO booze but you can join and just drink in moderation
Do some exercise at least 15 minutes/day, I will be doing as many brisk walks as possible, I don't really like any other exercise
Take your make up off every night
Use sunscreen every day
Get more sleep. I am going to try to be in bed by 10pm at the latest every night

That's it. Who's in?

Well done everyone. At least the majority of us has stuck to most of the rules (alcohol seems to be the stumbling block).

Congratulations Winnie on the weight loss.

Blackduck - sorry things are difficult at the moment. Hope you have a stress-free weekend.

It is a beautiful day so am hoping to go out walking with the children this afternoon (amble might be a more appropriate word). About to hit more water then see what we have that is healthy for lunch (cupboards are bare so might be difficult).

moondog · 04/03/2006 12:04

lol Suzy!
Am tittering at self actually..should have said homophone I think..Blush

Was in the gym at 8:00 am (anything to escape the kids and leave dh in sole charge)
Much more fun with my iPod shuffle which dh spent hours sorting out for me last night.

God The Police were good...when did Sting start turning into a wanker exactly??
Was it circa 1986???

suzywong · 04/03/2006 12:23

1985 actually

Wanker

moondog · 04/03/2006 12:44

titter again

suzywong · 04/03/2006 12:54

I think the yodelling was his nadir of wankerage though

moondog · 04/03/2006 12:55

Oh,I missed that (thankfully).
Read an interview (ObserverI think-shame on 'em)a few weeks ago with his appallingly smug wife.
Dreadful mare.

suzywong · 04/03/2006 13:03

and one of their daughters is called Michael

back on topic, I have been exercising with weights, rejected a (proper) kebab for dinner but am now drinking wine.

how about you?

WideWebWitch · 04/03/2006 13:25

The Police were good. I had Outlandos D'amour (surely not? Was it called that?) AND Regatta De Blanc, I thought they were fab and I used to pretend to fancy the drummer one (Andy Sumner? And the other one, was he Stewart sometihng? Summers or is Summers Sting's real surname? Can't remember) just to be different to everyone who fancied Sting. Trudie Styler does look a bit horsey doesn't she?

I do like having Champagne in the fridge - I managed to keep a magnum of it from 30th November, when I was given it as a wedding present, until Valentine's day, just by not refrigerating it. So when it's cold it's tempting but when it's not I can manage.

I had a boiled egg and toast for breakfast, proscuitto, pine nuts and raisins as a snack and Tuscan bean soup and a roll for lunch. Still too much bread, it really is my downfall. I've been out with the children but it wasn't really exercise, although I was pushing dd on her bike with handle and I did wear sunscreen. We're having veg biryani tonight.

BTW, someone on here (hmb I think) posted re sunscreen, if you want to see the difference between skin that hasn't had much sun and that which has, look at the top of your arm, in between your wrist and elbow and THEN look underneath at the underside of your arm in the same area - what a difference hey? So, WEAR SUNSCREEN, even if it's not sunny (it is today here)

Thanks everyone - at least I didn't wake up feeling like I'd drunk too much on top of the work cr*p so every cloud has a silver lining Grin. And I did say 'cheap champange' and god was it!
Breakfast was toast and just had a roll (like you www one of my weaknesses is bread - could eat a good fresh loaf pretty much as it is...)

soyabean · 04/03/2006 14:42

I used to like POlice too, I can remember listening to them on my new Walkman (size of 1/2 a brick and I think cost £80 can that be right? In about 1981. That wd have been an absolute fortune and I was a student)Used to love Boomtown Rats too but Bob G just annoys me now.
Did someone say you dont wee so much once you have got used to drinking lots of water. I hope so...

I've been pretty well behaved Suzy for a while.
Even come to the conclusion (reluctantly) that wine makes me feel shit. Bummer eh??

Just finished William Leith's 'The Hungry Years. Confessions of a food addict'
Don't have food issues per se but an extremely intersting and thoughtful read on the nature and causes of compulsive behaviour (drugs, shagging, drink, food) without being remotely earnest and girly.
Your memories are spot on WWW. Lol at all the Police fans..so easy to see that we are women d'un certain age!

winnie · 05/03/2006 08:40

Batters, Grin at "creaming wildly" ... have an image of woman, arms flying, surrounded by almost empty pots of cream... desperately looking for more Grin
As for the crisps ... so what? Everything in moderation. Hope you had a good time with your friends.

I had a good day yesterday. Took ds out on his bike (he cycled, I walked) that was good. Continuing to drink vast quantities of water (although it does seem harder at the weekend somehow).

Kept to one good cup of coffee & managed to stay away from alcohol (although I was desperate for a drink after another run in with xh). I am like you WWW if I can get past 8.30-9 without a drink I suddenly don't need one. Saw a snippet of a programme in the week about drinking alcohol with an 'expert' saying very often the effects of alcohol consumption are initially psychological. How can a couple of sips of wine relax and calm one so instantly? So, with this in mind I poured myself some elderflower cordial and put it in a wine glass and I hate to say it but I bizarrely stopped wanting to open a bottle! It's not that I never want to drink alcohol again. I just want to keep it to social occassions whilst I am trying to lose weight... empty calories and all that.

I am continuing to "cream wildly" too Grin

WideWebWitch · 05/03/2006 09:44

Moondog, I've just read The Hungry Years too, I thoroughly enjoyed it too.

I ate vegetable biryani, chapatis - loads of them, with butter Blush, ate cheese & crackers, drank shedloads of dry white wine, didn't drink enough water and fell into bed at 11ish without taking my make up off, oops. Woke at 4am and drank loads of water, then ex mil occupied dd and ds until 7.30am so I do actually feel fine, much better than I deserve to. And I've had toast loaded with butter for breakfast. I did use handcream yesterday and sunscreen but that's it, oh well, onwards and upwards, tomorrow is another week, week 2 for anyone who's been here since the beginning.

I have been taking Vitamin E for a few months as well as eating a lot of nuts and seeds (linseed, pumpkin, sunflower and so on) in the home made muesli I have every morning. Also lots of salmon, herring and tuna.
Looking at some pictures taken this week,I can see the dfference it's made to my skin.

Grin

Crap day yesterday, Doritos, fish and chips, cake. I felt disgustingly bloated last night and vowed never to do it again Grin.

On the positive side, I do have nicely "creamed" hands and feet.

Am just eating wraps stuffed with ham, peppers, onions, carrots and will drink loads of water and some peppermint tea.

Trying to think positively about next week and will look out for The Hungry Years - it sounds good.

Blackduck · 05/03/2006 13:21

Okayish day until we decided to go for a curry - two bottles of wine (between us) later.....
Don't feel too bad this morning, but will be teetotal for the rest of the week.
Am mositurising....and need to do feet.....(going on holiday in May and want lovely feet - which if you have ever seen mine, you will know is impossible Grin )

moonshine · 05/03/2006 15:56

Am tittering at thought of lots of us 'creaming' ourselves on this thread . I too am good at the creaming but not some other bits. Went for my long walk yesterday but pretty much undid the good with shedloads of wine and choc - weekends are always always my downfall. I am also a sugar addict and know I should go cold turkey but the thought fills me with horror atm.

And I too used to like the Police - well briefly(queued for hours for gig tickets once) but never ever fancied Sting, I am proud to say. Young and stupid, yes, but not that naive Smile.

Here's hoping for a good week for us all...

yoyo · 05/03/2006 19:37

Had a mixed day yesterday. Took DD on surprise trip to the theatre for her birthday and then went to Canteen for an early supper. Had a lovely meal but it wasn't that "good" (fishcake, peas and chips followed by apple crumble and custard and two glasses of wine). Still it was lovely to try out somewhere new, the children loved it and the atmosphere and staff were excellent. Had two more glasses when we got home too but I did fall asleep early! I laughed and laughed in the theatre so I felt I had done myself lots of good.

Having reasonable day today but haven't done much walking as I've been catching up with the household stuff.

I too liked the police but only the earlier stuff on coloured vinyl! Didn't fancy any of them either.

Read William Leith last Summer but have never particularly liked his writing style. Enjoyed the first half but thought it could have been a lot shorter. "Floaty" is part of our vocab now and we often remark that "so and so has gone floaty".

Time to get children to bed and then make DD's cake. It might be a late night...

winnie · 05/03/2006 20:42

Did an hours yoga today, "creamed" and deep conditioned hair, gave myself a pedicure and have eaten well whilst drinking lots of water and herb tea. I hope these good habits last as I am feeling really good. If doing this breaks one bad habit for any of us it has to be worth it imo.

ButternutSquash · 05/03/2006 21:03

Hello all. I had a good day today, porridge for (late) breakfast, went running and did lots of gardening, avocado on rye bread for lunch, tonight had vegetable soup.

Well that'll compensate for yesterday I hope, had dinner with friend, ate lots of pistachio nuts, bread with butter, apple strudel, and drank far too much wine.

I used to love the Police too, and I used to fancy the drummer too, Steward Copeland I think his name was. Can't stand Sting nowadays though...
