I think I must be mad but look at my photos and tell me which outfits work and which don't

I've lost 4.5 stone in the last 18 months and I am trying to get used to dressing for my new size and shape but am struggling to find my way a bit.

In what might be a moment of utter madness I have uploaded some photos to Flickr and I'd love some of you to have a flick through them and tell me if any outfits are good, any are not so good or any suggestions.

I'm looking for honest but not brutal Wink

This is how big I was 18 months ago here

These are my outfit photos here

My main worries are:

  1. I'm 31, am I dressing too young for my age?

  2. Are my legs too fat for dresses?

  3. Do I just look a bit daft?

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to have a look Thanks

No no
And no and how the hell did you do it??!!

tethersend · 12/05/2012 14:25

You look fantastic.

  1. No
  2. No
  3. No

I am not great at this sort of thing but there are probably sexier and more colourful stuff you could be wearing that would give you a real wow factor, you have the figure - go knock them dead Grin

PickledHegg · 12/05/2012 14:26

You look lovely, all the outfits suit you :) maybe a splash more of colour if your feeling a bit daring?

Pooka · 12/05/2012 14:26

Well done you!

I really like the jeans, stripey tops and flats outfits.

I prefer the dresses with the flat shoes rather than the boots which I personally think cut your legs off at wrong point - you've got good ankles and the boots hide these which is a shame. Same applies with the jeans outfits. The shapely ankles slim your legs and make them look proportionate whereas the boots make your legs seem shorter than they are.

I am no fashionista though - and must admit to just generally not liking ankle boots. I've also got good ankles relative to the rest of my legs and I look a bit stumpy if I wear them with skinny jeans as opposed to flats (unfortunately I have clown sized feet) or slight higher wider boots than slim my calves by comparison.

What do you feel most comfortable in? I'm all about the comfort Wink

danceswithfools · 12/05/2012 14:26

I normally lurk on s & b but since you have put your pictures up I thought I should post! I am not a style expert (which is why I am lurking on here!) but I think you look great. I love the dresses, no I don't think your legs are too fat and well done on your weight loss. The only thing I don't like are the brown boots with heels that you are wearing with some of the dresses. I think they are better with trousers/leggings. But then, what do I know, I am on here myself because I am contemplating throwing out my whole wardrobe?!
And no, you are not dressing too young for your age.
I admire your style and your nerve!

frankie4 · 12/05/2012 14:26

You look great, well done for loosing all the weight. Love the stripy top and trousers. You look great in the dress, but I think it looks better with tights than without. But on a night out or on a hot day in the summer (we wish!) you could get away with bare legs.

Avver · 12/05/2012 14:27

Congratulations on the weight loss, that's an impressive amount to shift.

  1. No you're jolly well not - at 31, with the right haircut and enough confidence there's no reason why you can't wear most of the on-trend looks around at the moment. I actually think you're dressing a bit safe, to be honest. If I had a figure like yours I'd be straight down to Topshop and into a pair of pastel skinny jeans.

  2. No, but the ankle boots are doing you no favours.

  3. Do I just look a bit daft? Not remotely. Unless you count that weird black hat you've got on Wink

Greeata · 12/05/2012 14:27

Grin. You're a little bit mad aren't you?

You are not too old and you're legs are cetainly not too fat for dresses. You look fabulous. Smile

AceOfBase · 12/05/2012 14:28

No you look great but the one thing I would say is that I'm not sure about shoe boots with no tights. I'm not keen on ankle type boots anyway but I think unless you're a teenager you can't get away with no tights. Lovely clothes though :)

NewAndHopefullyImproved · 12/05/2012 14:29

Its been no quick fix, just Slimming World every week and a very supportive DH Grin

I'm just struggling to get the confidence to wear new things out of the house.

I love the look of boots with dresses but I just don't think I can pull it off, I haven't dared wear it out yet.

Think you look fab, honestly am Envy of your amazing achievement.

Can I hijack slightly and ask for your top tips for loosing the weight and keeping motivated please?!

MrsLettuce · 12/05/2012 14:30

I've not much time ATM so just dropping in. Congratulations on the weigh loss - you must have worked your arse off!

1 - no not too young, a drop younger would also be just fine and indeed good. nr 30 is a wee bit old, but fine.

2 - NO, nutter

3 - no

over all very good but a drop more colour wouldn't go a miss.

10, 9, 8 good boots but others would be better

14, 13 the red flats would be better

See y' later

NewAndHopefullyImproved · 12/05/2012 14:31

Maybe stick to flat pumps then? Show off my ankles better?

I only have that style of flats, if I ditch the boots are there any other shoes I can wear with dresses that are a bit more substantial that ballet pumps?

OP posts:
SquirtedPerfumeUpNoseInBoots · 12/05/2012 14:32

No, no and no!

I too prefer the dresses without the ankle boots.

I also think you could do with more colour, killer heels with your good legs would also be great.

I'm assuming the dark clothes are you still trying to blend into the shadows, but honestly you don't need to! You look fab! Well done!

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 12/05/2012 14:33

Well done on the weightloss Smile

Outfits are lovely, and your legs don't look fat. I like boots with dresses Smile. My only hopefully, comment would be, be brave and wear a bit more colour.

lumbago · 12/05/2012 14:34

Well doge losing weight ! Have you seen a doctor about your head ? ;)

I don't like the bare legs and boots.
Also couple of skirts too short.
Otherwise nice

oohermrs · 12/05/2012 14:34

Think you look amazing, well done I bet it's been hard going at times but totally worth it. Love the clothes, not sure about the hat though :o

NewAndHopefullyImproved · 12/05/2012 14:34

I haven't got the confidence to wear colours, I'll need to work up to that I think.

The brown ankle boots can be taken back, I only got those today.

OP posts:
dubaipieeye · 12/05/2012 14:35

You look amazing, but I agree with most of the other posters about the ankle boots and a bit more colour! Congrats on your weight loss - a great achievement.

NewAndHopefullyImproved · 12/05/2012 14:37

I'm wearing a size 10 now, even a few size 8's but I still see size 20 when I look in the mirror so its very hard to pick clothes. Wearing a dress is a BIG DEAL for me!

Other than boots any suggestions on what I could wear with dresses?

Any suggestions for other styles of clothes I could wear would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time to give me some advice, it means a lot Thanks

QuickLookBusy · 12/05/2012 14:39

You look fantastic!! Well done, I think you look great in the dresses and jeans, but agree with the other poster who mentioned colour. Maybe get a couple of nice colourful cardis to go over everything.
