I think I must be mad but look at my photos and tell me which outfits work and which don't

I've lost 4.5 stone in the last 18 months and I am trying to get used to dressing for my new size and shape but am struggling to find my way a bit.

In what might be a moment of utter madness I have uploaded some photos to Flickr and I'd love some of you to have a flick through them and tell me if any outfits are good, any are not so good or any suggestions.

I'm looking for honest but not brutal Wink

This is how big I was 18 months ago here

These are my outfit photos here

My main worries are:

  1. I'm 31, am I dressing too young for my age?

  2. Are my legs too fat for dresses?

  3. Do I just look a bit daft?

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to have a look Thanks

I think they look nice.

But I am just posting to say I love your hairdo. Grin

AceOfBase · 12/05/2012 15:11

Wedges? Kitten heels? In nice bright colours. Or flat ballet pumps.

NewAndHopefullyImproved · 12/05/2012 15:11

I love those toe post sandals, I'll get a pair of those. Not sure about the court shoes, I'd have to try them on and see if I walk all wobbly in them!

I hate to leave you all but I have to go and get the DC up from their naps, I'll be back on tonight though, after they go to bed at 7pm.

Thanks all, you're all being so helpful. Thanks

You look fabulous, congratulations. :o

Shoes for dresses, how about fabric wedges? with an ankle strap, or sandals.

I personally didn't like the horizontal striped tops, the longer one was better though, just because they made you look wider. A small patterned short sundress would work.

At 31 you can still dress young, think Sienna Miller hippy chic.

AceOfBase · 12/05/2012 15:13

For jewellery try accessorize. They often have bright chunky type stuff

NewAndHopefullyImproved · 12/05/2012 15:13

I really will go and get the DC up from bed soon, but to answer BandersnatchCummerbund I am 5ft4 and at SW this week I weighed in at 9st8lbs.

I have my eye on this oasis scarf , it might go nicely with your jeans outfits (and there is 20% off Oasis with Elle voucher code at the moment.

ninjanurse · 12/05/2012 15:13

You can get some lovely brightly coloured ballet shoes now, which would work well with the dresses.

Head to Primark and check out their jewellery section, cheap as chips and loads of different colours. A brightly coloured handbag would also go well with dark dresses.

Well done on the weight loss - you look great!

SpeckleDust · 12/05/2012 15:15

What Miss Beehive said, "Why don't you think about getting your colours done Smile"

I had mine done shortly after DD1 was born when I was in limbo with my 'style' and went for a colour consultation thing here: www.colourmebeautiful.co.uk/home

It made me look at clothes in colours I would have never considered trying before and I now zone in "my" colours when I go into clothes shops.

And what ^they all said - you look fantastic and are no way too old for any of the things you've worn. Just out of interest, which clothes shops do you like to shop in???

NewAndHopefullyImproved · 12/05/2012 15:17

Dorothy Perkins and New Look recently because I don't want to spend much on clothes that I'm still unsure about myself in.

Right, I'm off now to get them out of bed. Will check back tonight. Thanks again!

I agree with everyone you look great and none of the outfits look daft.

Shoe wise how about some wedges? On trend, more comfortable than court shoes and they make your legs look evern more amazing.

Hopefully · 12/05/2012 15:21

OMG you look amazing! Well done on such amazing commitment. I think all the outfits look lovely. More colour could be good, agreed. You have a lovely figure now, you can flaunt away Smile

cosysocks · 12/05/2012 15:25

You look fab! Love jeans and flats outfits, not sure about ankle boots and dress though.

nickelhasababy · 12/05/2012 15:28

i like the ankle boots with the dresses.

and you look great in all of the pictures - even with the big round head Grin

chocolateshoes · 12/05/2012 15:29

Really impressed - well done.

Stripe tops & jeans look great - agree you could try some coloured jeans - maybe russet?

how about some sandals with a slight heel to wear with the dresses? Dont agree that the dresses are too short - I'd wear them. Def think some colour is the way forward - who ever suggestion a bright cari - good idea

dislike the ankle boots with anything but love the red flats.

SpeckleDust · 12/05/2012 15:30

I was thinking some kind of blazer or jacket that would bring outfits together IYKWIM.

And definitely a pair of wedges as I think they work well with jeans and dress outfits alike.

AntPants1 · 12/05/2012 15:45

You look amazing. Love your "looks" your legs are great.

Agree with suggestion on getting your colours done. I had mine done at House of Colour and found it really useful. You need some scarves though.

Have you had a look at zara- some great coloured jeans in there at the moment and good selection of scarves.

Dorethy Perkins also has a good selection of maxi skirts and dresses for the summer

tethersend · 12/05/2012 15:57

The dress with ankle boots is one of the best looks. Great with bare legs, don't take them back.

polyhymnia · 12/05/2012 16:10

Just to say well done - fantastic.

I definitely don't think the clothes are too young - I wear the stripy top, skinny jeans type outfit and am much older (and larger) than you. If anything, would say you could be a bit bolder, and 'younger'. I'm sure other 30 somethings will have ideas.

Though you do look good now. Love the dresses.

Pooka · 12/05/2012 16:10

If you've got a birthday coming up you could ask for vouchers and maybe book a personal shopping trip. A friend did this, went to John Lewis with her sister and her outfits and the personal shopper picked out styles that would suit and accessories too. She spent her vouchers and went away with a heap of ideas about clothes and styles that suited her.

I'd love to do that, but I want to shift last half stone first....

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/05/2012 16:18

You look great in a lot of the pics but no to bare legs and boots - only works on my tall leggy dd1 and Kate Moss/others of their shape imho.

drywhiteplease · 12/05/2012 16:44

Amazing!!!!!well done, its incredible.
I think you could wear anything. The outfits are fine, but, like other posters I'm not a fan of the bare leg look with tan boots. More colour!!!!!
You are still choosing dark colours to make you look slimmer when you don't need to.
I think we all see ourselves differently than we really are. I always focus on my bum and tbh it's not big at all. I realised this after seeing a pic of the back of a woman at a party I went to...only to realise it was me!!!! Sound wacky and vain, but if you are unsure about an outfit, get someone to take a photo of you in it and then you can assess it more objectively. That's what I do when I am unsure.
But do get more colour....get some red skinny jeans you'd look great! Get a black blazer, some scarves, ........go shopping and have fun.
