Come in, come in, we have gloriously sarcastic and opinionated staff waiting to serve you. Malory will never know as I have it on the best authority she is safely away for the week.

Who's first?

I think dangly earrings and very short hair can make you look a bit 'knit your own muesli'.

SorenLorensen · 11/02/2006 10:52

And I've solved the problem anyway - still in my nightie and dressing gown, very comfy.

morningpaper · 11/02/2006 11:15

I was bit concerned about the muesli implication

Also want to avoid the Pat Butcher look

FrannyandZooey · 11/02/2006 12:50

Soren - on no account go outdoors while in your nightie. The Style Shop can not sanction this sort of behaviour.

MP, I think some glamorous, fairly plain long earrings would be ok, but not very beady or elaborate ones. Can't do links to stupid Accessorize but they have some called 2 stone snake drop earrings which I think would be quite cool.

However the senior partner is not around at the moment and may over rule me on this (what is wrong with looking like you weave your own lentils anyway, hmmm???)

I bought this today, had a real problem with all the skirts I tried on... size 12 fitted perfectly on my hips but gaped unattractively at the waist. M&S didn't have the dress recommended here, typical it was lovley- but it made me thik that the older fashioned hourglass look would suit me, and indeed the dress (very 40's on) did. Thanks you lot.

And the shoes I bought were almost identical to those you suggested HC, and REALLY comfy- could easily walk in them.

harpsichordcarrier · 11/02/2006 17:18

I know I have thaty problem too C, if it fits round the hips it gapes round the waist...
glad you found something you like
sorry you are not really looking forward to the event though

PS definite no to long earrings and short hair.... sorry

Beetroot · 11/02/2006 17:20

I wore today..black side leg trousers with white san smith traners. and they look great

FrannyandZooey · 11/02/2006 17:22

Hey HC when do I get paid?

OP posts:
harpsichordcarrier · 11/02/2006 17:24

money means nothing to you knit your own lentils types
nasty capitalist stuff
would you like a lovely hug instead?

FrannyandZooey · 11/02/2006 17:27

No I want filthy lucre. I need to pay £200 up front for the "Why Capitalism is a Very Bad Thing" workshop I am attending this week.

OP posts:
harpsichordcarrier · 11/02/2006 17:29

let me save you the money
it isn't

FrannyandZooey · 11/02/2006 17:31

I'm sorry, that is not the same as sitting on a hemp mat for 6 hours and discussing it with Mungo the Tree Dweller.

Plus I am hoping to visit Mungo in his yurt afterwards to sample his herbal cider.

hello, can you help me please?

got a job interview on friday. its an artsy type job in a local authority. not sure if i want it. i digress.

haven't had an interview for 7 years. am 5'7, ample of bust and bum. don't do trousers. have many pairs of splendid shoes and one skirt that is possibly appropriate. where shall i start?

harpsichordcarrier · 11/02/2006 17:40

tell us about the skirt pls
and your favourite shoes

FrannyandZooey · 11/02/2006 17:41

I am probably best staying out of this one as I have never actually been to an interview .

I will lurk and smile encouragingly at you both.

what colour is your hair mazzystar?

Mazzystar · 11/02/2006 17:46

skirt is jus below knee, sunray pleats, black, from last season toast sale. possibly a bit tyrelike over the behind, so may possibly reject at last moment.

shoes:
v classic gucci slingbacks in oxblood type colou
miu miu mary janes with medium wooden heel in darkish red
marc jacobs black and white t-bars with high heel

all dating from days of more money than sense, budget does not match former shoe budget.

Mazzystar · 11/02/2006 17:47

hair is dark brown crop/bob thing a la toniand guy

need to look arty but smart (or vice versa)

harpsichordcarrier · 11/02/2006 17:48

hmmmm you like the shoes clearly
good start
not sure about the sunray pleats tbh if the bum is described as ample... let me have a look
I PROMISE I will be back....

harpsichordcarrier · 11/02/2006 17:48

{arty and smart is my vibe too}

ProfessorG · 11/02/2006 18:22

Hello another customer for the style shop. What do you recommend for going out with the girls type clothes for someone with absolutely no norks and overly long legs? am 5'7 with 34" legs, flat arse, flat chest??? age 37 so no micro minis thankyou and skinny jeans make my arse look a bit wide in comparison (is only size 10/12 - 8 occasionally in per una - but still)

help please ladies?!

Mazzystar · 11/02/2006 18:25

you could wear anything you like by the sound of it

are you oldish or youngish

ProfessorG · 11/02/2006 18:45

am 37 - which is that?!

FrannyandZooey · 11/02/2006 19:21

Prof G - we have similar bods so I can advise you here. I like cropped trousers as they are the only trousers that at least look like they are too short on purpose. Camisole top, with crinkly blouse on top? Or camisole top, little cardi? Boots or pumps.

Or, how about a fitted dress, just on or just over the knee, with patterned tights? I think the legs are an asset and should be made the most of.

HC will be back later to tell me how wrong I have got it.

harpsichordcarrier · 11/02/2006 19:57

mazzystar I am keen on this cardigan for the ample bosom
