My name is Season and I'm a sizzler. I'm on my second diy course of Glycolic Acid 30%.

Sign in here if you're using GA, SA, LA, or MA, or indeed some new hardcore A with a mellow melt and searing sizzle. Smile

It does come with intructions Calam.

I was speaking with my beauty therapist today and she is a mahooosive fan of GA however she did warn me not to overdo it as I can damage the acid mantel in the skin. This will leave your skin open to bacteria affecting the skin. She says GA is a great way to add things into the skin like a collagen booster. So we've to use it like a wee train...to take minerals etc to the skin while it is vunerable.

She also says that Bare Minerals is a great foundation to use in conjunction with peeling.
I have been using bm however she says that the buffing action to get full coverage for acne scarred skin is to vigorous for acne skin. So the best thing to do is to apply product to the skin using a flat brush and press in into the skin. Then just have a light buff instead of buffing for ages as this is stimulating the oil production in itself.
Another top tip is to cover your face in Sudocrem an hour or two afterpeeling as its antibacterial and contains zinc. Then gently wash off. Does wonders apparently.

SHe does say that GA is the secret to eternal youth however to stick within the guidelines or you can damage your skin and be at risk of thread veins etc.

Ouch - third time today (since Friday Blush) but the first time i have felt the 'sizzle' - I can't have been doing it properly before - but...had massive improvement in ugly blackhead on Saturday... [puzzled]
'Sizzle' - blardy good description Grin

NotMostPeople · 24/04/2012 20:19

My name is NotMostPeople and I'm a sizzler, I last peeled on Sunday night.

I used 10% SA with LA for 6 minutes.

I really can't see any difference so I'm going to have my two week break now and go back to the GA, which sizzled a lot more.

Important announcement

Just had a charming email from the owner of Bravura (the pushers who got me addicted to this stuff in the first place). She sounds rather lovely actually so I'm pleased we've inadvertently promoted a company owned by someone nice!

She gave some advice on using acid (see The Rules) and also mentioned their facebook page which could be a good place to go to get some advice on stuff like what we should do for subsequent courses, rather than just guessing like we usually do Hmm. There's also a discussion about the Daily Fail article there: www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Bravura-London/259992380750233

Oh and money for old rhino skin: they're paying £30 (in products) for before and after pics (see the fb page for details).

The Rules:

  1. No more than one sizzle per week
  1. Do not ignore the 'wait 30 mins after washing before sizzling' dictat

She said "the reason you need to wait 30 minutes after cleansing is to allow your skin to return to its normal PH, the reason it?s probably burning more is because the PH of the skin is high, the reason it?s stinging is because the skin is beginning to partially neutralise the acid, so although people think that because it?s stinging more it?s working better, it?s in fact doing the opposite."

I wonder if that's the reason we've seen different results and burning - I've been pretty good at always waiting 30 minutes and I saw an improvement immediately AND only found it starting to get burny towards the end of my 7 minute peel.

Just done my fourth for 8 mins, and boy did it sizzle! And itch whilst it was on, not a burn a huge itch.

So what now? I guess 8 mins for the last two?

sansucre · 24/04/2012 22:35

Wooo! I should get another gold star as I've always waited a week between peels ( that means a big no to the 7 minute GA peel I had planned for tomorrow night )and I also wait at least 30 minutes after cleaning/washing my face before applying the treatment too - get me! :o

I should definitely be appointed Head Girl or something, although let's face it, that honour totally belongs to SeasonOfTheWitch Thanks

PS. I have to confess I've been wondering when Bravura would contact one of us lot.. They must love us!

DoUntoOtters · 24/04/2012 22:47

Did you get loads of free stuff, OP?

I am going to wait until Friday now. Was thinking about doing it tomorrow, but will be good.

missmakesstuff · 24/04/2012 23:44

I have nearly finished my course of 6, last one next Sunday - I am using SA/LA 15%, my skin was very spotty and the pores were clogged no end, tons of blackheads, cystic acne the lot. Now, I can actually see my pores, they are practically clear, I did have peeling around my nose and chin right at the start, but that has calmed down, however what I am finding is that the spots that have erupted are being dried out very quickly.

My skin just looks so much clearer, tis amazing!

I would like to do before and after, but actually I don't know if the difference would be that obvious in a photo, it's more close up it has made a difference.

Not sure what to go for next, maybe just SA%, I think I will stick to this as it's better than the GA for oily skin.

TheWisdomOfSolomum · 25/04/2012 01:29

I've only done one GA peel but I waited the 30 mins after cleansing. When I first applied the acid there was no sting/burn so thought "dammit its not working!"

lubeybooby · 25/04/2012 01:52

Hi sizzlers, checking in here.

2 x 30% GA peels down here - am overdue another but keep forgetting

Thanks SOTW for the advice re; waiting 30 mins. I will definitely do that next time - I think I did anyway before but will make sure this time. I'll try and get a 'before' pic at some point too even though I've already done two.

brighthair · 25/04/2012 02:51

Ooh I just got a dispatch email Grin

TheWisdomOfSolomum · 25/04/2012 10:15

My Tweezerman Extractor has arrived. However, after my peel on Sat and I doing a Sudocrem mask last night, I seem to have an absence of blackheads. Bugger!

Does it work on blocked pores? I still have those on my chin, although much smaller and less visible than before.

Whitershadeofpale · 25/04/2012 10:33

I posted on facebook asking if I once a month was OK for maintenance and they've said that that sounds like a good regime. One more peel of this course left and then I'll do another full course before starting to do once a month.

TheGruffalosbitch · 25/04/2012 11:48

catinboots · 25/04/2012 19:58

Just sizzled for 6 mins with 50% GA.

I'm really free-stylin' now Grin

Looking good tho. Tight, clean and shiny. A bit like a spoon with hair.

Still finding the gravy stains stubborn. Grrr.

kaumana · 25/04/2012 20:14

I am a GA 30% and have done my 7 mins 12 days ago.

Yesterday, I went to the other side ..

2 minutes with 20% SA on nose and chin,

Oh my * f g *cs

However, 24hrs post sizzling all is fine no peeling , tad dry which will be sorted by oils.

SA girls are hard core!

kaumana · 25/04/2012 20:14

ps Nose looks very shiny..

WeesaD · 25/04/2012 20:15

Ooh catin, I want to try the 50%! How many have you done with it, and how many minutes did you start with?

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 25/04/2012 20:21

Has anyone else suffered from terrible cold sores since they did this?

I am prone to them, but I don't normally get them this bad. Really sore and taking ages to heal (they are better now but I have had 6 days of looking like a monster).
