So I am curvy with a big bust and big bottom and a comparitively little waist I'm somewhere between a 12/14, jeans has always given me a bit of a muffin top but now I have a little post baby belly I've started to loath them. I'm always having to hoik them up as they slip down, I never feel comfortable in them so I QUIT!!! I want to wear dresses, nice comfy day dresses that accentuate my curvy-ness in a good way, so anyone got any suggestions for a jeans free life?

i just had the same thought. been living in jeans forever, used to be able to work in them, never occurred to me to try anything else since becoming a SAHM 4 years ago. BUT in those last four years I've looked a right state, hoiking jeans over builder's bum, vowing that if i could just lose weight all would be okay, feeling scruffy and old and miserable.

then a light came on and i've sworn i'm not going back. have so far bought three dresses and feel fantastic. been wearing them with leggings and cardies so not very dressy. surprised at how much younger and cooler i feel than when i was in jeans.

here are my three dresses - which i'm rotating! i am a size twelve. carry a lot on my hips, big boobs, small waist.

monsoon dress LOVE. very cool, stiff lining, looks a lot better on. well made.

joy flower feel very summery in this.

matalan butterfly this one is ACE. thought the shape wouldn't suit my curves but it's more fit and flare than it looks. figure hugging not shirt dressy.

i never want to wear jeans again but think i might need a few more dresses before i can retire them forever.

i'm no expert! have you tried dressipi? it was pivotal to my dress-shaped epiphany. the site recommended fit and flare dresses for me. i read that a fortnight ago and was slightly taken aback by the dresses suggestion. now, two weeks and three dresses later....

I've also been feeling the same way. I'm 27 with a baby and 3yr old, I'm a size 12-14 and no matter what jeans I buy, they look rubbish on... and like you say, it makes you feel old, I shouldn't be feeling like this in my 20's.

My idea is like yours, dresses with leggings, pumps and a cropped denim jacket from topshop. Also, some funky playsuits about which could also go with leggings (my legs are not the best).

Reading this has spurred me on so thanks! I've been feeling really down about how I look lately as my old look used to revolve around great fitting jeans (when I was younger and slimmer), I feel a bit lost style-wise.

My first port-of-call will be Topshop, possibly ASOS, a good belt with the dresses could really set the look off... will definitely beat builders bum n muffin tops.

SherlockKnomes · 03/03/2012 23:23

Some lovely things on here www.joythestore.com/c-1171-dresses.aspx - commence the mutiny against jeans and theyre muffin-top-uncomfortable-digging-in-bits-builder-bum torture!

Thank so much for this thread OP, sorry I can't offer any wisdom but I'm sure this change would revolutionise my style too.
I'm a fat generous pear shape but get held back on the shoe side of things.
I really can't wear heels for more than 5 minutes but find flat shoes look too clumpy and make the shape of a lot of dresses unbalanced.

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated, I suspect A line skirts and tops could be a way forward but still get nervous about the shoes - I really need footwear which I can comfortably walk a few miles in.

JennyPiccolo · 03/03/2012 23:45

I am slowly building a collection of day dresses, on a very limited budget though. New look have some nice ones, and I got a tartan one from quiz (I know, but it's nice on). Think the key to cheap ones is to get a couple of nice belts and chuck away the cheapie belts that come with.

Can't put up links just now cos I'm on my phone, will share soon.

ninah · 03/03/2012 23:46

i'd rather lose the weight than the jeans, jeans are fab (devil's advocate)

butterfingerz · 03/03/2012 23:47

Yes Sherlock, theres some lovely dresses there. Joy didn't instantly spring to mind as there's not many of their shops about. I love the prints though, I'm fond of ditsy prints and tea dresses, anything a bit retro style. Funnily enough though, what ive been wearing lately doesnt reflect what I really like at all, whether its lack of confidence, time, money, I don't know.

There's so many nice dresses about at the moment I think it'd be a shame to spend any more time in bloody boring jeans!

What accessories were you thinking?

JennyPiccolo · 03/03/2012 23:47

That joy flower dress is gorgeous!Envy

IHeartKingThistle · 04/03/2012 00:03

I've just bought this and I love it. So so comfy.

I want more like it!

SherlockKnomes · 04/03/2012 07:42

I know exactly what you mean butterz I was buying a top the other day thinking 'This isn't me! I don't wear clothes like this..WTAF is happening here' So no more! I bought this last night, I'm on the hunt for a nice cardi for it that won't hide my waist today - I'm thinking like a ballet style one you know the wrap ones that knot at the back?

issima extensive ballet cardie hunting shows there are few around now - all I yielded was 1 at asos but in pale pink which isn't very me and one in John Lewis for £110 Shock so hit ebay and purchased these - tie front and this which is perfect but I'm a bit worried it'll be too long. tyaca hope you dont mind but I think I'm going to copy you and buy that Joy Flower dress, it is so lovely!

Is it too late to give up jeans for lent? I am 5 weeks post baby and still hoiking up maternity jeans. I am seriously thinking I'll give up jeans for a month and see what happens Grin

herbaceous · 04/03/2012 09:44

This has been a revelation! I've never found jeans comfy - if they fit on the waist they pinch round the thighs and crotch, they fall down when I bend then have to be hoiked up, etc, but I somehow thought they were compulsory and I had to put up with it. I wear leggings and jumper dresses a lot for things like soft play, but a tea dress and cardi/hoody/etc could be the solution for all days!

jasminerice · 04/03/2012 09:48

For cardi's try woolovers, they do lovely silk/cotton cardi's in a huge range of colours for only £20! I've bought loads from there. Sizes come up big, I'm normally 12 to 14 top but I got small cardi's.

I'm on it already! It's helpfully told me to get v-necked shirt dresses, but unhelpfully can't tell me where to get such a thing...
