So I am curvy with a big bust and big bottom and a comparitively little waist I'm somewhere between a 12/14, jeans has always given me a bit of a muffin top but now I have a little post baby belly I've started to loath them. I'm always having to hoik them up as they slip down, I never feel comfortable in them so I QUIT!!! I want to wear dresses, nice comfy day dresses that accentuate my curvy-ness in a good way, so anyone got any suggestions for a jeans free life?

tyaca could you do me massive favour and tell me length of matalan butterfly one? Thanks so much.

pipoca · 04/03/2012 17:06

So, what kind of dress can I wear with leggings and boots then? Dressipi recommends fit and flare dresses but they'd look a bit overdone with tights and heels, no?

SherlockKnomes · 04/03/2012 18:29

Maybe something like this pipoca or this ?

Chants73 · 04/03/2012 19:35

I'm up for ditching jeans as they never seem to look right on me-too much tummy-but Dressipi recommends tailored shift dresses which I think look too formal for weekend wear...and I think the leggings boots combo would be odd. Has anyone seen any frocks that would fit the bill please?

IHeartKingThistle · 04/03/2012 20:27

Channelling Rihanna with that last one piccolo! Love it!

Have you all seen these on HandM? I guess it's a cheap pre-order price as not available till 19th.

This is fun!

pipoca · 04/03/2012 21:08

Also, what kind of boots? I have some leather just under the knee ones with no heels? god, I have noooooooo idea about fashion, I really really don't.

SherlockKnomes · 04/03/2012 21:17

Ha just sat wondering which shop 'Hand M' is iheart that is a lovely selection jenny especially like the first one! I have bought this - courtesy of tyaca and look at the back of it!! and this cardigan- which may be a bit old lady ish, I'm not sure I was chanelling vintage chanel but these things rarely pay off couple of plain tie cardigans and a waist cincher belt off ebay for £1.00

SherlockKnomes · 04/03/2012 21:18

I reckon just short of the knee riding-boot style ones pipoca but don't quote me on it, its all speculation...

SherlockKnomes · 04/03/2012 21:19

Did you see my links btw pipoca what did you think?

OP posts:
IHeartKingThistle · 04/03/2012 21:27

Can I ask a cardigan question? I like this one but do you think that collar would look nice unbuttoned? I definitely wouldn't wear it like that! I'm sure I had one like it once but just can't remember!

pipoca · 04/03/2012 21:29

sherlock really liked the first oe, not sure about the backlessness of the second, but like the dress in one of the little side windows next to it this kookai one do ou think it'd work with leggings and boots?

Yes, was wondering about cardigans too. I am soooo clueless. for years I've lived in jeans, the smartest I get is jeans, a long sleeved top and tight fitting cardi from H and M.

SherlockKnomes · 04/03/2012 21:45

goodness I hadn't seen the back - chilly!! yes I think that would work - though personally I'm a wooly tights and boots girl but thats just me! I reckon (and again this is guess work) that cardies need to be really short like the one I linked or like this to stop us looking nannified. Iheart I think that's really nice - maybe just with a top underneath and leggins and boots - i think with a loose or patterned skirt the potential to look like a mad old bag lady is huge but that may be just because I can't picture it. Why the feck isn't there software to try clothes combination together on your laptop yet??!

OP posts:
SherlockKnomes · 04/03/2012 21:46

oh what I meant to say iheart is yes it would look nice with the top unbuttoned!!

OP posts:
IHeartKingThistle · 04/03/2012 22:22

I am LOVING picturing myself as a mad old bag lady! Definitely my new look...Grin

See I like long cardigans open over shortish dresses, so the hemlines are sort of the same length iyswim. With woolly tights! Agree that long cardi with loose or midi skirt would look rubbish.

I'm a bit self conscious with shorter cardis - I have a really long body and although my bum isn't big it can look a bit, um, low Blush in some dresses. So it's long cardis or fit and flare dresses for me!

StephA · 05/03/2012 00:14

Jeans are so dull and uninteresting - I would love to stop relying on them so much, but I just HATE wearing tights. horrible horrible tights. So jeans with nice soft cotton socks wins out every morning, unfortunately.

SayHelloToMyLittleFriend · 05/03/2012 11:25

I've saw a few navy dresses I like but I just don't know what to wear with them (what colour tights and shoes). Also for anyone buying fit and flare dresses for during the day, what shoes are you wearing?

BonfireOfKleenex · 05/03/2012 11:30

Steph - I am with you on the tights, nylon just doesn't belong on feet That and droopy crotches...

Leggings are the only way for me really, with socks and boots in winter. I'm working on ways of incorporating them into my summer wardrobe Hmm

The summer shoes thing is a nightmare though. Sandals that don't look horribly scruffy, don't stink without socks and that you can actually WALK in are the holy grail.

Jackstini · 05/03/2012 11:38

Oooh - I want to join!
Am fine with dresses in the summer but a bit clueless winter wise.
Also what do you wear with dress/leggings combo when it is too sunny for boots but too cold for no socks?

SherlockKnomes · 05/03/2012 11:50

I'd go for tights and ballet pump flats, but I am v umimaginative!

look steph you CAN still wear your <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=50s+rockabilly+dress+and+socks&um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&biw=1252&bih=609&tbm=isch&tbnid=69dhpBOylsEOAM:&imgrefurl=www.discountwomensdressshoes.com/servlet/the-36692/50S-Sock-Hop-Rockabilly/Detail&docid=ZlwnTjqq3SennM&imgurl=www.discountwomensdressshoes.com/images/Zzcos-Av-83530-Sock-Hop-Black-Pink-Womens-Designer.jpg&w=1000&h=1000&ei=76hUT67ZDqTF0QWj-bX1Cw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=118&vpy=137&dur=252&hovh=225&hovw=225&tx=133&ty=87&sig=104110774687131997752&page=1&tbnh=141&tbnw=141&start=0&ndsp=23&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">lovely cotton socks Grin

Bonfire, tried gladiator sandals? I lived in mine last summer. Then again I love flip flops too, maybe I've got tough feet. However I'm going for some Lacoste pumps (from ASOS).

Not thinking about keeping warm, winter is behind us people (ignoring gale force wind outside).

Eyed some cute tea-style dresses, will wear with leggings (navy as a change from black) and cropped denim jacket. Saw an orange denim jacket from River Island bit worried it might be too 'out-there'!

Having fun though... am wearing a dress and tights today as it happens, a French connection one I had in the wardrobe 'for best'. It's only a short jersey thing, don't think I'm swanning around in a cocktail dress...

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 05/03/2012 15:03

I agree, spring/summer/autumn shoes are the big problem. Ballet flats offer no support, flip flops are either delicate and no support, or supportive and clumpy (Fitflops etc), gladiators make my legs look stumpy, I can't wear heels because I have a bad back which rules out wedges too.

I also can't stand bows of any description on shoes, why do so many manufacturers do that?

butterfingerz · 05/03/2012 15:17

Whoknows, have a look at Esprit? I think its a more popular brand in Europe. They have nice shoes... would moccassins work for you maybe? As Esprit have loads. The quality is good as I order quite a lot for my kids and myself from them. Free delivery and returns too.

BonfireOfKleenex · 05/03/2012 15:43

Butterfingerz - sadly gladiators don't look great on my stumpy pins, they also tend to have very thin flat soles which I don't like.

I always end up in flip flops too, which is fine for most of the time but not for anything which requires a degree of gravitas.
