So I am curvy with a big bust and big bottom and a comparitively little waist I'm somewhere between a 12/14, jeans has always given me a bit of a muffin top but now I have a little post baby belly I've started to loath them. I'm always having to hoik them up as they slip down, I never feel comfortable in them so I QUIT!!! I want to wear dresses, nice comfy day dresses that accentuate my curvy-ness in a good way, so anyone got any suggestions for a jeans free life?

Thanks Butterfingerz, I don't like moccasins either . I've had a look at Esprit and all the flats seem to be ballerina, moccasin or lace up. I just have to keep looking.

I ditched jeans a few months ago. Have only worn them since and felt v uncomfortable. My prob is I have hideous legs, so def need something on the knee, but most of the dresses I see, and many linked here are mid thigh. I can't be the only one with crap legs? I am a short arse too, 5'2", so it is tricky. I wear mostly skirts, but would love a few dresses. (have some summer ones, but need suitable for other times. i.e. now)

Am v glad to have gone jeans free. I often find I am the only one in a room full of mums not wearing jeans.

butterfingerz · 05/03/2012 17:09

I don't have brilliant legs, I'm a 12-14 and my dad always said I've got footballers legs! I'm planning on wearing my dresses for the summer with leggings... maybe if I go on the sunbeds a few times or slap on fake tan I might be persuaded to go bare legged. I also buy that Sally Hansen leg makeup as I have one or two patches of thread veins which some numpty will point out if I don't cover them up.

Most of the mums I see wear jeans too, myself included, it's like a sea of denim, mum boots (myself included) and a dull jacket. You just get stuck in a rut don't you, regardless of age, size etc. I can't be doing with it anymore, I wore dress, tights, long cardi combo over the weekend and felt the best I've done for a long time, much slimmer too. Some of the younger mums I've seen also seem to have ditched jeans for dresses and it looks really nice on them.

Bonfire, I'd probably suffer heels if I was going anywhere with any gravitas which is quite rare these days sadly. I wear gladiators with trousers or leggings which looks nice, I don't think I'd wear them bare legged either, deffo makes most legs look stumpy.

I bought Falke tights from ASOS, soft cotton, they were expensive but seem to be indestructible, had them a while now (usually have to repeat buy tights).

blibblibs · 05/03/2012 17:37

I too would like to move away from the dreaded jean uniform but also have hideous legs. They are ok below the knee but cannot show fat knees so even leggings/tights don't help.
Dressipi recommend empire line dresses but have no recommendations so am at a bit of a loss.
Have been on joy, thank you ladies, and quite like this but no idea if I'm headed in the right direction or could even carry it off Grin

I'm only 5'2 so hoping for knee coverage!

try again!

butterfingerz · 05/03/2012 17:45

Blibb, why don't you look at this too?

Doesn't look the best on the mannekin but got great reviews. There's other 'midi' dresses too.

butterfingerz · 05/03/2012 17:47

I like that Joy one, lovely.

That's gorgeous - I'm worried about dresses with a chiffon-type top layer though - I don't know if they're too dressy for daytime? I've got a bright yellow one similar and I'm always a bit scared to wear it!

SherlockKnomes · 05/03/2012 18:08

It is tricky, I think I've decided to just feck that and wear them anyway and channel Madmen, I reckon a cardie some flat shoes and we'l be remembers as the 'always-fabulous-one's' rather than the 'always looks like she thinks its 9pm and she's off for cocktails one' hopefully... A waist belt would probaby help too

Nice! My budget is fast dwindling though!

fabwoman · 05/03/2012 18:45

As usual really late to a thread but I have also got bored with jeans, though I do have a few pairs that fit, and want to wear dresses. I have a couple and bought one on Saturday which I am looking forward to wearing. I need educating about tights though. I am 40, 2 stone over weight with GG/H boobs and a size 14 in my new dress.

SherlockKnomes · 05/03/2012 18:46

Mines gone too :( living vicariously through others now. Shall we catch a rich person?

Oh issima I'm going to do that too!

Hi fabwoman, there's loads of great tights about. I usually go for cotton opaques, I go for large as I'm 5'7 so don't want a penguin crotch. Some also have inbuilt shapewear.

fabwoman · 05/03/2012 19:18

Thanks butterfingerz. I will have a look tomorrow.

ragged · 05/03/2012 19:22

I think you can keep to jeans you just need the right ones. Look for "curvey jeans"; I think Gap do a special line in them. There are previous MN threads about jeans for big hips & little waists.

vixsatis · 05/03/2012 19:25

Sit in any cafe for half an hour, or on the bus and watch the people that you see. So, so many of them will be wearing jeans. Most of them won't look good.

It's become a really rather dull uniform. They can look great on some people for some things but it's really liberating to focus on the other options.

And converse are great with summer dresses

blibblibs · 05/03/2012 19:37

Thanks butterfingerz, like the dress but not sure about the print so away to look for more Smile
