So I am curvy with a big bust and big bottom and a comparitively little waist I'm somewhere between a 12/14, jeans has always given me a bit of a muffin top but now I have a little post baby belly I've started to loath them. I'm always having to hoik them up as they slip down, I never feel comfortable in them so I QUIT!!! I want to wear dresses, nice comfy day dresses that accentuate my curvy-ness in a good way, so anyone got any suggestions for a jeans free life?

Just wanted to say that I'm 26 prob a size 10/12 and I don't own any trousers (apart from jogging bottoms) and haven't for about 5 years. I never feel strange for not wearing jeans - I'm quite a girly girl and just love dresses.
The only comments I ever get are positive - have never felt remotely odd for not having trousers. Actually last week I borrowed a pair of jeans from a friend as we were painting her house after work. Seriously they were so uncomfy!! I could hardly get up the stairs and was so paranoid about sitting and showing the top of my bum!! Think that's it for the next 5 years. Though I did have random people who I have never spoken to before in the office stop me and say "omg you're wearing trousers!!"

IHeartKingThistle · 05/03/2012 19:46

If we can make this converse/summer dresses thing work I will wear it till I'm 90 Grin.

Can ankle-less people like me rock it too?

IHeartKingThistle · 05/03/2012 19:48

Fabwoman have you done dressipi yet?

fabwoman · 05/03/2012 20:04

I tried but part way through it went weird and I couldn't complete it.

rightchoice · 05/03/2012 20:13

I hate jeans! I I had to wear them for Jeans for Genes day and moaned all day!! I love my dresses, with thick opaque tights and boots. I have built up a lovely collection and always feel good, feminine and comfortable. Its a real treat to think of never wearing jeans ever again. When I do want to wear 'trousers' I have some beautiful Karen Millen ones that you can pick up on ebay for under £10. Keep an eye out for the sales you can find bargain dresses to add to your collection.

butterfingerz · 05/03/2012 21:01

That's good encouragement Questiontime and Rightchoice, I have really spent so many years in jeans... not that they were all bad, I used to wear lots of supertight skinnies with killer heels pre-kids but I don't think I can go back to that. And I can't spend the rest of my 20s n 30s feeling rubbish. I feel my post-2kid body is actually ok, just not in jeans anymore...

I need to be Gok Wan'd!!

SherlockKnomes · 05/03/2012 21:09

shoo! shoo! I just think it's odd that if I realised that say I didn't suit polo necks, or strappy tops or mid length skirts I just wouldn't any obviously yet somehow for all these years I've thought jeans were compulsory - it is baffling!! Welcome fabwoman get on dressipi! Btw I'm a similar size and am having great fun dress shoping, loads to choose from!

Blib, yeah animal print isn't everyone's cup of tea though I could quite fancy meself as a Bet Lynch character, got the accent... I bet you'd be alright with a maxi-dress when the weather brightens up a bit, I might go for one, I think most people can pull off a good maxi.

SherlockKnomes · 05/03/2012 21:10

goddam wouldn't buy* any...

pipoca · 05/03/2012 21:11

loooooooove those dresses issimama

butterfingerz · 05/03/2012 21:19

Sherlock, women wearing trousers is historically quite a recent thing though isn't it? Probably with very good reason that women from days of yore wore dresses and skirts, it works for the female figure in a way that trousers and jeans don't... (please don't let me start a feminist debate!).

I dress my little girl in dresses and tights/leggings for one reason - because it looks comfy! She can run, climb and jump about without being restricted. So why don't I apply the same reasoning to myself?! Not that I am jumping round like a 3yr but you see what I mean.

lizardqueenie · 05/03/2012 21:31

reading this thread with great interest. I am also a converse devotee & haven't personally tried these buy how about the "lighter " converse for the summer

I have bought some lovely dresses and kind of tunic tops in Warehouse up to £65 and some bargains recently in Primark at just £10. Two favourites at the moment came from Primark and honestly I have never had so many compliments, you just have to be patient look through everything and try it on. Cheap and cheerful yes, but good quality. Also for the lady earlier with wide feet, Primark boots are wide generally and at the moment you can get them in the sale and put them away for next year and all Evans shoes are an E or EEE fit, so worth popping in there or going on line, some are awful but some are gorgeous.

MummyAnnabella · 05/03/2012 21:34

Who linked to h and m dresses above? I have just bought 4 for £12 Inc £4 delivery!!

IHeartKingThistle · 05/03/2012 21:37

Me! I've ordered both the print ones but kind of regretting not ordering the black now!

butterfingerz · 05/03/2012 21:42

Lizard, they're nice (don't think I could pull them off as I have big feet!)

I will be purchasing these though, probably in pink

I'm joining the quest for more day dresses Smile.
I too am sick of jeans .

rightchoice · 05/03/2012 21:46

Roll on summer - definately time to see more dresses this year, anyone into maxi's?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 05/03/2012 21:50

Not quite sure about dresses being more practical than jeans in summer though. In winter with leggings, yes, I can still sit cross legged on the floor, bend over, whatever without risking indecency. Bare legs and dresses are a whole different matter. I too dress my DD in tunics/leggings over jeans every time, short white leggings in summer, long ones in summer.

I do agree about the cheap and cheerful stuff, the two dresses I get most compliments for were from Asda and Sainsburys.

butterfingerz · 05/03/2012 21:55

The last time I wore a maxi was about 4yrs ago when I was expecting my first DC. But will deffo be getting one this year. I briefly glimpsed some Ted Baker ones on ASOS but a bit pricey. Topshop and RI have some stunning ones. I do think maxis are really flattering.

rightchoice · 05/03/2012 21:55

Anyone think the maxi will be back this Summer - if so the that gets over the indecency problem whoknowswherethetimegoes!!

SherlockKnomes · 05/03/2012 21:57

I think those could work lizard and you could make them look quite funky and rockabilly-ish if the mood so took you!

SherlockKnomes · 05/03/2012 21:59

Sadly I look like I'm being attacked by curtains in maxi-dresses ue to my hobbity stature but am happy in my fit and flare frocks!

OP posts:
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 05/03/2012 22:01

I've thought about maxis, I have got one ankle length skirt which gets round the decency problem, but it isn't very practical in other matters (tripping on the stairs, catching in car doors). Most of them seem to be empire line too which make me look pregnant (not vey tall). However I certainly haven't ruled them out.

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 05/03/2012 22:02

I love Maxi's I'm too short for them though.
Would love the dress and converse thing to roll out ...
Am off to look at dressipi. Smile
