So I am curvy with a big bust and big bottom and a comparitively little waist I'm somewhere between a 12/14, jeans has always given me a bit of a muffin top but now I have a little post baby belly I've started to loath them. I'm always having to hoik them up as they slip down, I never feel comfortable in them so I QUIT!!! I want to wear dresses, nice comfy day dresses that accentuate my curvy-ness in a good way, so anyone got any suggestions for a jeans free life?

I have just spent too much money because of you ladies Grin

I am going to Barcelona in 4 weeks for a 5 day break with some girl friends so needed some spring/summer stuff asap.

Have bought the following this week:-

Love the colour

Very flattering!

Not jeans but needed some trousers!

Looks like it will be flattering

I also got 3 of the £1.99 H&M dresses for pottering around the house in the summer (red, black and blue pattern)

Got two dresses in the Next sale (Red jersey twist one and black jersey wrap) but then I saw the reviews on google and they are very bad so might be returning them :(

Any other good sales on right now? Would like a couple more dresses. I am also very big on the bum and thighs but would like knee length dresses as my legs above the knee are BAD.

LinzerTorte · 14/03/2012 13:44

jumping Yes, I find H&M sizes can run quite small. S (10-12) is normally the right size for me, despite the fact that I'm normally a size 8 in the UK. I've bought a couple of tops in XS, but found the sleeves very tight.

MadameChinLegs · 14/03/2012 14:39

Has anyone took delivery of a £1.99 H&M dress yet? Ive got the black one in my shopping bag, ready to purchase, but wanted to see whether anyone else has tried them on yet.

Silverthorns · 14/03/2012 16:57

I've ordered 3 and am expecting them tomorrow... I figure if they're rubbish I'm going near an H&M on Saturday anyway. Want to try on some jackets to go with new frocks. There's a code for 25% off a single item from H&M (so good for bigger things like jackets etc) in this week's Money Saving Expert email. Grin

MadameChinLegs · 14/03/2012 16:59

I went to buy it, in black, along with two other items. The two other items werent avaliable to post until the end of the month, and they wouldnt send me just the dress, and no way for me to click to just send them all together. I know I have to order a minimum of £6, and with the other two items not being sent till the end of the month that means only 1.99, but they could just keep the dress until the other items are ready.

This internet shopping's not all it's cracked up to be.

jeansforever · 14/03/2012 17:02

Well i think i am destined to be in jeans forever as i haven't had any luck with the dresses i ordered.

Silverthorns · 14/03/2012 17:06

I've kept three dresses - this is my favourite, and there's 20% off at the moment as well. Really like a lot of what they have at DP's at the mo.

MadameChinLegs · 14/03/2012 17:07

Careful with DPs, as if you buy a 'concession' item, you cannot return to store. I nw have four dresses I need to take to the post office to return.

kaumana · 14/03/2012 18:23

Fat Face have an up to 50% sale on at the mo. There are some nice dresses and tunics (to be worn with leggings) in the sale. Free delivery to store and 6% back on Quidco.

cabbageandbeans · 14/03/2012 20:20

Thanks tyaca and silver I just got so impatient I have also bought 3 of the H&M bargain dress, even though my head is saying "it is on sale for a reason y'know!" I don't care. I did it! I figured I can do an angry if I they aren't going out items - they will do for pottering (thats if they fit of course as went for the 10-12!.......breathe in!).

ErnesttheBavarian · 14/03/2012 20:28

Can someone who does have the h and m dress please let us know what its like, length, gaping front?bdoes it look good or does it look like a £2 dress?

cabbageandbeans · 14/03/2012 21:06

Oh Jumping only just saw your post! Same dilemma here. I got 3 in 10-12 and one in 14-16 (would have got them all in both sizes but they were not in stock). I am usually small on top (more like a 10-12) but large on bottom (14-16 in trousers at H&M but am size 12 trousers in DP, next, m&s etc). In dresses in H&M I would normally fit a 12 I reckon. I have to wait a week now - the anticipation already too much!

IHeartKingThistle · 15/03/2012 08:33

My H+M dresses have arrived! I don't think they look like 2 quid dresses at all - the fabric is tshirty but nice and soft. The length is above the knee on me but not super short and I'm over 5 foot 9 so if you're shorter it'll be even longer. The front would be fine on me for going out I think but I wear a vest under everything anyway (tis the way I was raised!) so that helps make it more suitable for daywear. The tie round the waist is really nice. I've got the two print ones, kicking myself for not ordering the black!

I don't suppose I'd wear them for best but great for slinging on - and that was the objective, wasn't it, to avoid slinging on jeans!

LinzerTorte · 15/03/2012 08:41

I really must stay away from this thread if I want to have any money left in my bank account. Who was it who mentioned Next? I was quite excited to discover they have an international site with free delivery, but not quite so excited when I found out that all the sale items are only on the UK site (which doesn't deliver abroad).

Anyway, I have ordered this and a black-and-white tea dress that seems to have disappeared from the website. I was also quite tempted by the wrap dresses, especially this one, but couldn't justify spending any more money. I liked this too, but thought the neck might look a bit weird if you wore a top underneath it (which you'd have to really.

Have asked my parents to send on the red Matalan dress when it arrives, so will see what the fit is like before I order the yellow one - and keep my fingers crossed that they still have it in stock then.

spewgloriousspew · 15/03/2012 08:54

My problem is my feet - I love wearing dresses, but need to wear sensible, supportive shoes with my orthotics in. I live in my hi-top trainers - can I get away with these and pretty dresses?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 15/03/2012 08:58

Same here Spew - I can get away with supportive sandals such as Birkenstocks, but they don't look very elegant with dresses (might be OK if I was tall and willowy but I'm short with sturdy legs). Winter is OK as I wear boots and leggings/tights but summer is going to be a problem.

IHeartKingThistle · 15/03/2012 09:11

Spew we're all determined to make Converse / pretty dresses THE look from now on!

spewgloriousspew · 15/03/2012 09:14

Good. I will lead the way in my delightful suburb.

jumpinghoops · 15/03/2012 09:15

IHeartKingThistle- could you poss confirm the size thing for me with yours. What size are you normally and what size did you get that fit well?

Thanks!

IHeartKingThistle · 15/03/2012 09:26

Normally a 10. 10-12 is fine on me but I didn't want a tight fit. HTH

gottasmile · 15/03/2012 15:03

You've all inspired me!! I've just purchased 2 dresses from H & M, the £1.99 one (red) and one £12.99 (black). I can't wait to wear a dress, like you all I'm sooooo sick of jeans.

I can't wait to hear what you all think of the £1.99 dresses when they arrive.

Thanks for the inspiration (and links!!)

MadameChinLegs · 15/03/2012 16:39

Just been into H&M, and picked up a lovely long v-neck cardigan in grey (£7), lovely on. ALso got a long jumper type dress with little pockets at the bottom in navy blue (£7), its very soft on the outside, little scratchy on the arms, but excellent fit and a bit of a bargain. Look on the website, and not on there, but our local H&M has a bit of a sale on so yours might too.

FrillyMilly · 16/03/2012 19:48

I think denim jacket, summer dress and converse would go. I think a bare leg would be necessary though.

cabbageandbeans · 16/03/2012 20:22

yeah, but in spring you can wear leggings to ankle or capri and I think that will look cool too.

MummysPuppet · 16/03/2012 20:49

I nearly gave up jeans too, then I found Matalan's Be Beau 70s style flare jeans which have revolutionised my jeans wearing. They go up to a proper place, so hold in my mum tum and don't fall down, so no constant adjustment, but also with a nice bit of stretch around the legs. No more muffin top for me! I too have the problem of being pear shaped, so anything that will get past my (ample) legs and arse hangs off my waist. I bought two pairs in the sale for £14 total. Full price I think they were £20 each, so not earth shattering.
