Anyone still "princessing?"

I have been reading .....

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/1156122-Project-Princess/AllOnOnePage

Fab thread and so inspiring!

Is anyone still doing this?

I am trying to add in the good habits from the thread into my life and wondered how well all the posters had done in their changes?

Kitty I've got a PhD in biochem Blush

some stuff really does work. That glaucoma med stuff had the lvoely side effect of luscious lashes

bigkidsdidit · 27/10/2011 12:28

thanks Meglet! Will follow your routine this weekend :)

architien · 27/10/2011 12:56

BigKids & Kitty may i ask you something? At the risk of sounding daft (and I'm willing to risk it to save a few £££s) do you think that argan oil (ie Moroccan Oil) has similar properties to olive oil given that they're from the same family? How does the Moroccan Oil benefit the hair on a chemical basis? Any ideas? I'd like to be sure that is worth the money and I'd be grateful for any ideas on the matter you may have?

perceptionreality · 27/10/2011 12:59

Moroccan Oil is fab, not least because it never makes your hair look greasy. It's a worthwhile investment architien.

perceptionreality · 27/10/2011 13:01

I use loreal casting creme gloss and it looks exactly the same as when I was paying over £40 just for the dye part of the treatment. It makes hair look really shiny (mine lost some of it's shine after having the children)

perceptionreality · 27/10/2011 13:01

In the salon, I meant to say.

bigkidsdidit · 27/10/2011 13:13

could look it up for you architien

Probably is a difference - I know olive oil makes hair horrid. Oils do have all sorts of different properties for example you use different ones in low heat cooking to wok cooking as some smoke more at high temps

The girl with teh very shiniest hair I ever met was Bolivian, she told me she used to buy an avocado, wait till it was v v ripe then squish it on her head for half an hour!

BlackSwan · 27/10/2011 13:54

Hi Pootles - the lash serums range in price & effectiveness - also some have side effects so you have to read about them first. I have used Talika lipocils, which is around 20 pounds and grew my lashes a little, not dramatically, though I really only noticed the difference when using mascara. Enormous lash is very expensive at around 70 pounds, but definitely gave me longer lashes. Rapid Lash is around 30 pounds & I'm thinking of trying that.
If you live in the US you can get Latisse, which is the real deal - you need a prescription though. Unfortunately you can't get it in the UK. I won't say more on lash serums, you should make your own decision as to whether it's a reasonable investment of your time/money.

For all those pooh poohing the princessy nature of this project, if you read the previous thread...you will understand that it started in anticipation of the Royal wedding. Call it what you will, it is a spur to action for self-improvement. Anyone who objects to the term 'princessing' on moral grounds will be considered to be making excuses for sitting on their backsides while the rest of us pluck, tweeze and exfoliate ourselves to oblivion.

BlackSwan · 27/10/2011 14:24

perceptionreality - you asked which whitening system I use - I used trays with optident 15% whitening gel. It really works. I haven't tried 'in chair' whitening as I have heard it can leave you with tooth sensitivity. With the trays you're in control over how white you go and in the long run it's more cost-effective.

On the subject of feet: one product I found out about recently (on MN) & would highly recommend, is Flexitol - an exfoliating cream/callous remover for feet. Super cheap & available at boots.

Also using OPI's Avoplex nail oil on my hands, my cuticles are wretched at the moment. Any recommendations for nail conditioners?

Hair oil is an absolute godsend. Using Kerastase Elixer Ultime... I have a tiny bottle bought for travel, but it really lasts. Shu Uemura also do a wonderful hair oil. All the hair product companies seem to be coming out with one since Morrocan oil made a killing... I'm sure they're all pretty good - but absolutely no question about it, it's very different to putting olive oil in your hair. Olive oil won't be absorbed & will leave you with a greasy mess.

perceptionreality · 27/10/2011 15:56

Thanks BlackSwan, I'm going to try that - I usually use a whiening toothpaste but I would say it is best for maintenance. For nails I would also recommend Nailtiques stuff, but I'm not sure how easy it is to find. Their base coats have helped to recover my nails which were wrecked by acrylics.

Pootles2010 · 27/10/2011 16:18

Ok thanks - that all sounds a bit expensive, I think I will focus on starting to use the stuff I already have (piles of moisturiser, scrubs etc).

ChooChooWowWow · 27/10/2011 16:27

Oooh I'm in.
Can anyone talk me through the hair oil thing please. What's best to use, where to get and what does it do.

Re the eyelash serum. I have been using Rapidlash. My lashes are really long and very thick after a month of using it each night. It really does work. I bought it from Amazon as slightly cheaper than Boots.

noddyholder · 27/10/2011 16:29

Rapidlash is amazing!

ChooChooWowWow · 27/10/2011 16:41

noddy It's the best thing I have bought because of MN. No regrets there
unlike the bloody babyliss big hair

TheGrassIsJewelled · 27/10/2011 16:56

I'm in, just not the booze bit - I don't drink much, and only wine, but I like need it.
Will start tomorrow - have made appt for fringe trim and mani. Dd is being babysat so I can, ahem, work on myself.

blobtobetter · 27/10/2011 18:08

Just ordered some Crest Whitestrips as a girl at work got some and her teeth are much whiter now. Love eBay!

Hello! Can I please join you? Bit of a lurker on this topic but have also received some good help on S&B before.

I gave birth in August and turn 30 on New Years Eve; I quit smoking fully when I found out I was pregnant. Feel that a routine like this will be great for me as I think I will have to try harder to look good in my 30s compared to my 20s (where I just abused my body in the name of having fun really)

I have just started tooth whitening, am sat with the stupid annoying trays in at the moment. I've never done it before so I'm interested in the result. It better be worth the £280 I've just spent (If you feel like I've been ripped off please keep it to yourself, I'd rather not know!)

Going to try some intensive moisturising once dd is in bed. It is a bit overwhelming looking at all the points mentioned, but I will try to add a couple at a time and see how many I can do. I've got a wedding to go to on 17th December with lots of friends there so am looking forward to feeling 'princessy' for that.

BlackSwan · 27/10/2011 20:55

Hello everyone, welcome all newcomers!

Congrats on your new baby sunshineoutdoors, 30 is a snap, 35 hurts a bit though. I think you will be really pleased with the whitening - you will have the trays forever (if, unlike me, you don't accidentally chuck them) & it doesn't take may treatments to see a difference.

Rapidlash on for the first application tonight. Noddy & choochoo, so glad you are happy with the results, makes me hopeful.

chipandbiff · 27/10/2011 22:16

Use anti-aging face cream -any you can suggest?ive got one from the sanctury
Intensive nail care -how?what products?i didnt have nails till a year ago
eye cream-again any suggestions on product?

beatenbyayellowzombie · 27/10/2011 22:41

Can I join too please?

I've just started a routine for November which means no

dairy
alcohol
sugar or
carbs after 6pm

plus:
Bikram yoga once a week
gym 3 - 4 times a week

I'm going to include a weekly manicure because I bite my nails and skin quite a little bit and it's the only way I can manage.

Hair oil - I've never tried it. What does it actually do?

Lash oil thing - never heard of it! Does it make short, thin lashes lusciously long?

I've just bought E45 cream to try out as a cheap face moisturiser. Am I mad?

I love the idea of £1 a day (and a fine for non-gym attendance) to have a little night out or a new top at the end of it.

Cheese people have been recommending Crest White Stripes for teeth whitening, which I'm going to try. I also use Garnier face mask daily in the shower which I actually use as a face scrub. It's cheap but I really like it.

Cheeseandseveredfingersarnie · 27/10/2011 23:04

thanksSmile
i think i need to give up cut down on tea.Shock

sunshineoutdoors · 28/10/2011 04:58

Thanks blackswan, I'm glad to hear I should get a good result on the whitening.

3 pints of water and I have been to the loo loads tonight (up feeding dd now). Does the need to wee every 5 minutes go away once your body gets used to extra water intake or is it just a side effect to deal with?

Also interested in the hair oil. I used to use v05 hot oil years ago and remember it being good. Would something that cheap work? (not sure you can even get it anymore) or do I need to get the Moroccan oil? How do you use it?

vjg13 · 28/10/2011 07:57

I'm going to try to do most of the list. I always buy expensive products and then use them in a hit and miss way. I've used 'white stripes' and found them good but did get a kind of jangly pain.

Can I recommend an epilator, especially for under arm hair. It is painful initially but does give a great result. Also using eyelash dye once a month or so following on from Rapid Lash use which DOES work. Smile

iloveeverton · 28/10/2011 09:06

Hi everyone

Yesterday I- exfoliated and moisturiser
Used rapid lash
Ran 7km.
Used loreal mystic oil on my hair after I had rinsed it for 2 mins

in cold water
Drank water not tea in work

Today I'm going to dig out the teeth whitening kit
