I really don't like my wedding dress - help me find something else, please. :(

Hi,

I'm getting married in less than two weeks time :D to my lovely gorgeous fiancé.

It's the 2nd time for both of us and we are having a registry office service and then onto a friends gastro pub for the do.

I really struggled with what to wear and ended up getting a candy Anthony 1950s dress. Now it's made, I really don't like it, well actually I just think its wrong, and I think it's going to make me look like a cute little girl, and I want to look like a stylish woman.
I'm only 5ft tall, but I'm 37. My fiancé will look gorgeous in a suit from Richard James he had made.
I didn't sleep at all last night looking at off the peg options. But I'm so confused. I've gorgeous bright blue louboutin shoes so needs to go with them. And I guess can't be long as no time for any alterations.

Zthank you so much, please help me x x

I think the current dress is lovely. But in the same position I would go to the vintage wedding dress company and buy something fabulous. Assume you can sell the existing one for a good price!

I can easily change my hair, makeup, flowers etc...

I'm going to pop to westfield and look at the bib dresses x x

Ok, my last ideas:

Amanda Wakeley

50s vintage

I think you should go shopping and try some things on. You WILL find your dress!

Then come back and post some pics Wink

I might be talking rubbish here....

Just trying to think how you could get your CA dress to work

Replace blue skirt and sash that you dislike ( as verity suggested)

Get a simple shrug ( like om the CA website, black and White photo)

Wear your hair down . It's beautiful but I'm not sure the style goes with th dress

Return the shoes ( assuming they are new) or sell on eBay

Have a structured , more dramatic bouquet of no White flowers, rather than a posey

What about this from you Coast link - very Mad Men and gorgeous, I bet you would look fantastic in this

In my mind's eye, I think this Biba one shortened would be amazing.

Tethers - Agree it's beautiful. But not sure how it would look on someone who is 5ft tall. Wouldn't the sleeves be horribly long too?

Report
TethersEnd · 25/04/2011 12:22

Agree, it would need shortening. Perhaps even to a mini.

Trying on is key Wink

Spamm - that is very elegant and sophisticated. Love it.

Oooh love that Biba dress!

FWIW, I think you look stunning and the dress looks stunning.

Just so there is no confusion: the dress itself is strapless, isn't it, so the top that you see in the "hair" photos is not the top to the dress?

But whatever we think, you need to be comfortable.

Here is a Candy Anthony dress "in action" Wink during a wedding: <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=homepage.mac.com/superlucky/Photos/di.jpg&imgrefurl=chuckpalahniuk.net/forum/1000026/chuck-chicks-let%25C2%25B4s-talk-wedding-dresses&usg=__HUh4vsCXNYh-yKfimjJTyRc0Hj0=&h=800&w=500&sz=388&hl=en&start=89&sig2=1Q5h_pJjD1jhiD89i35R4A&zoom=1&tbnid=XS_OW2fdLS3YhM:&tbnh=115&tbnw=73&ei=cVu1TZLNNMOq8AOK-ZjRAQ&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dfifties%2Bwedding%2Bdress%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26sa%3DG%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-GB:official%26biw%3D1366%26bih%3D577%26site%3Dsearch%26tbm%3Disch0%2C1098&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=289&vpy=194&dur=352&hovh=117&hovw=73&tx=71&ty=270&page=4&ndsp=32&ved=1t:429,r:1,s:89&biw=1366&bih=577" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">picture Looks good with the stong flowers picking up the colour theme.

The shops up here in Glasgow are open: I think the only tw days they shut now are Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Can't say for sure in England.

I had a dress made for my wedding, went to pick it up 3 days before the day - was a disaster! Had to rush around and find myself a new one AND get it altered. I can confirm it is doable :) And I loved my new dress and would have been so unhappy in the original one.

Someone posted this the other day - so beautiful - made me want to get married again so I could have this dress! It would suit your hair perfectly. Stockist in London

I also had my full-length dress shortened to below the knee, btw - the shop was shocked that I wanted to do it, but it looked beautiful in the end.

I love candy Anthony dresses but I do think it's one of those which women love and most men don't really "get" {a bit Carrie bradshaw!} but i think you gorgeous in yours!

I was also going to suggest biba bridal or bhldn for alternatives? I posted about them on my blog not long ago, am a huge fan of both and actually this post below was aimed at last minute dresses so might be of help?

I like the CA dress.

Have not decided on the petticoat yet....try to swap for a less frou frou one maybe ? You need a bit of a petticoat though.

Anyway, I think it is fun, and womanly and cool.

I'd stick with it.

Love this - obviously you'd have to get it sent to you by private jet to make sure you had time for alterations / to send it back.

I agree with KristinaM, maybe try to change the things you don't like about your CM dress first?

Also, I'm not keen on your hair (sorry!)

That jesus dress is amazing!!!!!!!!!!! Wow!

If you're not happy with your dress then you have to change it. Personally I'd pick the dress before the shoes and not the dress around the shoes. Return, ditch or keep the shoes for something else and focus on the dress.

Good luck....can't wait to see what you find. Some beautiful ideas on here ,,,
