Seen various comments on here along the lines of burn it and hideous.

What is so bad about them. I always think cardigans can risk looking mumsy but think these look nice and go with anything from dresses to jeans.

Someone enlighten me...

Oh no! Are they bad? Will nervously watch this thread...

GlynistheMenace · 03/02/2011 08:11

*hands up

I LOVE them too

are they perhaps berated by people with lovely tummies who know some people (like me, not assuming about anyone else) wear them to disguise the fact they don't have one?

tough shit if that's the case

Mirabelle77 · 03/02/2011 08:13

I did see Jenny Eclair going on about Per Una waterfall cardis the other day, joking that it's 50+ wear.

I'm 33 I usually go for a boyfriend cardi , dress and leggings , but have owned waterfall cardis in the past. I did work in fashion before ds so have worn most things.

onadietcokebreak · 03/02/2011 08:13

I heart mine too.

Mumbybumby · 03/02/2011 08:15

I love them too! They've been a godsend through this pg as all other cardis look daft. No doubt they'll be great at hiding the post baby jelly belly too! :)

brimfull · 03/02/2011 08:15

I think they look a mess, don't flatter anyone.
And they supposedly disguise big tummys.
Look shit with big tits.

Also hate asymetrical hemlines if you give a damn Smile

lubeybooby · 03/02/2011 08:17

I'm 30, I have waterfall and boyfriend cardis. As a size 18 I bloody need them or I look like a bubble on legs.

With 16lb lost so far I'm on the way back to a 14/16 when hopefully I will be more the shape that I like and not feel the need to hide in one... but as it is at the moment I neeeeeed them!

I will add they are not flouncy per una types just plain and boring. And from new look so can't be aimed at 55+ surely????

lackaDaisy · 03/02/2011 08:20

I am top heavy (very) and waterfall cardis look daft on me and make me look way fatter than I am. So I steer clear of them. But I don't see anything wrong with them per se...just not for me.

Having said that, my mum has about 20 waterfall cardis...she's 55 Grin

BitOfFun · 03/02/2011 08:22

They are a bit Liza Minelli.

GlynistheGimmer · 03/02/2011 08:27

if they are soooo 55+ how come you can buy a myriad of scarf-type-thingies made of the ruffley bit only? in River Island...so there...

huh? huh?

TheProvincialLady · 03/02/2011 08:31

Could it be because they are ugly, shapeless, unflattering, dull and generally worn by the over 50s?

WhatsWrongWithYou · 03/02/2011 08:31

I'm a slim size 10/12 with big boobs and they look hideous on me.

They have a size-doubling effect imo, and those ones that go up at the back give a nice frame to my arse in a way I'd rather it wasn't framed.

Shortish and fitted with top buttons straining open is the way for me.

noddyholder · 03/02/2011 08:35

They make everyone look fat and round.I am trying to minimise bulk around the middle! They are so county town middley schmiddley I hate them.Just get a really nice long slim cardigan

Undutchable · 03/02/2011 08:35

"a bit Liza minelli" Grin

noddyholder · 03/02/2011 08:36

Put down the ruffley scarves too! We are women not clowns

Buda · 03/02/2011 08:37

I love them too. But am 46 so almost 50 I suppose. Have a gray one, a black one and a purple one, a navy one and a white one. Am a size 20.

If I was a trim size 10 or 12 I suspect I wouldn't need them. But I do at the moment.

mum295 · 03/02/2011 08:38

IMO, they are a good option for maternity wear/BF. I've got one which I wore at the weekend with a dress. I'm currently pg with a little bump and I thought it looked flattering - DH and others told me I looked good anyway. I do have a small chest though, maybe that's the key.

Am only in my mid-30s.

ariane5 · 03/02/2011 08:40

im 28 and a size 8-10 and have a couple i think they look quite nice!

GlynistheGimmer · 03/02/2011 08:40

noddyholder

you're obviously not short and dumpy like me then....

me in a long cardigan looks like a little barrel Sad

PuppyMonkey · 03/02/2011 08:43

It seems to me that there's not a single item of clothing you could mention that won't at some point generate a sarky, snurky, snidey comment on MN. Best just to wear what you bleddy well like.

noddyholder · 03/02/2011 08:43

A long fine cardigan can be flattering left open It is just like a coat

FluffyMummy123 · 03/02/2011 08:46

It's the passion that 50 something women have for them that sounds their death knell IMO

I hate asymmetric hems.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 03/02/2011 08:47

Depends on your shape. I'm hourglass-shaped, so anything straight down makes me look bigger than I am and shapeless. Hence the short, curvy shape being more flattering on me.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 03/02/2011 08:47

I'm 47 btw, and won't touch them with a bargepole.

noddyholder · 03/02/2011 08:48

The bus into town after 10 o'clock is awash with them!
