Seen various comments on here along the lines of burn it and hideous.

What is so bad about them. I always think cardigans can risk looking mumsy but think these look nice and go with anything from dresses to jeans.

Someone enlighten me...

I hate them, but I own two and have been wearing them all the time recently Blush I am 17 weeks pg and they are the best thing for hiding my growing bump at work Grin All that fabric flapping around means no-one pays attention to what my tummy is doing.

ImFab · 03/02/2011 19:19

I have 4 of them Grin.

What is a boyfriend cardigan?

OgreTripletsAreSoCute · 03/02/2011 19:26

I think there are several different types. The ones with long drapey fronts look hideous on me (size 16, pearshaped) as they completely drown out my waist (one of my few good features). Whereas I think the Wallis one would be more flattering to the waist, but catastrophic enlarging effect on my large hips and thighs.

LargeGlassofVino · 03/02/2011 19:27

Two words: Carol Jackson.

What's wrong with heeled boots and bootcut jeans though?? Not that I wear those of course, ahem, just interested......

itssnotfunny · 03/02/2011 19:29

a bf cardi is a right long one isnt it?

Woodlands · 03/02/2011 19:35

i like them as am breastfeeding - easy access and gives me something to cover up a bit with. It's all about the cardies for me this winter.

purpleknittingmum · 03/02/2011 19:43

I don't have a waterfall cardigan but I like the look of them, have a knitting pattern in a magazine for one I was thinking of doing!

pointylug · 03/02/2011 20:46

I've got one because I liked the pattern of it.

Must admit, it is not a particularly flattering garment.

And my 80 year old mil admired it.

Dozer · 03/02/2011 20:54

"And my 80 year old mil admired it." Grin

Is never good when someone elderly (unless exceptionally stylish) or whose style you don't admire compliments an item! I have got rid of a fair few what I thought were OK floral work tops following compliments from frumpy colleagues (realised I was dressing like them)!

busyboysmum · 03/02/2011 20:55

I find them really hard to wear - are these the ones that don't button up and flow away? I find them pointless for warmth and being a bit of a comfort guru, when I have worn them for work, I have tied them round my middle for the cycle home!! (under my coat I hasten to add)

If they had a tie at the neck they would probably be a bit better. I think they look nice on other people but they are not for me.

Smile
Dozer · 03/02/2011 20:55

But I think there's a rule that we can get away with anything while pregnant / breastfeeding!

stressheaderic · 03/02/2011 20:55

I hate them.
But they I have what you might call a 'boyish' figure, and prefer short fitted double breasted military-style jackets and pencil skirt, so prob not your typical waterfall wearer.

I practically live in the things as I am big of arse and the long ones do a sterling job of disguising that Grin

BUT busyboysmum is right about the need to get them out the way when cycling. I cycle a lot and on several occasions I have got the flowy ends of the damn things caught in the wheels and slowly ground to a halt in the road.

JemimaMop · 03/02/2011 21:39

"Classic Trinny and Suze school-run look for the clueless.

Waterfall cardi
tunic top
chunky beads
bootleg jeans
heeled boots

Everso dull, but marginally better than tracksuit trousers and trainers"

Have you been spying me taking the DC to school again? Grin

toddlerwrangler · 03/02/2011 21:52

Right, I tolerate a lot of shit from this place, but BACK THE FUCK OFF TEH WATERFALL CARDIGANS.

I loooovvvveee them. I am 29 and a size 12. They look fab (if you try and disagree I will hunt you down and kill you) with clinch belts and make my tiny boobs look big as well. I have four, ear them for casual and formal work purposes as well as when not at work.

So there. I have spoken. Be gone non-belivers.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 03/02/2011 22:02

I have two long ones and I love them.

I'm not keen on the ones that are mainly waist length with a little wobbly bit hanging down in front. They just frame your arse which in my case wouldn't be a good thing.

I am 33 weeks pregnant and they smooth everything out and keep my bump warm without me having to wear a cardigan that is huge on the shoulders.
I am on the lookout for some nice lightweight ones to wear while BFing this summer.

Gabyrale · 03/02/2011 22:22

@ Glynistheglimmer - I'm presuming a boyfriend cardigan is just a regular cardy, a bit oversized so it looks like you've just borrowed your boyfriends...

HelenBa · 03/02/2011 22:35

I really don't like them, they look all messy to me - but I love cardigans usually

TabithaSilver · 03/02/2011 22:41

I think they're something your mum would wear. Your OAP mum. They're not hateful. Just not particularly flattering.

pointylug · 03/02/2011 22:44

Now, I really do not like the boyfriend cardi

PotPourri · 03/02/2011 23:11

I think they are nice - and I am a fashion icon imo.

rathlin · 03/02/2011 23:12

Back off on the boot leg jeans - they are a life saver for the pear shaped amongst us. Anyone pear shaped or big of leg in general squeezed into skinny jeans is clueless. Boyfriend cardigans (if they are the long slim ones I am thinking of) again look daft on anyone not tall and slim. Wearing a long cardigan just cuts you off if you are not 5'8 or taller. ps I also have square heeled boots which I love - only thing I can go for walks in at lunchtime without having to change clothes and shoes. Don't give a hoot about waterfall cardies.

pinkcushion · 03/02/2011 23:31

Bootlegs are a crime - woman wear them too short, especially with heeled boots - yuck! - the hem goes all sticky outy at the back. Imo straight legs are more flattering - bootlegs make thighs appear to be huge!

tattiemum · 03/02/2011 23:40

Oh dear, I bought a waterfall cardigan, and two tops with the same sort of waterfall hem? thing today, and I thought they looked very nice Confused Nobody who knows me expects me to be fashionable though, so it doesn't matter Smile
