Seen various comments on here along the lines of burn it and hideous.

What is so bad about them. I always think cardigans can risk looking mumsy but think these look nice and go with anything from dresses to jeans.

Someone enlighten me...

Wearing mine today in spite of the nay-sayers.

5DollarShake · 04/02/2011 14:24

I don't think they're naff per se - I just think they make everyone who wears them look pear-shaped, with saddle-bag thighs.

SecondMrsS · 04/02/2011 15:12

I wear a black one to 'dress down' dresses at work so that i can go from office to bar...

I've had loads of compliments on my style so wot be hanging anytime soon. Am 41 but look 30 Grin

SecondMrsS · 04/02/2011 15:12

won't be changing

not 'wot be hanging' Confused

civil · 04/02/2011 15:24

Where we live they are very popular with skinny, stylish mummy yummies - so they must be acceptable.

However, dh hates them for some reason.
I like them because I associate them with beautiful, glamourous women.

I hadn't realised they were considered frumpy,

redrollers · 04/02/2011 15:40

ok, can somebody link. I have no idea what you are all talking about
waterfall
and
boyfriend please

I don't usually stray into Style and Beauty, but it's on discussions of the day

redrollers · 04/02/2011 16:32

ok, got it now

TheSmallPrint · 04/02/2011 16:40

What is a waterfall cardi?

mippy · 04/02/2011 17:06

Boyfriend cardis don't really work if you're the same height and weight as an average man. They just look like you bought the wrong size.

Buda · 04/02/2011 17:08

civil - I always knew I liked you. They are associated with beautiful, glamorous women. This beautiful, glamorous woman still like hers!

LadyOfTheManor · 04/02/2011 17:47

What's a waterfall cardigan? I can't see a link.

Buda · 04/02/2011 17:49

Lots here

LadyOfTheManor · 04/02/2011 17:50

Oh, long at the front and ill fitted?

My mother wears them.

BerylStreep · 04/02/2011 18:00

Cardi swap shop now up and running. I have found a new, loving home for mine.

biryani · 04/02/2011 18:01

Don't find them particularly flattering as I'm quite short and don't like ruffly bits. Disguise a multitude of sins, so can see the point!!

NacMacFeegle · 04/02/2011 20:46

I love mine. I love all cardigans. Cardigans are fabulous.

I am not fashionable though, currently rocking a Hattie Jaques in a henna/ Claire's Accessories event horizon. It's a good look on me.

I am fat. No clothes make me look thin, because of the fat, see. So I wear clothes that make me happy, or make me laugh, or make me go, ooh, that's a nice texture. I always look fine. IMO, which is the important thing I expect. Grin

Curiousmama · 04/02/2011 20:54

OOOO Buda thanks for that link, I must get me one of these Grin

I have a waterfall, it's charcoal grey and all who see me in it say it's lovely so there Wink I'm an hourglass size 14.

Pictish · 04/02/2011 20:57

I think the idea is that they are supposed skim past those 'problem areas' - but honestly I find they simply accentuate thick thighs and a doughy bum.

The most unflattering frumpy item ever. And I have tried!

DesertOasis · 05/02/2011 05:48

Just chucked mine in the bin!!!
Who wants to be thought of as 50+ and fat, not me

Buda · 05/02/2011 08:18

Curiousmama - LOL! That is funny!

whomovedmychocolate · 05/02/2011 08:35

I thought waterfall cardigans were for ladies with poor pelvic floor muscles Grin

Seriously though if look as if you have been carrying really heavy stuff in your pockets or had two small children tugging at your side for six weeks. In my case, that may be the case but I wouldn't buy a new cardie that looked like that.

Bonsoir · 05/02/2011 08:37

My aunt, a slim and neat, but no longer firm or flesh-baring, 78 year old, looks lovely in her waterfall cardigan.

Buda · 05/02/2011 09:13

Actually thinking about it my waterfall cardis are made of jersey not knitted. I think knitted would def have potential to be aging.

We have friends coming over for dinner tonight and I will be wearing leggings, black short sleeved t-shirt dress/tunic and a purple waterfall-style jersey cardi. I think.

showmethemummy · 05/02/2011 10:44

is there such a thing as a 'flattering cardigan' when you are a) short, and b)top-heavy and overweight?
If there is I haven't found it yet.

MappandLucia · 05/02/2011 11:12

They are the definition of mumsy.

Both my mum and mil wear them
