Seen various comments on here along the lines of burn it and hideous.

What is so bad about them. I always think cardigans can risk looking mumsy but think these look nice and go with anything from dresses to jeans.

Someone enlighten me...

Oh another fashion travesty I didn't realise I had committed. Admittedly, I think my ones are the ones you can tie at the front. I had to google it, and was worried that my favourite cardigan would be one, but it isn't.

Cardigans are great for cold weather - and I don't think I care if others hate them.

southeastastra · 03/02/2011 09:10

suppose they're just out of fashion now - they were everywhere but fashion is like that anyway, like the gypsy skirty

Were they ever in fasion? I never saw them on the catwalk southeastastra, I think they were a hideous joke concieved by high street fashion buyers to flog naff knitwear.....

blurgh!

and I hate those revolting ruffle scarves too...yuk yuk yuk.

PuppyMonkey · 03/02/2011 09:36

Well I might go out and buy some new ones now just because of this thread. Smile

southeastastra · 03/02/2011 09:36

were gipsy skirts ever on the catwalk though? or jackets with michigan on them that were everywhere in the 90s

doesn't have to be on the catwalk to be fashion does it?

madammecholet · 03/02/2011 09:39

imo alot of high street fashion follows catwalk trends in some way or another...but not these foul cardi's.. :)

3gorgeousboys · 03/02/2011 09:44

puppymonkey spot on hun!

TigerseyeMum · 03/02/2011 09:51

I have a nice lemon yellow one Hmm I am a size 8-10 with smallish norks and am 5 foot 2, 37 years old.

I think I look OK in mine.

I have one and I absolutely adore it. Sometimes I tie it in a knot to make it cropped or belt it to give me a waist/look smarter.

I'm 33, size 10, slim hourglass (not large of nork or arse). And I'm short. I find it makes me look taller if I wear a darker top underneath it.

KikiJane · 03/02/2011 10:28

To be fair, though, I have never given a fuck about what other people think of what I'm wearing. I couldn't care less if something I'm wearing is considered 'naff'.

Better to wear what I want to wear than be a Boden clone, IMO.

Buda · 03/02/2011 10:33

Well bearing this thread in mind when I was getting dressed I put on black jeans, a plain black top and a boyfriend style Cardigan in purple! Must say I think a waterfall Cardigan would make me feel more dressed up.

clayre · 03/02/2011 10:38

I'm only 28 and am wearing one! I'm a size 6-8 and totally shapeless, I think I look okish in mine Blush

PuppyMonkey · 03/02/2011 11:01

Ooh, Buda, you're not wearing a boyfriend cardigan are you? Oh, how naffola - they're so frumpy.

GlynistheGimmer · 03/02/2011 11:13

wtf is a b/f cardigan?

glynis, gimmer by name gimmer by nature [sniffs air]

TrillianAstra · 03/02/2011 11:15

Wearing a thick one with ruffles if you are big sounds like it would make you look bigger.

I have thin ones - at least I think they are waterfall cardigans - long and drapey and they don't do up and are longer at the front than the back. Not ruffley though. And I'm not big or blessed-of-nork.

polyhymnia · 03/02/2011 11:23

Well, as a (more than) 50+, I really hate them! Look terrible on my big bust and broad shoulders. Like a ship in full sail! Also loathe asymmetric/'handkerchief' hems with a passion. They seem to be taking over M and S tops/tunics completely, with exceptin of Autograph and Limited Edition.

I'm all for people wearing whatever they feel good in, and am sure I must have seen some waterfall cardigans which suited the (presumably slender) wearers. Not for me though!

Think cardigans in general have a high frump potential, though do have two boyfriend cardigans which I quite like, over the right things and with skinny belts. DH hates those too, though.

PuppyMonkey · 03/02/2011 11:27

Ooh, poly, you're not wearing skinny belts are you? Oh, how naffola - they're so frumpy.

merrywidow · 03/02/2011 11:28

I stock them and they sell really well however I am a bit choosy when I select them as some are a bit flimsy and the colours can be vile puce pink dodgy.

well cut in a current season colour and good fabric they look good

Alouiseg · 03/02/2011 11:29

I have a black mohair one that looks terrible until I put a belt on over it. Only then does I actually "work"

polyhymnia · 03/02/2011 11:30

Puppymonkey - the skinny belts are the only skinny thing about me!!

coastgirl · 03/02/2011 11:35

I've just bought one! But I'm another pregnant lady who thinks it's quite flattering at the moment. So over 50 and/or pregnant then?

traceybath · 03/02/2011 11:51

They're ok when pregnant or good for discreet bf but not terribly flattering really.

All a bit 'hampstead bazaar' or whatever that droopy shop is called.

WotzNotNot · 03/02/2011 12:06

Good points : They keep you legs warm when you sit down and your bum warm when you stand up plus no buttons. I think they work with jeans and do look better with tailored trousers, but not great with skirts or dresses.

greentig3r · 03/02/2011 12:25

I like mine. I have massive norks but wear a belt to nip in waist, slightly open so it breaks up my top half.

My fave one is a blue that is about the same shade as my jeans, so makes me taller too.

Meh.
