If you go to ebay.co.uk and type in Babyliss Big Hair into 'search.

There are lots of babyliss big hair on there and some of the sellers will ship to the US.

Have got a memory blank, what type of plugs do you have in the US. Same as in the UK or different?

hopingforfour · 28/12/2010 05:09

I dont know! I guess I assumed they would be the same. Ours are either two prongs only, or two prongs and a neutral underneath.
Oh I will have to recheck ebay, because this is a must purchase for me.
I have already been converted to mooncup by MN, now I am hoping for big hair...what next? :)

MrsDingDongMerrily · 28/12/2010 09:42

We have a different voltage in Europe, 240v instead of 110v in the US so our appliances won't work there anyway unless they are dual voltage, which I doubt this would be.

alemci · 28/12/2010 11:44

yes i will hang on a bit. i have fine hair cut in a bob, not much longer than chin length. i will probably invest in one.

if i don't use it, my dd's will as they both have long hair.

TheNextMrsClaus · 28/12/2010 12:00

Hopingfor - I hate to rain on your picnic, but the Big Hair definitely isn't dual-voltage, so you won't be able to use it in the US at all. Moving to Europe is your only option!!

Rubena · 28/12/2010 13:01

you can get a step down voltage transformer if you want which is what I did with my single voltage straighteners as I sort of lived in 2 countries for about 18 months.
DH has fixed mine! Grin apparently there is a part in the motor (to do with the spinning bit) and it is just plastic which failed on mine but dh has reinforced it with a pin! very pleased Grin

hopingforfour · 28/12/2010 14:35

Are there no other brands that even compare?
Envy

alemci · 28/12/2010 18:04

i was fortunate enough to buy one today in Costco for £32. could not believe it, about 4 on the shelf and the box isn't pristine

however i have just taken it out and someone has used it and there is hair on it yuck,
should have checked the box. all the boxes looked like they had been opened.

TrollyDolly1 · 29/12/2010 13:35

I am so excited! I bought one today in Boots for £44. Then I raced home to try it out. I have very thick curly hair that I straighten, also, my hair could have done with a wash this morning but I am getting it done later on, so seemed no point.

15 mins later, I am the proud owner of goegeous, glossy, swishey hair. I love it!!

alemci · 29/12/2010 14:42

managed to change it and got one unopened in a battered box. There were 3 on the shelft. it was such a good price at £32 but haven't tried it yet.

flowerytaleofNewYork · 29/12/2010 14:59

V pleased with my Christmas pressie.

colie · 29/12/2010 16:41

i am so jealous of all you lucky people out there who have managed to source one!!

Wow at £32 Envy

alemci · 29/12/2010 17:17

i know, Costco can be really good for bargains. hope it lives up to its expectations after 2 trips to Watford and back.

PuppyMonkey · 29/12/2010 17:37

I got mine ages ago and wrapped it up for myself for Xmas. It's fantastic and much easier to use than I thought it would be. Love it. I was in Costco in derby the other day and they have them in still.

neepsntatties · 29/12/2010 22:29

I got one in boots too so they must have some stock in. I am excited to try it out tomorrow!

fin54 · 29/12/2010 22:36

Hi can anyone tell me if you can use this on dry hair or is it only on wet hair

AlexaMulberry · 29/12/2010 22:41

My mum got me this for Christmas, I didn't appreciate/know what it was until I came on here!

I've used it once so far but my hair is long so it takes awhile to get it sitting as perfectly as I'd like it to be.

nappydaysagain · 30/12/2010 08:14

Don't know if anyone is still looking for one but in the BHS Home Store in Giltbrook Retail Park, Notts (where IKEA is) they had a couple left for £35.

colie · 30/12/2010 13:25

Nappydaysagain - Thanks for the update. I am still looking but nowhere near me seems to have one.

If anyone finds some in Glasgow please let me know.

Rubena · 30/12/2010 13:41

You can get one on eBay still but I've noticed most have put their prices up on there also Shock

colie · 30/12/2010 16:26

Thanks Rubena, I have had a look on ebay but they looked as though the bid would end at a ridiculously high price.

I will just keep checking when I am out.

5DollarShake · 30/12/2010 17:02

My brother's got me this for Christmas, but we're not meeting up until the 8th. I'm dying to get my hands on it.

I've always been secretly disappointed by my GHDs as my hair is so thick and coarse that the end result using those is hardly what you could describe as even remotely swishy, so I have very high hopes for this, indeed. Grin

didldidi · 30/12/2010 17:13

fin - I have used mine on dry and wet and it works best on damp I would say. Also use a mousse/leave in spray

Rubena · 31/12/2010 08:56

colie, there are a couple on there for buy it now but they have hiked them to around £55-£60 Shock

TakeYourFunWhereYouFindIt · 31/12/2010 09:58

I love mine sooo much that I want one for my goddaughter's birthday (2 weeks time).

It works best on fairly damp hair (mine is longish, very thick and frizzy), small sections at a time. I use it with moroccan hair oil which seems to protect it.

I finally have swishy hair, without it being totally flat from GHDs (which I've barely used since buying this - just use them on my fringe and sometimes on a couple of bits along my parting).
