Hello oh Wise and Avid Ladies

A quick question if I may re J Brand sizing. I'm a tall size 10, slim bum & hips but bit of dreaded muffin top. Usually wear a 28 in jeans, but fitted a 27 when Gap still did them Angry. Any ideas what I should go for? Seen a couple of Outnet bargains... Not easy to get to a RL shop to try on from where I live.

Thanks a million Smile

hf128219 · 01/10/2010 18:28

I would say size down

Zembo · 01/10/2010 20:12

Tracey hope your DS1 is okay? and what a bummer re: no money for the parking! Same thing happened to me at the airport last week (although it wasn't raining).

Those cords will definitely be staying now that you've endorsed them Grin

cakey thanks for your kind comments. You're right about my DH, I think he probably would do anything for me. He's not one to show his feelings but has said in the past that he thinks I've 'rehabilitated' him. He really has had a bit of a crap life including the ultimate rejection (i.e. by his mum). Anyway enough about me and promise I won't mention TTC again until there's something to say.

Did you get your my-wardrobe boots today? Hope they're keepers.

happily really like those zara trousers, obviously not on a shorty like me, but lovely shape.

carciofi · 01/10/2010 20:22

Zembo, sorry your dh had such a sad time. He must be delighted he found you. The cords are lovely, I have them in black.

Tracey, hope your DS is ok.

Dolcee, have a great night and happy birthday to mini Dolcee.

What a horrible night. I am going to watch Paris and have a glass of wine.

notyummy · 01/10/2010 20:34

Wow Zembo, that is a back story! Well done to you got managing a complex situation with such good grace. Good luck!!

Tracey Sorry to hear about your DS and the stress involved. Having had several stressful times due to forgetting my purse I now have big bag of change in my glove compartment. It was dhs idea and I can only recommend it.

Right, we have a bottle of Gran Reserva open and Strictly beckons. Just a bit of filth with Californication first !

reallygrumpy · 01/10/2010 21:13

Hello all, I've been lurking but not posting for a while because I haven't been buying much recently. I'm still being indecisive about blossoming's Barbour but after getting soaked in the park today I need a coat that is stylish and waterproof. Currently I can do stylish (but only showerproof) or waterproof but decidedly unstylish.

And I'm still on the lookout for boots and am lusting after these but they're out of stock in my size Angry.

zembo thanks for sharing your story, I hope ttc goes well for you.

yangy how have you found having such a big gap between your DDs? I'm struggling to conceive DC2 and it'll be a gap of at least 3 1/2 yrs which is more than I wanted. I'd love to have 3 but don't think it's going to happen Sad

roary love the sound of your brogues, I've ordered some cropped trousers from boden and need some brogues to go with them

blossoming that's such a pain about your boots, I've got a pair of boots from jigsaw which are very similar to these which I've had for 2 years and they've lasted really well.

Right, must go and watch strictly!

roary · 01/10/2010 21:39

yangy you sound even more impressive now! I mean it. :) but then you fit in round here with the many impressive ladies!

grumpy funnily enough was considering those trousers to go with my brogues. So you will have to report.

Exhausted as 5 month old ds clearly starving and not sleeping well. He's six months next week but I've been feeling funny starting him on solids. Partly a bit sad but embarrassingly a bit lazy as life is so much easier without the hassle of it. I am ashamed to admit that! Especially as we did blw with dd. So am v v lazy mummy.

roary · 01/10/2010 21:42

Forgot to say poor Tracey's ds and what a tale zembo!

eshermummy · 01/10/2010 21:54

Hello all
Sorry have not had time to post much, have been lurking and wanting to comment on loads of things though....

Too much to catch up on but Zembo your dh must really love you to have agreed to another baby given his past history. He obv realises how much it means to you.

Blossoming - did you ask about Day Birger Star boots - I got them last year in brown and I think they are a really lovely, classic boot which goes with everything. I've just got mine out for their 2nd winter and I have found them to be v waterproof. I think they are amazingly good quality for the money.

Have any of you that bought these Belstaff biker boots in the NAP sale debuted them yet? I cut the labels off mine today (it was hooning it down and v muddy so thought they'd be sturdy enough to cope). Am having serious buyer's remorse (great term btw) Sad. They are really heavy and I need to undo the ankle buckle at least to get them on/off which is an awkward faff. Anyone interested in buying a once worn pair of size 37's??? Grin I think I am just going to treat them as very expensive wellies and just use them for my v muddy school run.

LOTS of shopping here but most of it has gone right back.
The bits that I am keeping are this blouse but in nude/oyster - I would like to find something similar but cheaper for everyday wear if anyone has any ideas? this scarf (I had been eyeing the brora version but this is much more wise) and some grey tweed shorts from H&M to wear with tights.

Am still hunting a chunky knitted cardy/coat thing - various have been purchased and then returned as not quite right.

Am off to check out the IO pegs. I ordered mango ponte peg from ASOS - loved the fabric and shape but not the tie waist. I think I want a trouser that is this shape but without the waist tie but in a soft (but substantial) jersey/ponte. Any ideas? Has anyone tried the zara slouchy joggers?

I actually ended up returning the manas boots that Twasever has too - felt a bit guilty about the (then) unworn Belstaffs but am now thinking I will get another chunky heeled ankle boot to wear with the elusive pegs.

eshermummy · 01/10/2010 22:04

Sorry Tracey - I should also have said your poor ds. I was actually thinking of you and your ds this week as dd2's nursery asked to "have a little word" with me on Monday about dd2's not very nice behaviour towards some of the other children ShockGrin

Cake - I went to a fashion show/shopping evening at local boutique this week and they had someone modelling one of those Butter London dresses - looked amazing on. You are actually ideal figure for it - tall/slim but can go bra-less and with good shoulders. Looked like you would need help with tying some of the permutation though, not sure my dh would be up to the challenge!

Everything - I really like kew scarves, think they are v good value. The tartan one I bought is very fine wool and huge - this is the brora one it has obviated the need for. Last year I bought a Kew scarf in wool with a deep orange and navy geometric-ish print on a grey background and I think it was my best buy of the season - I literally wore it every day.

I am having a little thing for plaid at the min - bought this (as yet unworn Blush) a few weeks ago. Ignore the dubious ASOS gymslip styling Hmm, I plan to wear with chunky ankle boots (when purchased) or brown knee highs.

Reallygrumpy - I was just out at a school event this evening in the tipping rain and another mum was wearing a most lovely waterproof coat. I know her vaguely to talk to (and she asked me about my coat last winter!) so am going to brazenly seek her out on Monday and ask her where hers is from. I hate asking people that sort of thing - seems a bit single white female but a good waterproof coat is simply too good a chance to pass up!

eshermummy · 01/10/2010 22:59

doh, forgot my links Blush

brora scarf

plaid skirt

LetThemEatCake · 01/10/2010 23:24

oh nooooo esher - I pulled my Belstaffs out today in readiness for the coming months and thought hmmmmm ... should I have? But quickly convinced myself that yes, of course I should have .. and now I read your post and am doubting my sense again. esp as I am (forgive me) loving the ease of my cheapo bikers - have been literally wearing every day (not today! braved the rain in Blochs!!) so easy to pull on, have got them in brown too and should really take them back but probably won't Blush ...and now I have the heavily studded edelmans as well .. argh, plus the LFA leather uggs .. it's all a bit silly really, how many ways are there to keep one's feet warm dry and reasonably stylish?

ah well.

am very tempted to give the Zara trousers a go in the absence of the IO pegs - AnyFucker rates them and she is sim height/ /build to me, and now happily too ... hmmm.

EIE sorry about dh, hope tomorrow dawns chirpily.

LetThemEatCake · 01/10/2010 23:29

scratch that - out of stock in my size in navy Angry

Night all.

Fleecy · 02/10/2010 00:27

esher I am loving tartan at the moment too and have dug out some old shorts to wear with chunky boots, thick tights and roll necks.

Did a quick Primark run this morning while at the shops to buy a gift for someone (any excuse...) and got a red brushed cotton plaid shirt, blouse for work, black lace tights, grey woolly tights, plain black tights, two sets of underwear, 5 other pairs of knickers (I accidentally typed knockers at first Grin), a rather wonderful cocktail ring and a pair of jeans. For £60.

Not sure about the jeans - they're a kind of faded khaki with a soft rose print on them. I like them and they fit well but they do remind me a bit of things I used to wear when I was a child. And I'm not sure if I'll be able to get over that or not Confused

DH out tonight with friends so better go to bed before the drunken 3am stumbling wakes me up... He is not quiet.

Zembo · 02/10/2010 06:18

Esher and Cake I've worn my Belstaff's a couple of times so far. I didn't find them heavy and wore all day when I went to see my school friend the other day. I suppose they are a bit of a faff to get on, but once they're on I think they look good. I think I'll get a lot of wear out of them. What's putting you off, is it just the faff of getting on or the actual way they look?

Really like the QAire stuff.

Getting my hair cut this am, will have both kids with me so it'll be a dry trim then!!!!

EIE sorry to hear you're having another blip. I really hope you can sort things out, you wouldn't believe the sh*t I've been through, but things have completely settled down. I totally believe 'you get what you give' in life and I've had to give A LOT incl agreeing to lettig DH's (then) moody teenage DS1 move in with us 3 weeks after we got married Shock.

Sunshine forecast here today. Have a good weekend everyone Smile

traceybath · 02/10/2010 10:54

Zembo - no wonder your DH loves you Grin

Esher - I am so used to the little chats from the teacher. Luckily we seem to be in a good phase at the moment.

In-laws arriving tonight for a few days - what fun Grin

So an evening of strictly I think.

Am wearing j brand skinnies today with brora breton and navy cashemere cardigan soon to be topped off with minx and mulberry bag - I am definitely a classic dresser albeit with a hint of the liz macdonalds at times.

Nice day here - ltec - what are you wearing tonight?

Oh and DH got an ipad this week - our very first apple product. Do like it very much especially as means I don't have to have it for xmas and may instead have the belstaff trailmasters Grin

traceybath · 02/10/2010 10:54

Oh and happy 1st birthday baby dolcee and have a lovely evening tonight Bloss!

Where's MrsJuan got to I wonder . . .

LetThemEatCake · 02/10/2010 11:02

Just a quick msg for dolce - hope you had a fab night with the girls last night and happy 1st birthday to your little lady!

LetThemEatCake · 02/10/2010 11:20

MarshaBrady · 02/10/2010 11:36

Happy first birthday to little dolce! Smile

vinvinoveritas · 02/10/2010 12:10

Hi everyone!

Sorry I have been awol. Veh good thread title Grin

I haven't caught up at all yet, sorry, happy birthday littledolce and happy belated birthday babycake!

Have had exams and also a friend from the US came over to visit which was great, I hadn't seen her since 2006! Did loads of stuff, got her terribly terribly drunk on beer, tequila and cocktails then she got home and found out she was pregnant Shock whoops

Haven't done any shopping for at least a month or so! Feel really weird! Have had a quarter life crisis and am freaking out as my return to work date is in 2 weeks and I don't want to go back anymore. I have kept putting the date back! I don't have a childcare place yet for DS and P isn't the best 'manny' out there..

Also having a footwear crisis- what to wear with jeans when it's cold and rainy, when you don't want to wear boots?
