Happy birthday baby Dolce and hi Vin - hope exams went well.

TwasEverThus · 02/10/2010 13:41

I have Steve Madden biker boots that I only wear if I'm going to be out for ages, 'cos they are just too much of a faff to put on for a quick school run / whatever. Too many buckles.
www.polyvore.com/steve_madden_biker_boots/thing?id=10672074

Have worn the Manas lots - soooo easy. I want some short cowboy-y boots though - is that wrong?

hellsbelles · 02/10/2010 14:08

just managed to catch up.

Tracey - poor Henry - though I suspect he will feel rather proud of his war wound at school on Monday. Very scary for you though

RG - I agree with Yang. I too have a much bigger gap than I would have liked or planned - 6 years! But it's been a joy. It may not work out as well as they get older but certainly now it's perfect for us (DS adores DD and will happily entertain her for ages - despite getting bashed by her and having lego demolished at regular intervals)

Zembo - goodness, what a lot DH has been through...you must feel like a wonderful calm haven after all that!

Love the skinnies and am very jealous that I missed them.

LTEC - three cheers for the contract extension - well done.

Bloss - both DS & DD had them. DS's too ages to go...DD's got absolutely huge - so we ended up having to pay a ridiculous amount for some cream that got rid of them in a month. But only did as it was constantly catching on her dresses and bleeding!

Dolcee & happily - beautiful outfits.

I've got slight buyers remorse about my biker boots. The Ash ones weren't as great in RL. Both pairs delivered to my office and there was unanimous approval of the Day Birger ones (which I know is the opposite of the votes on here!).

However they are wide at the top and give my surprisingly skinny calves a rather scrawny look. I was going to wait and decide but then got all impatient (I've been trying to find a pair for so long and these are almost right) and wore them out today so no chance to return. However they are supremely comfortable.

Fleecy · 02/10/2010 14:34

hells I liked both pairs anyway Grin

Hi vin good to see you! Loving the equal weight given to the back to work/childcare dilemma and boots problem!

twas I have some ankle cowboy boots and I wear them loads. They work beautifully with dresses and skinnies are are soooo comfy. I would never wear them with checks though!

Happy Birthday dolce's gorgeous DD

LetThemEatCake · 02/10/2010 15:05

helles I don't get it, does that mean that you are keeping both pairs or that you aren't as keen on the ones you 're keeping as the ones you;re returning? Confused

vino glad to hear from you and great that you had fun with your friend, all best for your exams!!

so these booties arrived today and are good. Not too high but just high enough to make my legs look ok, comfortable to walk in, work with both skirts and trousers. So that's all good.

But I need honest opinions on these ones please. Are they muttonous? the reason(s) I am having qualms:

a) don't want buyer's remorse and have been slightly scared by esher's Belstaff report .. if they end up being an expensive mistake, I don't want two such on my hands
b) the girl in the shop commented on how they were "so similar" to the ones I was already wearing. Those of you who are on FB will know the ones she meant. They were £15 at Primark Blush She couldn't believe it. Do I want to spend £250 on boots that aren't that dissimilar from £15 ones???

c) I bought the Primark ones in brown too, so that I could 'decide' when I got home. Was meant to take them back. Wearing shades of brown today, so of course decided to wear the Primark boots Blush. So that will be 3x studded ankle boots, plus Belstaffs for winter Blush

Please advise Confused

carciofi · 02/10/2010 15:06

RG, I am three years older than one brother and seven years older than the baby (who is 31!), we always got on great. Apparently I was a great help when my youngest brother was a baby, I thought he was a Tiny Tears doll come to life. Anyway, good luck with ttc.

DH said he would buy me a practical winter coat (he also told my red bag was awful but I am ignoring that comment), still can't decided between the North Face parka or the Barbour Cameron (or something else entirely) so would be interested to find out what coat your friend has, Esher. Lovely scarves, btw.

Tracey, your outfit sounds very nice.

Hells, comfort is key with shoes, for me anyway, maybe I am just old. :)

Hope you all have a good weekend.

carciofi · 02/10/2010 15:08

LTEC, I do like them though haven't seen your FB pics but if you are unsure, maybe you should return them. I have Belstaffs and they are comfortable, once I get the damn things on, that is.

carciofi · 02/10/2010 15:09

And hello to Vin.

eshermummy · 02/10/2010 15:19

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Babydolcee!

Fleecy - I love the sound of your Primarni haul. I can only bear to go at 9am midweek before it descends into chaos, will have to try and run in one day next week Wink

Zembo - I was wearing the Belstaffs over black skinnies which was ok but I actually think they'd be more comfy over leggings so will try that. I think my real issue is as Twas says I really can't be doing with the hassle of getting them on and off for the 25 min school run. Also the leather is quite stiff so am not sure they'd be great for driving in, although am hoping they will soften over time. I think I just prefer the look of ankle boots with skinnies atm.
So I have just ordered these in brown which I have tried in rl, the laces are fake, they have a side zip.

Helles - have been back through thread to check and I think I preferred the Day Birger boots too.

Today am wearing See by Chloe zipped ankle skinnies in a dark denim wash, low wedge black boots (Ash), long striped breton top and beige sleeveless cashmere waterfall front cardy thing (Gap). Washed and dried my hair this morning but used a new product in it to blow-dry and hair is all greasy now Angry so will have to wash again tomorrow. God how I hate having thin fine straight hair Sad. Am really p-eed off with hair atm - really want to get something amazing done to it like cutting a fringe in or having it really short but know i will regret it but am so not happy with it how it is Confused. Am in desperate need of colour touch-up too.

Tracey - have just seen that your ordered one pair of jeans in the Outnet denim event. Such restraint. I ordered TEN Blush although in my defence will only be keeping one or poss two if they are really good. I think I ordered muchos variations on the Fritzi jeans.

eshermummy · 02/10/2010 15:27

Cakeoid - honestly? I don't like the studded Edelmans. (Am off to check your FB page, more boots at £15 a pop? That I CAN do Grin)

Am glad you like the bootees, I love them - I dithered over the leopard version of same and now all sold out but am tempted to ask my sis to source for me in US. Will think on it.

Carciofi - will report back as soon as I have forced her to show me the inside label of her coat politely inquired as to its provenance.
Can you link to the NF coat you are considering please?

carciofi · 02/10/2010 15:37

Esher, you made me laugh re ordering 10 pairs of jeans! I am tempted to order another pair of James Jeans now that I realise I am actually a 29 and they are in stock.

LTEC, I prefer the Belstaffs and the leather uggs, I think. Though you can get away with studds!

Esher, thinking of the North Face Metropolis, NF artic parka, maybe this Barbour or the Cameron. In black.

carciofi · 02/10/2010 15:42

Esher, www.zappos.com is a great website if you can have them deliver to someone in the US.

TwasEverThus · 02/10/2010 15:43

Thank you Fleecy - I will go shopping!

LetThemEatCake · 02/10/2010 15:44

esher they are the ones in L's b'day album

carci go for the arctic parka!!

MarshaBrady · 02/10/2010 15:45

Bravo on 10 pairs. With you on the hair thing Esher. Mine is driving me crazy so have an Aveda app in a week or so. It was a month for an available spot on a Sat so it is overdue. Need highlights and cut, driving me nuts.

There are some home beauty people at ds' school who are starting to circle Grin, but I can't give up a lovely Aveda app for kitchen table! (even though they are nice and lovely etc etc)

RG I adore the nearly 5 year age gap. It is lovely, ds1 is protective and proud of ds2. Don't worry about the gap Smile.

hf128219 · 02/10/2010 16:12

Happy Birthday baby Dolcee

LTEC I don't like those boots either - too much going on. IMO!

Hello Vin

Tracey Just saw about ds - poor you, hope he is on the mend.

Very good night last night - what a hoot! One girl stripped down to her underwear as part of a game Shock What a great figure she had.

hellsbelles · 02/10/2010 16:21

ha ha - sorry for very unclear post. I am keeping the day birger ones (sorry can't find link as they have disappeared off site)...with slight remorse. The Ash ones are going back.

Coats - I have to admit I've never really liked barbour's (though I love Tracey's minx - not right for my shape alas) but after the rave reviews have got the Cameron now. I don't feel amazingly stylish in it but it is utterly fantastic in the rain. I am toasty, warm and the hood is perfect for keeping a dry head while pushing the pram.

I suspect you may all hate this but I got over my fear of 'non silver' bag hardware and ordered it a while back to match my burgandy boots. Having realised that matchy matchy isn't great on me - I still couldn't bear to send it back and I love it. It makes my normally drab grey/black outfits look sooooo much better.

blossoming · 02/10/2010 16:35

Hi everyone,
Happy birthday baby dolcee
Glad you had a good night HF.
carciofi, the Cameron wouldn't do for a Winter coat I don't think. It's fine for now, but yesterday in that appalling weather I was back in my unstylish Landsend Stadium Squall.
I went out last night with my mother's group. Wore the boden red and navy stripe top (the one I was meant to return, oops), under my black jacket and felt quite in control. (Am chair this year). A lady came to give a talk about her 26 years as an army nurse. Very interesting. Came home and told dh I was off to join the army. The looking smart, the discipline and the time-keeping really appeals!!

So this morning, DH was so despondent about missing out on the DayBirger boots, that he whisked us all off to Chester. In Russell & Bromley I found the perfect boots. They are an ankle version of the square toed brass ring knee length boots I've been wearing this week. Nubuck leather and almost black. They fit lovely under the bottom of my skinnies, and great for those who are slightly over the jeans tucked into boots look. I know, because of my original pair, that they are sturdy, warm and waterproof. These have a slightly lower heel, and therefore perfect for my life.

We then went into M&S, where he bought me this underwear set that I saw in Red magazine a while ago. Then we went out for lunch, and I had a great big glass of wine! Lovely. Was in such a good mood I didn't mind calling in on Mil on the way home.
Going to get ready for my meal out next.

Hope you're all having great days.

carciofi · 02/10/2010 16:38

Blossoming, glad you had such a nice day and the boots sound fab. Thanks, I'm taking the Cameron off the list. Think I will go with the Artic Parka, as recommended by LTEC!

Hells, I like the bag, unlike DH, I think Marc by Marc Jacobs bags are lovely!

eshermummy · 02/10/2010 16:47

Blossoming - sounds like you had a lovely day.
I am sorry about bleating on about how nice the day Birgers were last night - I must have missed the bit where you said they were unavailable. Still, the R&B ankleboots sound good. As I said above, I am a bit over the knee boots over jeans thing too and am preferring the look of ankle boots with skinnies.

Hells - I actually prefer gold hardware on bags (but I know I am in the minority here).

Am interested to hear that the Cameron not a winter coat - as I already have lots of padded/winter coats - what I need is a waterproof coat for the current mild but torrential downpours combo. What's the fit like on the Cameron?

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 02/10/2010 17:09

Hello I am sorry I haven't posted for a while I seem to be immersed in pregnancy/childbirth/christmas topics at the moment but before I buy a bag I can't afford and don't need what do you think of this oh wise ones.

LTEC sorry I don't like the boots however my disclaimer is I don't like studs on ANY piece of clothing so I am slightly biased.

blossoming sounds like you are having LOVELY day.

re: winter coats this seems to be being raved about

Happy Birthday to baby Dolce!

Welcome back Vino, I giggled at your drunken friend - I discovered I was pg just after a very lush weekend also.

Cake - the studded boots are cool but not £300 cool especially when you sound so enamoured of your primark bargain beauties.

Esher - 10 pairs of jeans!!! Hope the perfect pair were lurking in that parcel.

Glad you had a lovely day Bloss.

I have a bargainous afternoon. Teenage sister wanted some boots and has a 40% off Peacocks voucher. As I walked in door spied tan chunky heeled shoeboots exactly what I'd been mentally lusting after. £20 so with voucher £12! Bought a flat pair too and a sequinned beret - got change from £30.

Sister had no luck in Peacocks but got her the most delicious heeled lace up 'workboots' from Brantano for £35 so we all came away happy.

LetThemEatCake · 02/10/2010 20:24

bloss what a well deservedly lovely day. Enjoy the rest of it!

And what a foul night Shock. Bare legs, ha! Had many wardrobe issues tonight but am now on train in herringbone shorts over tights and bikers with loose slouchy black jumper with sequin embellishment on one shoulder. Being kept warm by addition of recently rediscovered rabbit fur

Kind of walking line between Marant and dogs dinner. C'est cool, oui?

Thanks for your thoughts on Edelman bikers. Will consider. Will likely keep Grin

hf128219 · 02/10/2010 20:31

bloss what was not to like about your day! How lovely.

LTEC Outfit sounds good. Have fun!

Currently cooking scallops, black pudding and bacon. Yum!
