Here's a corker.

Currently due to host Xmas day lunch for the in-laws and children. Adult DSD is working Xmas day (day shift)

DP asked the family for their consensus of what time they'd like me to serve lunch (I know, I'm fuming) and DSD has insisted everyone eats in the evening.

I've told DP I'll cook when it suits me and we always have lunch early afternoon.
I don't want to be cooking at 7:30 at night Xmas day and clearing up even later. MIL is now on her phone to DP telling me she'll cook nibbles all day to appease DSD.

I've told DP that DSD can have a plate of food left for her as it's her choice to work and MIl can eat when it served to her or else stay in her home. That's normal. Right?

Didnt you just say on another threat @Dollyparton3 that you’re not changing your plans?

Butterymuffin · 19/12/2020 18:28

While I feel bad for folk in Tier 4, there is a silver lining for someone in everything that happens, and I guess this is yours OP...

SendHelp30 · 19/12/2020 18:28

Oh god unless there’s another Dolly Parton? 😂😂😂 in which case- what a result for you!!

The older I get, the more I think that some problems just have a way of resolving themselves without you doing anything

LatentPhase · 20/12/2020 08:49

Hooray for you, OP! Enjoy your lovely Christmas without annoying guests!! Hope your DH is on washing up duty and you get to put your feet up. Wine

SandyY2K · 20/12/2020 18:44

I have a 20 year old DD. I would want us all to have the meal together. The issue is not about her being an adult and not a 5 year old, your DP should have let you know he was going to do this and discussed it first.

DD is not to blame IMO.

SandyY2K · 20/12/2020 18:51

I've just seen she finishes work at 3pm....in which case I see no reason to wait till 7pm and would actually say it's being served at 4pm...or better still call it all off in light of the government directive. That makes it easier all round.

If my DH took this decision without consultation.....then I'd leave him to cook himself...see how that goes down.

MeridianB · 20/12/2020 19:31

So happy this has worked in your favour, OP. Great outcome for you after such nonsense.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 21/12/2020 15:43

@rainallnight l couldn't agree with you more!! Merry Christmas OP!!

ThatchersGapingVag · 21/12/2020 16:57

So has SD relented op? I'm guessing she's staying home now?

Alacrity85 · 06/01/2021 08:45

I don't think you're being unfair at all. If you're going to the effort to cook for everyone and organise everything its fair you get to choose when it's served. It's not like your SD is going to go hungry, as you've said there will be leftovers.

If anyone has an issue with it i'd suggest they go find somewhere else to have Xmas lunch.
