We do camping us with little tents and camp fires. Its brilliant fun. I LOVE it.

Squirrel3 · 20/06/2006 16:44

I do camping in a huge tent with a electric hook-up so that I can have a heater, TV and an electric cool box! Grin

Hour and a half's not too bad, specially on the train, it takes us 2.5 hours to drive to the seaside from here. Haven't been on a train for years, might do at the end of August though if dsd comes on holiday with us because it'll be too much of a squash in the car with 5 of us

One of my brothers goes camping a lot, he loves it and he says I would too if I tried it. When I was single he was always asking me if I wanted to go but I really don't think it's for me

Guess you two are not watching the match tonight? No?? Thought not Grin

NotActuallyAMum · 20/06/2006 16:50

lol squirrrel - x posts Grin

That'd be me - "OK I'll go camping as long as we can have a TV/heater/blow-up mattress and a hotel on stand-by just in case" Grin

alligator · 20/06/2006 16:52

NAAM the trains round us are fab. In fact my sisters hired a car last time we were over and I went with them to the coast while dp took dss on the train. they were there 1 1/2 hours before us Shock

PMSL at Squirrel and the hair straighters. I'm lucky if I remember the hairbrush [grin[

NotActuallyAMum · 20/06/2006 17:00

I have missed it all again today......but have now caught up.

Congratulations to you Squirrel for the new job nad a very happy birthday to Lea xxx Lots of health and happiness to her.

As for camping ...love it. You have just got me thinking. Need to book a holiday. Have to be a imaginative though as now on own so will have to find someone to drag along.

Hi to all. Will be back x

Surfermum · 20/06/2006 21:33

Hello everyone? I'm still about but just trying not to come on here too much.

Well done on the job Squirrel! We're going to Cornwall camping too, shame you aren't there the first week of August, maybe I could have fixed your dss up with dsd. We took her camping at the weekend and she brought a couple of friends. Within 10 minutes of getting there they had hooked up with some boys. She's only 10!!!

BM aside, NAAM, how's it going? I think it's a good idea to take a friend for dsd when you go away. Dsd just had a ball camping with her two friends and I'm not sure I even saw her enough to speak to her! We could have done with some notice about the 2nd friend though, dh was 5 mins away from her house when she rang to ask (and the friend's bags were already packed).

NotActuallyAMum · 21/06/2006 09:05

reflection when I was single I went on holiday on my own twice - not abroad, just to my brother's caravan. I know not everyone would want to do it but I was fine. Hope you get something sorted

Hello surfermum That's awful about your dsd's 2nd friend 5 minutes notice?? I'm afraid I'd have said no!! Things are OK with me thank you, still finding it hard though. I so miss DP and I having time on our own. And this may sound strange but I miss having time just to myself too. Had a bit of a grumble at DP last night, I know it's not his fault but I do so much for him and his dd and what do they do for me?? Come to think of it though I don't do anything for myself either, but even if I wanted to I wouldn't have the time. GRRR!! That's my rant for today

How is everyone? It's a lovely sunny morning here, not for long though apparantly

Squirrel3 · 21/06/2006 09:48

Surfermum, but we will be in Cornwall the first week in August!!!!

We go on the 29th July and stay for two weeks!!

OOOOOooo! How will we recognise each other?

We will have to wear our NSC badges

OP posts:
Squirrel3 · 21/06/2006 10:21

Typical change in weather, my brother is having a party to celebrate getting married on Friday and I have bought a dress like this to wear to it but I think I might be too cold now. I might have to wear a hat scarf and thermals if this keeps up!

OP posts:
Squirrel3 · 21/06/2006 10:24

Oh poop, I can't link to the exact page!

Its a strappy gypsy style dress (knee length).

OP posts:
NotActuallyAMum · 21/06/2006 10:45

Typical isn't it squirrel? It may warm up a bit for the weekend though, fingers crossed. Gone dull here now. DP and I were soooooo lucky with the weather we had last week, still can't believe it

How are things with your DP and the work situation?

Squirrel3 · 21/06/2006 11:30

Funny you should ask that, we think dss1 slipped up last night and went out with his old 'scummy' mates (the ones that take drugs) and got a bit wasted, BM told us he went out with them last night and 'lo and behold' dp got a txt this morning from dss to tell him that he wouldn't be in work today because he "feels ill".

I feel so sad for dp, he has worked so hard at trying to get dss 'clean', he gave him a job (when no-one else would), tried to understand, listened to him, took him to the drug councellor appointments etc. Its a real kick in the teeth for dp, he is still keeping him on even though the work situation has changed and now it means that money would be dp's is going to pay dss wages. Ok, dp needs the help at work, but dp does pay him a good wage (better than he should) to give him the insentive to carry on with work.

The 'up-side' of it is dp was able to give ds a days work.

I don't know what will happen with dss1, I hope he doesn't go down that road again, his Mum will def throw him out and this time I don't think I can be as understanding about him living here again. I was last time, I spent ages talking to him about the drugs and how they were effecting him and his family, I was able to chat to him because of past experiences and the fact that I am not a blood relative, more of a friend. We were so proud of the way dss was turning his life around, I hope it was just a 'slip-up' and he stops it again.

OP posts:
NotActuallyAMum · 21/06/2006 11:43

Well I think you were an absolute saint for taking him in, and personally I wouldn't do it again. I'm all for giving everyone in life a chance regardless of what they've done wrong (well, with certain exceptions..) but if they then screw up again that would be it for me. Easier said than done though I know but it's not as if he's a child anymore

And how's your dd? Is waste-of-space still around? Bet she's loving having a garden for the summer

Squirrel3 · 21/06/2006 11:59

DD is fine thank you, and yep she is loving having a garden, dgs loves it too. Dd has put a trampoline in the garden for him, I bought him a swing and slide so he plays out there all of the time.

Waste-of-space is still coming and going, I think that is how its always going to be, its really not good for the kids but I can't make dd see sense.

OP posts:
NotActuallyAMum · 21/06/2006 12:33

What a shame, but you never know she might just see sense when she gets a bit older. I couldn't see for years what a tosser my ex was but when I hit 30 it suddenly hit me

I'm a bit upset with DP atm, it's parents evening at dsd's school next week and I really thought he'd ask me to go with him but he hasn't. But I guess there's still time for him to ask. Perhaps I'm being over-sensitive anyway, or perhaps I don't really have the right to go lol

It's getting really windy here now, good excuse not to mow the lawn later, the grass'll blow everywhere

Squirrel3 · 21/06/2006 12:53

Just been out to water the plants (with a watering can of course) and its realy windy here too. Mind you if you get out of the wind its still realy hot, might see if I can find a wind proof spot in the garden so that I can top-up my tan for the party Friday evening. Well, I've managed to get a good tan everywhere apart from on my legs below the knee.

OP posts:
Squirrel3 · 21/06/2006 12:56

And I do mean everywhere (apart from below the knee)!

Been out on the boat alot recently, we go out for miles and there is nobody about so why not do a bit of naked fishing/ - Well it saves getting white strap lines!

OP posts:
NotActuallyAMum · 21/06/2006 13:07

Can't fault you

Funny that about you not being tanned below the knee. I went to Rhodes in July 2000, there was a heatwave (even by their standards) it was between 48 and 53 degrees all fortnight and I got a great tan - except for below the knee. It did go a bit brown but nowhere near as much as the rest of me. In fact I looked a complete knob because I was tanned down to my knee and even my feet were tanned - I looked like a humbug

Squirrel3 · 21/06/2006 13:13

They are tanned but like yours, nowhere near as brown as the rest of me, I may have to put some self-tanning stuff on them for Friday evening.

You would think that being blonde and blue eyed I wouldn't tan at all but I'm one of those annoying people who just have to see the sun and then go brown.

Come to think of I look like a humbg! pmsl

OP posts:
Squirrel3 · 21/06/2006 13:28

Any idea what I can get for my brothers wedding present?

They have said that they haven't got married to get presents, they have everything they need (they have been living together for 10 years and have two kids), but I can't not get them anything, so it needs to be something small and thoughtful, I'm stumped!

I need to be able to get it by Friday too! Your good at this sort of thing Naam!

What a challenge for you!
