Thread two

We are over halfway through the season. It looks like the WDC will either be Lando or Oscar. Hoping for a grandstand finish in Abu Dhabi.

I thought Zaks radio messages were bad (Landos was super cringey, and the one to Oscar was just awful.and insensitive) but the touching/ruffling hair by MBS - at a very public event - was next level. You could tell people were laughing out of awkwardness and embarrassment rather than finding it endearing or amusing.

This is a shameless plug for Silverstone.

I’ve had a lovely couple of days but you could do it on one day.

Sunday Stayed at the Hilton, from 13:30 you could walk over the bridge to The Wing where they had ice skating, a few food trucks and Santa’s grotto ( not for me but fun for families).

Monday 10:00 Silverstone Museum - it was so quiet they asked my name when I arrived rather than scanning my booking.

I think there was just a family of 4 and me at first. You could wonder around and really look at the exhibits and no queuing to try the interactive elements. The scalextric opened about 10:30 and again minimal wait for a go.

16:30 I drive round the actual circuit at the heady speed of 5mph behind the pace car to do a lap of the lights.

You could easily do all 3 in one day.

I’m now in the bar overlooking the track!

Lap of Lights

Drive through a magical Christmas light trail on Silverstone's iconic F1 circuit. Experience Christmas lights from behind the wheel at the home of British motorsport.

I went on my own. The only downside is you can’t photograph the lights as you are driving.

@Brazilianadventure that sounds brilliant. I've done the museum twice and was impressed with it. Hoping to book dd a drive in a mclaren at Silverstone for her 21st. She's 19 next year but not allowed to drive the nice cars!

Comefromaway · 15/12/2025 19:30

me & my brother bought my active in an Aston Martin for his 70th & he bought dd a drive in a super car.

her brother bought her a shorter drive in a Maclaren car at a more local circuit.

she loved it.

Brazilianadventure · 15/12/2025 19:54

I loved the fact the museum tells the story of the names of the corners and acknowledged its WWII heritage.

It balances technical background with the cars and bikes. Barry Sheene’s bike is there. 😍

I have to confess I took my DS to Silverstone museum, a couple of years ago when he was interested in F1 and I wasnt, so I wasnt v appreciative of it 🤭 but just did as a mum-duty, its about an hour away for us to visit.

Rowgtfc72 · 16/12/2025 04:35

And Nigel Mansels Red 5!

HundredMilesAnHour · 16/12/2025 11:35

No need to go to the Silverstone museum. Just get a job where I work. 😛We have Lewis Hamilton’s 2015 winning car in our London office.

I got £200 christmas bonus from a client today yay! Lucky me! ....DH suggested going out for a meal....im thinking about a Saturday ticket for Silverstone.....but we would still need another 400 to all go, so will do some working out (me DH and DS)

Just to explain, my employer is one of the sponsors of Mercedes in F1, we haven’t stolen the car (honest guv!). The car is actually discreetly out of sight so you wouldn’t know it was there unless you’re an employee attending certain internal functions. I had no idea for several years! When I finally saw it, I was delighted to have a (free) glass of wine in my hand but found it hard to concentrate on the semi-work related conversation I was supposed to be having. 😂

We also get other occasional benefits like George Russell / Toto doing special interviews or videos for us etc. George’s short video about office security and ‘don’t let people tailgate’ isn’t quite comedy gold but did make me realise how much effort the sponsors suck out of the teams in exchange for the money. I felt for George. He definitely needs a world championship for putting up with all this!

Brazilianadventure · 17/12/2025 09:50

@HundredMilesAnHour I do know other corporate sponsors have cars too.
I was really surprised how big today’s cars are.

So true about the size of today’s cars @Brazilianadventure

Did any of you go to the F1 Exhibition when it was in London (or other cities around the world)? I was gobsmacked at both the size of modern cars and the size of the tyres compared to the ones from ‘olden days’. The current cars are absolute beasts.

Fizbosshoes · 17/12/2025 12:20

The new ones next year are going to be smaller aren't they - theoretically to make overtakes easier?

Yep. Hopefully small/narrow enough that Monaco won’t be such a tedious procession anymore.

HundredMilesAnHour · 17/12/2025 17:39

I feel bereft without F1 to obsess over this weekend.

Lots of rumours circling about Christian Horner maybe buying a share of Alpine. Horner and Briatore, what a combination that would be! Not a drop of integrity between them.

JimnJoyce · 17/12/2025 18:56

I’d love to see it though

Interesting podcast last night re next year’s cars:

Sounds highly complicated to me but I guess that why the Adrian Neweys of the world get paid the big bucks and I don’t. 😛
