I’m still coming down to earth. What a day. Everyone all day just felt weirdly optimistic, we learned so much from the last time round, it wasn’t about the day out this time, it was another game, a big game but another game that we just had to turn up for and crack the fuck on. And we absolutely did. It was so satisfying to not just win, but win because we were the better team on the day.
I’m not ashamed to say that at the final whistle I didn’t really celebrate, I kind of just crumpled and cried a bit. I’ve been a Newcastle fan for over 30 years, from a family of non football fans, first managed to get into St James’ when I was 15 via a family friend who took me and what was at that point an interest became a huge passion that has at various points taken over my life 😂 but I’d never seen us win anything of any real merit. Until yesterday. And the emotion of it all just got to me. To be there in the stadium as we lifted a real trophy was all I’ve ever wanted as a Newcastle fan.
I feel like I need a tattoo to commemorate the occasion.
