Do Scottish fans really not support England?

HouseofHills · 12/07/2024 10:57

There’s always a running joke about Scottish fans wanting anyone but England to win and supporting which ever team England is playing against. I totally get the friendly rivalry but is it actually true that most Scottish fans want England to lose in the Euros final or do most want England to win deep down given Scotland is out?

If England aren’t playing I think most England fans would support Scotland or Wales as fellow Brits, especially in a Euro or World Cup final!

What's actually funny is you don't actually see you are part of the problem. Judgemental.

Why is it a problem to you that someone describes themselves as Scottish. They are. It's a matter of fact. Why the need to judge someone for it - as I've said says far more about you than it does them.

You are just making other peoples points the more you post.

Werweisswohin · 14/07/2024 15:02

Ahem, yes they are.
We've got the smirking for starters.....

yeah I’m so superior that I chose to live in Scotland and marry a Scotsman.

Is he a small man for calling himself Scottish then?
Just stop.

Exactly this - it’s really proving the point that the little Englander mentality really is alive and well amongst some posters.

Werweisswohin · 14/07/2024 15:03

I don't feel inferior.
Your attitude is the issue here, your smirking, your judgement, your trying to suggest others 'behave', your rudeness.

My goodness you’re one of the most judgmental people on this thread. You’ve basically said that English people think they’re superior, how prejudice is that?!! Not to mention judgemental (which you keep calling everyone else out for)

what experience do you have? Do you live in England or are you just making assumptions based or hearsay….

SirChenjins · 14/07/2024 15:12

Remind us who smirks at people they encounter at work for writing their nationality?

Your attitude as well as the other two posters is why there is a divide. You’re finding an issue in everything. It really does get boring.

its the ‘Us’ and ‘Them’ mentality. There is no need as it creates the divide but of course it’s always someone else attitude to be blamed.

SirChenjins · 14/07/2024 15:17

No, the divide comes from those who smirk at other nationalities.

tigger1001 · 14/07/2024 15:17

SirChenjins · 14/07/2024 15:12

Exactly.

And truthfully if they were caught smirking at someone for their nationality, then they could lose their job. But don't see that smirking at someone for describing their nationality is a problem- a bad thing.

The irony, these interactions that led to the smirks clearly live in that posters head for them to remember them, yet very likely took up zero headspace in the person completing the form.

Oh you get funnier 😂😂😂😂

Take a look in the mirror. Smirking at someone who is describing their nationality is the problem here. Who is doing that? Not me. Someone describes themselves as English? Fine. British. Fine. Scottish. Fine. Welsh. Fine. Irish. Fine. Doesn't actually register as something to comment on. Because I don't have a them and us mentality.

These who make a big deal and describe us as "little man syndrome".... however clearly do. And them blame others.

It's actually hilarious and also proving others points perfectly.

You’re attitude is why you feel inferior and being it in to sports

Ah.

See, that's the thing, Scotland and Scottish people don't feel inferior. You think they are because you think they see England as superior. They really, really don't. None of the other countries in the UK think England is the superior country. It's quite the opposite really. All the other countries in the UK have a much stronger sense of identity and culture than England does and they are not ashamed to show it.

You yourself don't even call yourself English. You call yourself British first. But Britishness isn't even a thing. The four countries that make up the UK do not share an identity because they are different. Just like with Europe. They're all European on paper, but I doubt many, if any, would refer to themselves as European first. Each country has a history, culture, and an identity unique to them. Maybe that's why the English cling to football so much. It's one thing that you feel like you can take pride in.

You still don't see it.
Also, calling out someone else's judgemental attitude isn't being judgemental. 🫣

No, we're all finding fault in your attitude.
I'm not keen on MN pile ons but you really need to actually listen.

Perfectly put.

The fact no English people are arsed about this thread and the only ones yapping at the bit aren’t English, also proves my point that the English don’t really care and are pretty much indifferent.

It is sad that so many people dislike England to the point they hate England to win at sports and would literally cheer on anyone else to win but England. What a sad state of affairs. I would always cheer on Scotland to win, regardless of where I lived.

nietzscheanvibe · 14/07/2024 15:36

Collexifon · 14/07/2024 13:57

How utterly ridiculous. You do know you can change channels? Or that not every single tv show is made to appeal to you personally?

I doubt they will win, but if they happen to, then I expect there will be thousands that will enjoy that kind of programming.

It's rhetorical FFS, don't be so obtuse.

ClickClack300 · 14/07/2024 15:36

Its getting boring now as it’s no longer a discussion anymore, as it’s the same 3/4 posters saying the same thing and won’t accept any other view and reasoning other than their own.

I love Scotland but I do cringe the way some people act here and we’ll no doubt see tonight when the football is on.

Ive got to go and get the shopping now before the big match as DH wants a few beers to cheer England on.

Enjoy the match and fingers crossed England win 🤞

HollyKnight · 14/07/2024 15:37

Not sure how many times we can say that.

There are plenty of very arsed English people on here - I’m smirking at how bothered they are about another country not supporting their football team.
