Do Scottish fans really not support England?

There’s always a running joke about Scottish fans wanting anyone but England to win and supporting which ever team England is playing against. I totally get the friendly rivalry but is it actually true that most Scottish fans want England to lose in the Euros final or do most want England to win deep down given Scotland is out?

If England aren’t playing I think most England fans would support Scotland or Wales as fellow Brits, especially in a Euro or World Cup final!

There is an underlying tone (in general) that it’s acceptable to dislike England, whether that be sports or in other circumstances….

There's also an underlying tone that England/English people is/are somehow superior.

Well you can’t say that about me given my circumstances…

"There is an underlying tone (in general) that it’s acceptable to dislike England, whether that be sports or in other circumstances…."

And this thread goes some way to explain why.

Imagine someone smirking at you when you honestly describe your nationality? Imagine how that feels? Being accused of "little man syndrome" simply by describing your nationality as Scottish.

Maybe have a look at these undertones

While there is banter with the Scotland and England thing. We have the Olympics to look forward to and Team GB, which may include people from Northern Ireland, not even mentioned on the team name - but that's another story.

I smirked because I knew I was right.

The small man syndrome is what it looks like from the outside. The English generally don’t care either way and more indifferent.

No, you smirked because you judged.
You weren't right.

I was right that they would write Scottish and not British.

SirChenjins · 14/07/2024 14:54

Why the smirk?

SirChenjins · 14/07/2024 14:54

Why the smirk?

Because it was so predictable

SirChenjins · 14/07/2024 14:56

But why a smirk? I take it you know what it means?

You are the issue here.
I hope your boss secretly reads MN and gives you a warning for unprofessional conduct.

The current English football team is in fact superior to the current Scottish team.

Yes, the team is better than the Scottish team. Has anyone claimed it’s not?

No, that’s not what I asked. Why a smirk? What was it about this that had you smirking (providing you do actually know what smirk means)?

Telling someone to 'behave' when they point out how judgemental you are doesn't really help your cause.

You’re attitude is why you feel inferior and being it in to sports

I don't feel inferior.
Your attitude is the issue here, your smirking, your judgement, your trying to suggest others 'behave', your rudeness.
