Not necessarily the most spectacular but the most satisfying. Mine was when I was a teenager. I had a tingle in the philtrum above my lip that I could tell a zit was brewing in there. Outwardly there was no sign of it - the skin looked perfectly normal. It was the kind of vague unformed early zit pain that, nine times out of ten, if you squeezed it at that point all it would do would inflame the skin and make the eventual spot worse. Anyway on this occasion, despite knowing that, I squeezed the area anyway and instantly this perfect streak of pus leapt out of my skin and splattered across the bathroom mirror. And that was it done. No sign it had ever been there. No irritated skin. No residual soreness. Just a very polite zit that burst cleanly at the first prompting.

The gunk that you can peel out of your nose the after a nose job is insane! A mix of blood, snot, dirt… big chunks of black, crispy stuff that hides in every crevice. Amazing.

The people who kept their sporn on cards/wrapped in tissues etc to look at over the following days is a new one to me. I'm unshakeable but this has me questioning myself as it makes me feel slightly queasy. I need to reflect on this.

Haha this really tickled me. I don't find it gross but I'd be way too scared I'd get found out. I don't think my partner would be able to look at me in the same way again.

EnthENd · 12/07/2024 10:44

Infected big toenail was oozing pus from the corner, then one point I was worrying it and a layer of skin around the edge and base of the nail just peeled off in one piece, so satisfying.

Also not sporn exactly but the thick pieces of dead skin that came off after having a cast removed from my leg

This thread is magnificent. You all write so movingly, I have tears in my eyes.

I can't say I've ever kept my sporn on a card or in a tissue, but when I've had a fantastic spot that's splurted all over the bathroom mirror? I may have kept it there a while to look at!

I had an abscess on my gum. No dentist appointments available, local practice where I'd moved wasn't taking on. Got an emergency appointment a couple of days ahead at the dental hospital. but the pain was beyond description. My head was entirely engulfed in this enormous pressure pain and the throbbing was awful. I couldn't eat and felt awful.
I took a pin and stuck it in. Oh god the relief was as good as the puss ooze. It was disgusting and amazing that the pain subsided so quickly.
The dentist was furious I'd done it with a pin and took a razor blade to it as it had swelled again by the time I got there.

I had a thing up my nose too. Neti potted the rotting lump out eventually but I'd walked round for a week looking for dead mice. The stench was vomit-inducing.

Pus from the puss!

MyMotherWasANarcissist · 12/07/2024 14:40

A few that I think about when I can’t get to sleep but a couple that stand out are

  1. blackhead on my nose that popped out in two little lumps the second one bigger than the first so that it looked like a tiny snowman.
  2. one in my ear that had been painful for days. I kept squeezing it but it was very painful. I then tried again getting my nails awkwardly on each side of it and it was a really sharp pain that made me feel a bit sick so I pressed it hard to dull the pain, heard a massive crack and had a finger covered in gunk; so satisfying! Reliving that noise and the feeling If relief kept me happy for days. ☺️

One day I noticed Dcat had a huge lump on her back, seemingly grown overnight. I shaved off the fur around it to take a closer look and it had a head..

One hot flannel later and it started to erupt. I was there for about half an hour as the different layers revealed themselves. First yellow, then green, then pink- seemingly endless pus as Dcat was delighted with the events as she clearly felt immediate relief!

Sounds like an access. My cat had a couple of those after being bitten in a fight. The thick pink gunge that came.out was horrific!!

This thread has my mouth watering. The sheer joy at the disgusting things our bodies can produce 😂 Definitely one for classics!

My most memorable sporn was one I was not expecting but it still sits in my memory bank 20+ years later.

Driving across the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle and I felt an itch on the right hand side of my upper back. I took my hand off the gear stick and reached over with my left hand and touched where the itch was. I felt the a pop and pulled my hand back and saw green pus all over my fingers.

I had to change gears with the palm of my hand because the gunge was running down my fingers. As soon as I changed gears my fingers were back at the spot again, squeezing. Up and down the gears as it was rush hour, then squeezing again when I could until blood appeared.

My other story is about exH who had a massive spot in the crease at the top of his leg. When I finally popped it, it smelled like what I imagine a decaying corpse would smell like. It took several evenings of me performing 'surgery' on it to finally drain it. Beautifully revolting!

Bobbotgegrinch · 12/07/2024 21:34

In my late teens I found a big round blue patch on the underside of my bollock, about the size of a drawing pin head.

I poked, prodded, squeezed to no avail, so eventually got at it with a pair of nail clippers. The hair that came out of it, once unfurled was half the length of my foot. What followed it had the look, texture and smell of Stilton. (I didn't check the taste)

20 years later I've not found anything to match that moment.

My cat had her tail bitten and an abscess developed - anti-biotics sorted it out, it didn't burst but the most amazing, huge, shiny, crusty, lumpy scab formed. Once it had loosened I had the greatest time gradually picking it out of her fur - had to be gradual as she'd only tolerate me messing with her tail for a nanosecond! It had tiny perforations where it had grown around her fur. Truly a thing of beauty.

I had a lump on my head for a number of years. It didn't hurt or anything, was just a bump. One day I tried giving it a squeeze to see if anything was in it but nothing came out. Over the next few days it must have "activated". I woke up to it pounding and throbbing. Gave it a squeeze in the mirror and thick pus came out. Squeezed until it seemed finished. Well, it wasn't. Over the next couple of days it would start throbbing again and more and more thick gunk came out. One morning I was in the office early and it started throbbing again. As I was squeezing out the pus I could see a thick white core starting to move. I got in under it and a huge plug about as thick as a pencil and an inch or so long came out. I've never seen something like that.

Thinking it must have been an abscess and knowing they need to heal from the inside, so you can't let them scab over, I kept cleaning it every day. There was still a small amount of gunk coming out but because there was now a big crater from the plug, instead of squeezing I had to pull the edges apart and it would pop out. Well, in the final parting gift, as I pulled it open one day out came what must have been the sac wall. After that it closed up and never caused any issues.

As much as I love popping stuff, I found that there can be too much pus. Stop reading if you are inclined to get queasy. A friend's horse had a freak accident in the paddock (horses are prone to hurting themselves!) and while playing silly buggers at speed fell and slid and got impaled in his shoulder on tree branch. Treated etc and the vet used buttons to hold the edges of the 12 inch wound together (horse injuries can be interesting if it's not your horse). Anyway as he was treated in the paddock and debris from wood is hard to get out, a great deal of pus was generated. So much pus that, as he walked, it would squirt out in front of him. That was a bit too much for me. With excellent care he fully recovered and continued as a riding horse for many years. He had some muscle loss in the injured shoulder that was balanced out with padding.

That's reminded me of when I had a cast removed from my arm. 6 inches up from my wrist on the outside by 2 inches wide of the softest hair, like fur an inch long. It was really gross but so soft and comforting at the same time. I shaved it off in the end but still miss my furry arm 20 years later!

What a thread!

I had a very large cat who lived to be 18.
He used to get huge blackheads on his chin.

Every so often I'd apply a warm, wet flannel as he lounged.

After a while, out would come the giant blackheads, with thick yellow plugs of waxy gunk attached. It was horrifying yet satisfying. The cat seemed to feel relieved.

Standupcitizen · 13/07/2024 08:48

When i was about 7, i was idly digging around in my ear and i found a really thick, wiry hair so naturally i pulled it. The hair that came out was about 2 inches long, but it was still stuck so i pulled it hard and felt something shift in my head. I freaked out and yanked it and out popped a huge lump of wax with this freaky 3 inch hair embedded in it. Like a bath plug. Being 7, and being vaguely aware of what an eardrum was, i thought I'd pulled it out.

Didn't stop me going for another dig every day but i never found anything as good as that again. I live in hope.

SunshineonLeaves · 13/07/2024 11:10

These are awesome. Mine is tame in comparison but I still remember fondly the cyst on the top of my back which was just a hard painful lump that was gradually getting bigger. It wouldn’t be squeezed, compresses etc had no effect so I ended up getting antibiotics. A few days into them I idly touched it and it went bang, I could feel my hand covered in goo but it wasn’t until later I realised it had hit the wall behind me with a mess like a pus/blood gunshot splatter 😳😍

HeartandSeoul · 13/07/2024 16:51

Another one to add (my husband’s delight, not mine sadly!)….

My husband (then boyfriend) had a softish lump appear on his forehead, and it kept growing. It grew to the size of a marble.

We were on holiday a month or two after it appeared. One day, we were getting ready to go out, and my husband was saying that the lump was uncomfortable, and he will probably get it looked at when we returned home. At that point, I looked at it properly and noticed a head on it.

Well, being a sporner like myself, he rushed to the bathroom before I could finish my sentence. He gave it a squeeze, and the mashed potato/liquidy contents splattered all over the mirror 🥴, and kept coming out when gently prodded. He was in his element! I couldn’t face looking, for whatever reason, but he said the smell was horrendous! He was so happy that day 😁.

Ds, who was 6 at the time, had a peaceful sized lump under the skin just above his knee. I had shown it to the GP who said it was nothing to worry about, but I kept on feeling it & eventually one morning as I gently squeezed it the thing burst with a small amount of white pus. That night, he let me have another feel & it exploded & shot a line of bright green pus that hit me between my eyes & left a line on the top I was wearing. I thought that was the end of it until a couple of weeks later when I could see the thing had grown again, so I squeezed it & this thick white thing that looked like string started to come out, I gave another squeeze & it must have been at least 3" long, it was the core. I never imagined a 6 year old could produce something like that, I even called exh in to see it. For months after, ds was able to squeeze it himself & get threads of white out of it, now 20 years later the lump has returned & he won't let me or anyone else near it, I would love to attack it with a needle as it looks at least 3 times the size of the original lump.

Great post @Nat6999, but oh the cruelty of that cliffhanger ending 🥹

LoveRules · 07/08/2024 15:25

Have you reminded him @Nat6999 that you gave birth to him and raised him through his vulnerable years and it is fact his duty to allow you to revisit this most wonderful lump after 20 years of dormancy!

LyndaSnellsSniff · 08/08/2024 20:38

2 of note.

When I was about 8, I nibbled my fingernails and one ended up embedded in the roof of my mouth, just behind my front teeth. It was incredibly painful and swollen. It eventually worked its way out after 2 long weeks and the relief was sublime! It left a perfect crescent shape in my mouth for some time.

A few years ago I had a horrendous ear infection that spread to my jaw. After trying a few different antibiotics the GP eventually found one that worked. The next morning in the shower, I felt a lovely warm, sticky trickle coming from my ear and there followed a beautiful steam of orangey-red liquid ear wax. Absolutely joyous.

PermanentTemporary · 03/09/2024 22:55

What a wonderful thread.

Long ago I had a boyfriend with beautiful glassy skin that produced incredible blackheads and cysts. Early in our relationship he lay with his head in my lap and let me squeeze the blackheads around his hairline - a line of dark worms.
