Small lump started about a week ago, each day goes by it progresses.. Today its red raw where my thighs have rubbed together the skin has broken down. I've lathered it magnesium sulphate and hot compress... I can see a very tiny head coming up.
My god the agony is unreal.. Also don't feel myself at all. Not feverish or anything. Just feel really terrible.
What is this? Boil? Abscess??

The white stuff is magnesium sulphate BTW

Oh yes, fantastic!! All the badness has to come out eventually. Hot compresses / Sudocrem and photos please!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 08/10/2021 00:22

One hot flannel and a slight prod NOT a squeeze and that would pop!

Inagony234 · 08/10/2021 00:23

It's so hideous looking. Never had anything like this in my life ever.

I think you need to see the DR to drain it after all this time tbh. They can form little sacs that just keep filling up so could go now but come back again in the future. The sooner its sorted, the less chances of the hideous packing experience you could possibly avoid

SecretKeeper1 · 08/10/2021 16:39

I’d have to give that a good scratch / squeeze. The more that you get out the more chance the antibiotics have to work on what’s left. I’m not a doctor though, obvs.

2Two · 08/10/2021 23:20

I suspect it's ready to be drained. When I had a big abscess under my arm, it seemed to be the antibiotic which helped it come to a head and burst.

I agree, they stop them being blind and they get a head and then you can prod them.

Please don't pop it!

Given time and being on antibiotics, the boil will begin to drain on its own or it may heal by your body slowly absorbing and breaking down the pus. If it drains, you need to keep it very clean and bandaged to stop the infection spreading.

If your boil doesn’t heal and either stays the same size or grows larger and more painful, you need to go to the doctor for it to be lanced.

Don’t attempt this at home. Your home isn’t a sterile environment like a hospital setting. You’re at risk of developing a more serious infection or scarring.

If you pop it yourself, you'll get immediate relief, but 1) push in infection deeper into your body 2) the boil core will be left and the boil will likely reoccur.

YellowMonday · 09/10/2021 00:52

*When I say hospital setting, I mean GP setting - no need for the hospital for a boil to be lanced!

Inagony234 · 09/10/2021 12:55

Hi all. Im back to square one again.. Antibiotics haven't helped.. It's back to a large boil, throbbing, head on it.. Just looks utterly hideous. Back on the phone to 111 now.

Glad you're getting help, it may need a different antibiotic, but definitely get clinical advice today, don't delay - good luck

Inagony234 · 09/10/2021 14:08

Been given an emergency appointment for 3pm where its going to be lanced!! Thank christ.

Thanks

I hope the lancing went well and the pain has really eased

Atalune · 09/10/2021 15:55

I am living for your update.

Hope it all went well x

Cheeseandlobster · 09/10/2021 15:56

How did it go op?

Inagony234 · 09/10/2021 16:13

Argh... The doctor couldn't lance as they don't have the "facilities available" at the hospital. He's prescribed me a very strong antibiotic though and told me to start those immediately. If it doesn't start subsiding then i have to go to a&e and get it lanced :( still in agony.

OP posts:
Benjispruce4 · 09/10/2021 16:29

A hospital doesn’t have the facilities????? You poor thing. Get those drugs in ASAP and good luck!

Inagony234 · 09/10/2021 16:30

Its a community hospital i went to.. Not a acute setting.. They had one doctor there. Said it would need to be a nurse that does the Lancing 😷. I work in a hospital so i guess i can go to a&e there if i feel ropey next week.

What a ridiculous carry on , you poor thing . What antibiotics have they given you .

Inagony234 · 09/10/2021 17:15

It's called co-amoxiclav

OP posts:
Inagony234 · 09/10/2021 17:16

Honestly in sheer agony.

OP posts:
Floralnomad · 09/10/2021 17:41

You may find that they don’t work , I started on them for a boil once and ended up on rifampicin . Hope you get it resolved one way or the other soon .

BrilliantBulb · 09/10/2021 20:06

I’m probably wrong but I would honestly rather stab it myself than take yet another round of this time even stronger antibiotics that might not even do anything. What a joke. I’m so sorry OP.

Hyacinth88 · 09/10/2021 20:08

Honestly stab it and the relief will be instant.
