I'm in utter agony.. Please help me identify what this is..

Small lump started about a week ago, each day goes by it progresses.. Today its red raw where my thighs have rubbed together the skin has broken down. I've lathered it magnesium sulphate and hot compress... I can see a very tiny head coming up.
My god the agony is unreal.. Also don't feel myself at all. Not feverish or anything. Just feel really terrible.
What is this? Boil? Abscess??

I had something similar on my shoulder a couple of years ago. I had an abscess that needed to be drained.

Don't know but I'd be sticking a sterile needle in there!

Maybe a boil. Hot compresses until you see a white head, then you can lance and drain. Then thoroughly disinfect and put absorbing dressing on to keep it draining.

Im too scared, don't want it to get infected then end up having my leg amputated. You read these horror stories.
I'm a single parent and I'm worried about needing to go hospital and nobody being able to mind DD.
It's utter agony.

Ingrowing hair? They are bloody sore and can get very nasty. Can you send a photo to your doctors surgery?

OP, have you tried soaking in a warm both with a capful of Dettol added.

Let the warmth open your pores.

I don't really have any hairs around the thigh area.. It's in the inside of my thigh. I think it's a boil.
My god the relief once it pops.. I can't fucking wait. Its utterly awful. Been close to tears today.

It'll be fine, just pour boiling water on it then dip in alcohol :)

Going to put a hot water bottle on it tonight..

If you don't feel well, maybe you should go to the walk in centre in case you need antibiotics?

Without wanting to go into too much detail... I had to deal with an ingrowing hair that was merrily burrowing its way in... ummmmm... bottom of the spine, the very bottom of someone’s spine (but crack). It looked like a cold sore (so a sore white pimple) and it needed antibiotics and cream).

I thought it might be an antibiotics job.. I called 111 this morning but the wait was unbelievable so I just gave up. Worried about being unwell.

If you’re not feeling well you may need anti biotics. Better to get it sorted now, even if it means a wait on the phone, than to let it get to the point you’re really ill.

So my advice is to call 111 and hopefully they can book you into an out of hrs appointment today.

That looks infected whatever it is and so will likely need antibiotics. I got chaff on my arm after running a half marathon that looked a little similar re the puss and the agonising pain - shooting pains in my case. It can get quite serious cellulitis and septicaemia can be risks so go get it seen.

Hope you get through to them. Have you had a temperature too?

It’s likely a boil. The actual starting cause doesn’t matter too much. It’s a common place for them though. If you aren’t feeling well, it is time for medical attention. Since that can be slow on weekends, hot compresses or a hot bath may help get it to pop on its own.

Waiting for a clinician to call back, hopefully they can prescribe antibiotics and I can pick them up tomorrow morning. Going to do hot compress tonight and magnesium sulphate again.

How far up your thigh is it? Could you ask to see a pharmacist if it isn’t too far up?

I think that is an infected sebaceous cyst. I have been plagued by a recurring one. You need a course of antibiotics. It will pop eventually though and an unbelievable amount of grossness will seep out.

Oh gosh that looks sore. I’d keep on with the hot compresses just to get some relief from the pain. You poor thing. Hopefully it pops soon!

Pretty sure that's a boil. I had one once in an unfortunate area while pregnant. It was horrendously painful.

Did burst in the end, with immediate relief ensuing.
