Dd 10 has had a massive verruca under her big toe for over 3 years. GP said it would go of its own accord... it hasn't gone.
A few weeks ago she said it was hurting when she walked so I have decided to wage war on it.
So far we have tried soaking, filing and covering with a plaster, then soaking, filing and covering with duct tape for more than a fortnight but it made no difference.
Next weapon... Bazuka.
After 3 days, it look absolutely hideous....

Keep going that's nearly there! I used to pick black bits out with tweezers, no idea if it helped but with the gel and the picking they used to eventually come off in a big lump.

Firkinhavinalaugh · 28/02/2021 20:42

I REALLY want to peel that 🤗

Quartz2208 · 28/02/2021 20:46

DS had one that was an absolute pain - did what you did and then manage to pull it out with tweezers! It took a week or so of pulling it out all the brown bits need to have gone

redferrari · 28/02/2021 20:47

Banana peel worked wonders for us. The Verucca disappeared in 2 days. I duct taped a small part of the peel and it dried and fell off in 2 days. Tried bazuka but it didn't do much and the skin around seemed v red so stopped it.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 28/02/2021 20:55

Your poor DD that must be very uncomfortable. DS had a one that big. Before applying bazuka and duct taping, I'd go round the edge with a sterilised needle (upside down, using the 'eye' end) like you do when you use a knife to release a cake from a cake tin. Then scraped and poked at the surface of the verruca with said needle - apparently disturbing it helps to kill it off. Obviously was extremely careful and it was gone within a couple of weeks. I remember he came out from having a bath and had said it was gone (the hole in his toe was huge and I worried it would leave a crater/scar but it healed perfectly) I assume it went down the plughole, I still feel cheated to not get to see the evil thing finally evicted and share my spoils with you lot Grin

TheFoz · 28/02/2021 20:55

I have found banana peel to work as well! Sealed tightly with duct tape. I have one myself at the moment and I keep forgetting to put banana peel on it, tomorrow!

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 28/02/2021 20:57

you have to winkle out those black roots... I had one as a teen it was really painful as it grew and when i waged war on it I basically picked and picked at it with tweezers and I think corn plasters...you know the ones with a hole in the middle ....to act like a supportive pad over it so it didn't stab me as I walked.

WombatChocolate · 28/02/2021 21:07

It won’t help at this time of year, but agree that a week on the beach can make all the difference, especially if you’ve been treating it but it hasn’t quite gone. The sea water and water in abrasive sand constantly seems to just drive them away in the end if they have been treated.

Idbemonica1 · 28/02/2021 21:08

My daughter had one that lasted years tried everything and spent god knows how much. Eventually got a prescription for something but have since seen its available on amazon. Think it was called Glutarol You just paint it on the varucca it turns dark brown and falls off and was painless.

Knitwit99 · 28/02/2021 21:10

Poor soul, that looks hideous. I would be pulling that out with tweezers if it was my foot but I'm not sure I could do that to anyone else

Howshouldibehave · 28/02/2021 21:13

Ooh, I miss the verucca days!

Paint nail varnish on it every night for 1 days and it will fall off!

MonsterKidz · 28/02/2021 21:14

That is a big one! Looks like it’s working, keep going!

Cookerhood · 28/02/2021 21:16

The problem is that most of the treatments don't work, even if you think they do, it's often a coincidence. Your body needs to mount an immune response to the virus & for some reason it often doesn't seem to do this. I think that most of the treatments are aimed at irritating it so that your body mounts an immune response against it.

Pantsomime · 28/02/2021 21:20

Keep going OP - you may find it starts to some and grow outwards, just when you are despairing it will come off

Babysharkdoodoodood · 28/02/2021 21:20

Yeah. Ds2 suffered with one for years. Tried everything. Then saw the banana peel thing and thought sod it! Gave it ago and it bloody worked!

Lekky12 · 28/02/2021 21:25

Ooh, this is familiar, my son had a similar size veruca but not for as long, well he had quite a few. We tried Bazuca but found it crap. We used Scholl veruca and wart gel pen. You don't use much and it worked a treat. When they were almost off, my youngest son would wait till the eldest was asleep, pick the ones off he could get and present them to us like little disc trophies! He'll be a picker when he grows up!

Jfsrhkkydcb · 28/02/2021 21:39

The black dots aren't roots, that's a myth. They're blood vessels.

BlueThistles · 28/02/2021 21:41

Gawd love her... its a beauty ... 🌺

sherbetmelon · 28/02/2021 21:41

I had them so bad as a young teen, like your daughters. And they lasted years. I had a huge one on one foot and a nasty cluster on the other as well as a few scattered. I was riddled with them.
It used to cause me such upset and I was so self conscious I totally feel for your daughter.
Like you I tried everything, had them frozen at the GP a few time, tried all the creams and duct tape. Even taped banana peel to my feet overnight (no idea if it helped haha!) as my mum read somewhere that worked.

It WILL get better and I think you just have to be so vigilant with the gel. I even ended up using a pen knife and just digging them out. They eventually all fell off within a couple of weeks and left craters but healed nicely and now my feet are lovely as an adult.

I'm virtually cheering you on!

devuskums · 28/02/2021 23:19

Thanks so much for all your advice and encouragement... I am having to sit on my hands to stop myself attacking it with tweezers. But Dd says it hurts if I press around it, or touch it, she looked ready to faint when I said I would try and pull bits out with the tweezers again!!
A few weeks ago I tried and managed to get a whispy bit that resembled a hair but the black bits seemed to have plumped up since we started the Bazuka....is this an encouraging sign I wonder??

PubicMenace · 28/02/2021 23:38

I found Bazooka useless actually. In the end I nuked it with some freeze spray from Superdrug. It was a miracle after weeks and weeks of my quack treatments on poor dd.

devuskums · 01/03/2021 00:14

@PubicMenace did the Bazuka do anything when you first used it, or was it just useless from the beginning?

KingAndQueen · 01/03/2021 00:27

Try salactol. I first used it when I was about 9. Really worked- when nothing else would. Bazucka is the pits, doesn't work.

Tried salactol again last year when a vertical came from nowhere and one day it just disappeared!

Hope DD gets relief, they're right painful at times.

KingAndQueen · 01/03/2021 00:27

Verruca not vertical Hmm

HighwayCat · 01/03/2021 00:29

I’d always use the over the counter freezing treatments now. DS had a massive one on the side of his toe. It took 4 treatments every two weeks but it stopped hurting after the first couple and went all big and black and scabby. I had to wait until he was asleep to have a good poke at it with the tweezers.
