DH, DS (6) and I went to the printworks in Manchester. This was the first time we'd seen a 3d film and I was dreading that bit as I was expecting a headache but it really added to the film. I loved it when the glitter seemed to fall on our heads and the bubbles were just amazing.

Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film

A film full of real emotion, action thrills and out loud laughs.

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)

DH 5
DS 300 (!)
Me 5

  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film?

DH The fight with Pollito (and I want a toy Pollito)
DS the 21 fart salute and shooting El Macho with the fart gun
Me YMCA at the end, I nearly cried laughing and the Jam tasting.

Who is their favourite character and why?

DH The minions (the collective), dh thinks they deserve their own show
DS The minions (all of them) because they have the fart gun - spot the theme here
me Gru because he's a loveable rogue who will do anything for his girls

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?

DS - seeing the movie

  • What was your overall experience of the screening?

We had a great time, the staff were really friendly and helpful especially the guy in the photo I've attached (I'll stick some of ds enjoying himself in separate posts); who was great with all the children he established really good rapport and was making lots of effort to talk to the kids - he set himself apart from the other balloon modellers. As someone else said its a shame that the extra bits aren't standard cinema experiences as ds was thrilled with his mask and push-pop.

I'd love to see the photo of all the MN clan with their minion masks on in the cinema.

  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?

Absolutely, there was something in the film for everyone, in fact I expect grown ups would get more out of it than children. We all really enjoyed ourselves and we can't wait to buy the film on DVD and watch it again.

forgot to say DS, DH and I are all playing Minion Rush now

Grin foxy. You gotta be in it to win it Wink

ImaHexGirl · 16/06/2013 19:16

Nearly home but on phone so will post my proper comments tomorrow. But wow! Great film! DS loved it and got really involved. Minion currently being used as a freeze gun on the tube! Apologies to all other MNers at the O2, DS was a tad over excited before the film started. Didn't quite disgrace himself totally but I was probably guilty of loud parenting just trying to get him to listen to me Blush. On the plus side he didn't have a froot shoot Grin

Anotherexcitedminion · 16/06/2013 19:23

Ds and the iPad game

Anotherexcitedminion · 16/06/2013 19:24

Dd a bit shy of the minions initially but then didn't want to leave them! She has gone to bed clutching her McDs minion toy.

Prawntoast · 16/06/2013 20:19

Just back from the O2,

rating for film, adults 4/5, kids 5/5

Favourite bits, boy band minions, nacho chip hats (I want one!), fart gun salute.

favourite characters, minions and Dr Nefario.

Overall experience, good - staff were very pleasant, the kids loved having their photos taken with the minions and the balloon minions haven't popped yet.

would recommend the film.

Thanks Mumsnet for a great day out.

goldengreen · 16/06/2013 20:21

Ok, to add to my earlier post - this film builds on the first to show just how much of a father Gru has become and the lengths he will go to to protect those he loves. All of us would give it 5 out of 5 (I would maybe take away 0.5 of a point because I wanted to see how Gru's mother would take to her new daughter in law!).

  • fav part of film and fav character?
DP loved the description of "El Macho" 's death. DD liked the bits with the girls in. DS's lovedít when they were firing the jelly gun to cure the minions. He really liked the 3-D effect of the jelly coming at him. I think we all love the minions best.
  • what did DCs like best?
DS liked the film the best, DD liked the balloon modelling
  • overall experience.
Fantastic. It would be brilliant if all films could have this sense of occasion and feel special
  • would you recommend it in conversation?
Absolutely, already have done!
daisychain76 · 16/06/2013 20:25

Have a very happy DD and DS after a great visit to the Printworks.

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film

"Awesome, even better than the first one" (to quote ds).

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)

5 stars

  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?

the fart gun (ds and dd), the 3-D effects (dh and myself)
we all like Agnes, she is a cuties. Oh and, of course, the minions!

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?

It's the first time they've seen a film in 3-d so they found that very exciting. Even dh, who goes to the cinema once a week, thought the 3-d effects (particularly the bubbles) were the best he'd ever seen.

  • What was your overall experience of the screening?

Excellent. The balloons were a great idea.

  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?

Yes. I think it's a real film for all ages and I am going to spend the next week making everyone I know jealous!

Thanks Mumsnet.

Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film

Wonderful family film, full of laughs for adults and children alike

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)

Grown ups 5, children 5!

  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?

DC "all of it" - adults - the 3D bit at the end with bubbles was fantastic

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?

The film

  • What was your overall experience of the screening?

Ok - there was alot of standing (we were at the O2). I dont think they were ready for us so having arrived at 3.30, we queued downstairs till 3.45 and then stood till nearly 4.25 before we got to sit down. (theres only so much colouring we could do!)

  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?
Already have done!
missusjen · 16/06/2013 20:34

An absolutely excellent film which exceeded expectations and was a fantastic sequel. All four of us rate it a 5/5
Our favourite part of the film was the same as the childrens - when the minions were shot with jam and turned back to yellow! Their favourite character is El Macho! Our favourite is Gru.
The childrens favourite part of the day was taking home a balloon minion and watching the film.
Overall the whole experience was just lovely, a fantastic Father's Day treat. All of the activities in the foyer were brilliant and having a treat and a drink on the seat was great.
I would definitely recommend Despicable Me 2 to anyone - it's a brilliant film which offers something for everyone. There is so much going on that it is great for repeated viewing and the quality is superb. It's also very funny! I can't wait to see it again :)

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film
Fabulous film for both children and adults. Full of laughs and great 3D effects. A hoot!
  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
All of us say full marks!
  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?
The bit when you see the minions bum when he runs into the sea Grin and the bit when Agnes is trying to put off the lady at the door and asks if Gru is pooping. Mainly all the bits when it's about bums and poos (DS, not me in case you weren't sure). Also when they are trying to get the very thin drugged lady home. Grin the 3D effects a the end were amazing. Especially the bubbles. And the rain. Lucy is a great character I loved her. The DCs would say the minions because they laugh at poo and farts all the time.
  • What did your DCs love best about the day?
Everything. They felt it was special to be doing something just for them.
  • What was your overall experience of the screening?
Great! I've never seen a 3D movie before and thought is was fabulous. (Running out of positive describing words here).
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?
Yes! I'm not that keen on kids film but laughed my way through it. It funny and warm. A perfect film.

Thankyou again Mumsnet. It was a pleasure to be involved in this and I spent a very rare and special afternoon with my firstborn and we thought it was just lovely.
Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks
Will upload pics in a mo.

BuiltForComfort · 16/06/2013 20:41

Thank you so much for today. We went to the O2 screening.

Summary: Gru and the girls return to fight against villains and have to rescue the minions.

Stars - I would give it 4, ds said 4.5, we both really enjoyed it but thought it wasn't quite as good as the first film.

Favourite part - ds liked anything with the minions; I thought the sequences with Gru being kidnapped and taken to the submarine were great - loved the parascending minions! The 3D bubbles were amazing too!

characters - for ds it was Gru, because he loves his gadgets and guns. I love Gru too as I think he's a great character with lots of expression. Also as I think Steve Carell is fab.

Best thing about the day - the film

Screening (O2) - it was ok but there was a lot of queuing. The greeters weren't particularly in evidence although the balloon ladies were, and were very nice. We couldn't get though to the toilets before we were let through to the screen, and had to faff round going back downstairs. (The greeter didn't know if we could go through or not, and there was such a crowd at the door it seemed easier to go back out).

Would I recommend - definitely!

Thanks again.

lackaDAISYcal We shall have to stop stalking meeting each other like this Wink Great to catch up with you again!

- Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film Retired ex-baddie persuaded out of retirement to do one more job...for the goodies.

- Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest) I'd give it three, I found my attention wondering at times (but I'm really hard to engage watching films), DD1 gives it 5 and DD 2 gives it 4 because this one is sadder in the middle than the first (IHO)!

- What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why? The minions boyband (mine), the wedding (both DD's),

- What did your DCs love best about the day? Meeting the minions! Mine was seeing the MNer who's girls had dressed up as 'the girls', I overheard a little boy excitedly tell his dad he'd seen three girls dressed like 'The girls; and the dad said utterly dead pan, 'Yes I've seen the girls dressed as 'the girls' for some reason that just cracked me up completely.

- What was your overall experience of the screening? Overall it was fun, altho a bit chaotic at times, waiting in the foyer and the queues to meet the minions and the balloons, Thankfully MNers queue, and the balloon ladies didn't hesitate to tell those who weren't sure to go and join the queue.

- If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why? Absolutely, it's very funny and my girls were absolutely enhtralled, even my youngest who usually gets fidgetty in the middle and I liked that the girls get a mum.

ArtemisKelda · 16/06/2013 20:49

Brilliant time - we both really enjoyed ourselves. Here's DS with a minion.

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film

Entertaining family film with a few tearjerker moments for the adults.

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)

4 for me, 5 from DS

  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?

His favourite part was the Minion Movie audition and the minions on the beach sequences. We both absolutely love the minions.

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?

Getting to see the film in 3D and he was delighted with going on the bus too as we got to sit at the front of a double decker

  • What was your overall experience of the screening?

Good, well organised. A bit crammed in the foyer as everything was in the same area.

  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?

Definitely, it's an enjoyable family film and the 3D was very cleverly used, especially in the Minions sequence with the butterfly and the bubbles. I would certainly recommend going to the 3D version instead of 2D.

ArtemisKelda · 16/06/2013 20:51

And here's DS getting a balloon minion.

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film

Yellow peril

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)

I am ashamed to admit I fell asleep after almost no sleep last night and a cracking migraine. The dcs both adored it and gave it a 5 without hesitation

  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?

dd loved "all of it but especially the bits with Margot", ds loved the wedding at the end, and anything with the minions

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?

Seeing it first before the friends, and meeting the minions

  • What was your overall experience of the screening?

It was really great - thank you Mumsnet!

  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?

Yes - it's charming and highly entertaining

cjbk1 · 16/06/2013 21:06

Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film
Almost perfect family fun

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
4.5
  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?

dh; getting Shannon home from the restaurant
me; Dr Nefario leaving slowly on his mobility scooter thing
DC's; Dr Nefario and the jam going to good use
my favourite character was Agent Lucy Wilde
DC's loved the minions

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?
the 3D nature of the film however the best effects weren't until the last third and in the credits...
  • What was your overall experience of the screening?

thank you for organising it and the experience was fun overall but there was too much waiting around for comfort, a big queue for photos with the minions, which meant lots of "WHENs it going to start?" from DC's, and after I'd promised them free popcorn they were disappointed not to receive any and I thought the 'ring pop' was a really poor alternative so we bought popcorn anyway...

BUT it was very exciting for them to go into London to watch an early screening of a very good film, thanks again

  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?

yes I would, because we thoroughly enjoyed the film and I'd like others to

when the credits came on and all the bubbles 'floated out' and nearly ALL the children reached out to touch them i burst into tears stifled a little sob...on fathers day too...such a lovely moment

cjbk1 · 16/06/2013 21:07

one more thing-the animal testing bit upset me and wasn't suitable for young children especially those with a pet rabbit, not necessary
