  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film

Bloody brilliant family film, with humour suited to both adults and children!

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)

5* Off the dc and I.

  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?

My favourite was Agnes, she is too cute! Ds's was all the minions and Dnephew's favourite was Kevin the minion.

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?

Ds liked the minions in the film and foyer, balloon minion and the colouring in. DNephew liked the iPad games.

  • What was your overall experience of the screening?

I firstly would like to say the staff in the foyer were lovely, helpful and informative when asked what was to happen next. Although if you didn't ask you would of been wondering.
I avoided the queue's as I was there on time at 3.25pm :o But was at the end of the queue to get in.
Going into the cinema eagerly to find our snack, I was gutted to see a push pop. Ds is 5 and became a sticky mess. Dn didn't want his at all and I ate mine as I was starving. It should of been clearer what the 'snack' would be, as a push pop is not a snack, a snack is something that fills you for a little while. Like popcorn or nachos. Wink
The film was brilliant! Better than the first imho and really glad to not have to see trailers at the beginning, I think it did get a bit boring in the middle but soon livened up again. I am a bit meh about 3D films but this was made very well.

  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?

Yes I would, and will take the dc again when it comes out at the £1 screenings with their new Minion soft toys their Grandad has promised them and mine

Thanks for the tickets, it was really nice spending a day in London with ds and dn and although nothing to do with the film, dn had some amazing firsts as had never seen the O2 or Big Ben etc.
Memories I will keep forever :)

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film.-

Hilarious family friendly film.

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)

DS1-4
DS2- 1000
DH-5
Me-5

  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?
DS1 liked the jelly guns and his favourite characters are the minions because they are always so funny. DS2 liked the Ramsbottom but and the fart gun.Grin His favourite characters are the minions because of their voices. DH and I liked the boyband and YMCA at the end. I was crying with laughter. DH's favourite characters are the minions because he loves a good fart joke. My favourite is between the minions (for all the reasons above) and Gru because he is funny, vulnerable and brave all at the same time.
  • What did your DCs love best about the day?
DS1 loved the IPads in the foyer. DS2 loved every single bit.
  • What was your overall experience of the screening?

It was a great experience. We arrived just before 4 so didn't experience any of the waiting around. DS2 loved meeting the minions and the balloons (although it is sadly no longer with us).

The only thing I found confusing was the queue. I joined it because everyone else did but didn't really know why I was there.Grin Had a lovely chat with a Mumsnetter about wearing Minnie Mouse ears on the school run.

  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?

Yes and I already have! I would recommend it to adults for the boyband scene and for the children because it was hilarious. I would also recommend the 3D. This was my first 3D film and now I get what the fuss is about. The bubbles at the end were lovely.

Thanks Mumsnet for giving us the chance to go. All the children were so well behaved and although I only spoke to a couple of Mumsnetters- thanks to the lady who showed me how to turn my phone off Smile- everyone seemed so happy and genuinely pleased to be there.

KneeDeepInDaisies · 18/06/2013 08:21

Oops forget to say. I love how the film showed that families come in all different shapes, sizes, ages and colours.Wink And that you don't have to be "related" to be family.

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film

Fantastic fun for young minions, old minions and wannabe super evil masterminds.

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)

Me - 4
DD1 - 5
DD2 - 5
DS1 - 5

  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?

Their favourite parts change every five minutes. They loved it from start to end especially the beach scene where you saw the minions bottom Grin They also loved the bit where the purple minion jumped up at the window of the house, it scared them all and makes them laugh now thinking about it. They loved the bubbles at the end as well and although I loved the whole film that was my favourite part as the children were just mesmerised by them and tried to grab them...Oh and DD2 keeps going on about the butterfly as well!

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?

The DCs are aged 8, 7 and 6 and have never been to the cinema before, so add into that, that it was at the O2 in 3D and there was no doubt this was going to be an amazing day for them. They loved it from start to end (apart from the standing around/queuing) but if they had to pick just one thing then it would be the film and I have already had demands to go and watch it when it comes out on general release and to get the DVD when it is released!

  • What was your overall experience of the screening?

The film and day out was amazing, however, the fun in the foyer was a bit of a let down and just turned into an hour of queuing. We queued to have our photos taken with the minions but because we then needed to queue to get into the cinema (DD2 was scared we wouldn't get seats together if we didn't queue to get in) we didn't get a chance to play on the ipads, or do colouring in or get any balloon figures and so the DC were a little upset about that. It may have been better to let people into the cinema sooner and had the balloon ladies going round the cinema making balloons for everyone whilst they waited.

  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?

100% and I have already for all the reasons I have already mentioned above but mostly because it has put a massive smile on my DC's faces and they haven't stopped talking about it and acting it out.

Finally I would like to say a massive thank-you to MNHQ for organising all of this (and sorting my ticket issue out when it went pear shaped) it really was a huge treat for the DCs and a pretty big one for me as well.
Thanks Thanks Thanks

I'm finally on a computer that shows the "browse" button for photos, so here is DD meeting the minions at the O2. DS wouldn't go near them!

marryinhaste · 18/06/2013 23:16

And this one isn't at the O2, but at Bluewater during half term, before we even knew we were going to the mn screening.

marryinhaste · 18/06/2013 23:28

I have just noticed I am one of TeamEdward's vipers - how funny!

littlemonkeymum · 20/06/2013 16:38

Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
I would easily give it 5 stars, as would DD.

What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?
Lipstick taser and fartguns were the most memorable bits for DD, she was laughing about them for hours after! Lucy was a big hit as a character - the happy-ending wedding when she became official mother to the children was 'sooooo great' according to DD. 3D bubbles at the end topped it all off.

What did your DCs love best about the day?
Photos with the minions and balloon making made it extra-special for DD

What was your overall experience of the screening?
Very well organised, friendly staff and great entertainment

If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?
Definitely. I have to admit I wasn't blown away by the first one so expected not to enjoy this screening all that much personally, but I wasn't bored once! Really funny bits and 3D worked really well (though a little too well at times for DD as there were a few scary bits that freaked her out for a while). She loved it on the whole though, it was a really memorable day.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to have a really memorable Father's Day, DD was happy, therefore DH was happy!

MrsMinion · 20/06/2013 17:21

Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film

Just as funny, clever and entertaining as the first film

Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)

5 from all of us (including DH!)

What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?

I have a crush on Gru so he is my fave. DC's liked the minions best as they are like naughty children. They particularly liked the bit where the minions said bottom!

What did your DCs love best about the day?

They loved seeing the film before their friends and all the little extras (colouring sheets, balloon minion, mask etc) we go to the cinema a lot as a family but this made it all more of a special treat.

What was your overall experience of the screening?

Loved the minions and balloon ladies in the foyer, but found it very chaotic with all the queues and nobody seeming to be in charge or having any information. Felt it needed someone in a mumsnet T-shirt and a clipboard!! Also agree with previous posters that a push pop is not a snack. Popcorn would have been preferable, or just letting people know beforehand so we could have gone to our seats armed with suitable snacks. Had to send DH back to the foyer for popcorn for the kids. Not a big drama though and overall had a great time.

If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?

Yes, already have! I absolutely loved the film and would happily sit through it again.

prettylucky · 20/06/2013 18:00

Very funny and touching film - and I haven't see the original... yet!
3.5* from me (only cause I hadn't seen the 1st film)
5* from 10yo

What a fantastic Fathers' Day experience this was! We got into Manchester early (though not early enough for cheap parking it turned out - we know it's 08.30 for next time... Wink) and went for a nice relaxing breakfast together at Chiquitos. By the time we'd finished the action had begun in earnest outside the screen: There were minions to have photos taken with (our own smallest minion wouldn't stay still long enough for no blurs, unfortunately), colouring in, balloon fun and probably other things besides - no chance for me to get any further than the balloons with my poppet turning into a screaming purple minion at the sight of them...

So, favourite bits: film (me, OH and 10yo DS), balloon minions, free sweet and ice-cream on the way out(2yo DS)

This was my 2yo's 1st cinema trip and he did really well once the film was on. He didn't want to wear the glasses the whole time though so didn't get the best of the experience.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone and can't wait to watch the original movie.

Thanks so much Mumsnet, we had a wonderful time together and what a lovely quiet ride home...

FairyPenguin · 20/06/2013 18:42

Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film

Gru and the girls are back, with more fun from the minions!

Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)

DD - 5
DS - 3.5 (points deducted for scary parts)
DH - 4
Me - 4

What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?

DD - the wedding scene at the end. She loved Lucy.
DS - the jelly guns and the minions being sucked up by the ice cream van. His fave was the minions.
DH - the boy band scene. Gru.
Me - the jelly guns. I love Gru too!

What did your DCs love best about the day?

DD - seeing the film before any of her friends.
DS - his balloon minion!

What was your overall experience of the screening?

We felt very privileged to be at a preview screening, and the entertainment was good. However, we felt it could have been better organised. When we got to there at 3:35, it wasn't obvious where to go, then we waited in the entrance till about 3:50 before being led upstairs. Having the minions there was brilliant and we were very lucky to be near the front of the queue to have photos taken. The balloons were a big hit but it took a long time to queue and we felt that they would have benefited from having some made up, ready to hand out.

After those two, we ended up joining the queue to go in as DH was worried that we wouldn't get seats together otherwise. DD grabbed a colouring sheet to take home and we didn't get a chance to go on the iPads. It was very hot and stuffy in there so the standing around felt even longer, I don't see why they couldn't have let us get into our seats earlier, knowing that the screening wouldn't be starting straight away.

As others have said, I was very disappointed with the sweet that was the snack. I don't usually allow the children to have those, especially as that shape is a particularly high risk for choking, but felt that I couldn't refuse. We did like the bottles of water though. The masks were good, but needed eye holes! We were pleased that there were booster seats available.

If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?

Yes, I have! The only caveat being that the film is scarier than the first one, and might not be suitable for preschoolers, or sensitive children. DS (3yo) was very frightened in at least a couple of scenes, and I know that DD (6yo) would have been scared this time last year if she had watched it then, being a very sensitive child.

DC2- Minions (but not the purple ones!!!!)^

EVERYTHING...Literally, we all had a fantastic time
  • What was your overall experience of the screening?
If all cinema trips were this much fun we?d go more often. Fabulous!
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?
Have and will highly recommend.

EVERYTHING in this film was perfect. We loved it so much. DS (age 3) was a little afraid of the naughty minions but provided sensitive little ones are with a reassuring adult I think it?s fine. All turns out well in the end and there is so much love, joy and happiness in the film I can?t see how anyone could dislike it.

Sorry that previous photo is so small...no idea how to edit the photos from my phone but here is another of my little ones all excited before we set off.
