  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film
A fabulous film for both children and adults. The 3D effects were fantastic.
  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
All 4 of us would give it 5 out of 5
  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?
DS When Agnes was trying to get rid of the neighbour from the door and said Gru was putting lipstick on! DD All of it. DH When they get married at the end, when Agnes was going to bed and said she thought a chicken was going to pop out of Gru's head. Mine When they got married at the end and the boyband.
  • What did your DCs love best about the day?
It was brilliant from start to finish. We went to the Printworks and there was no queueing, we got to see the minions several times, play on the ipads, lots of colouring and the balloon modelling was great, neither have popped yet!
  • What was your overall experience of the screening?
We all loved it, thank you very much Mumsnet.
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?
I will definitely be recommending it, it was an excellent film.

Gru, he is just so lovely and has such a great turn of phrase!

DD1 ? The bit with the jelly gun when the minions went back to normal
DD2 ?When all the minions were singing at the end because it was fun

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?
DD1 ? Watching the film DD2 ? Watching the film
  • What was your overall experience of the screening?

It was really lovely to see the film but there was a lot of standing around in a hot foyer with no information as to what was happening.

The balloon Minions were great and the masks too.

The snack was awful, a horrid sugary lollypop thing that i would never let them have,

  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?

Yes ? it was fab, better than the first film!

I also thought the animal testing scene was a bit Shock

All in all thanks MN for a great day!

debs your girls looked fantastic!

3rdnparty · 16/06/2013 21:51

Will add photos later but comments,
All really enjoyed film but kids 7/8 thought bit too much kissy/lovey stuff
Would get 4/5 from all of us even dh who v wary of 3d as can get headaches thought the 3d effects really great esp the bubbles . Film still good even not 3d would absolutely recommend..

Kids liked naked minions/ jelly shooting minions/ any minion bit really
Dh Kevin purple minion!
Me any minion bit though the birthday party bit was fun and the referencing of spy movies..
We all loved the credits bit.

The screening organising not great on the day big q's for balloons after standing around for ages...not sure why they didn't just have a load of those ready ...and the sweets even the kids said they felt sick after! Didn't stop them scoffing them, would have been better with greggs & a fruit shoot .....

Loved the masks though... Really enjoyed being there!!!

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film
A fantastic film for all the family, a funny, heartwarming and exciting adventure, with added minions!
  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
4 - me and DH 5 - DDs
  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?
DD (6) - anything the minions did! Me, DH DD (13) - the minion songs at the end, really really funny!
  • What did your DCs love best about the day?
Aside from the film itself, the balloons and being able to meet actual minions really impressed the girls, even raising a smile on a cynical teenager's face!
  • What was your overall experience of the screening?
Brilliant, really well organised, and lovely welcoming staff.
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?
Yes would definitely recommend the film to anyone, particularly other parents, as it is a film that adults will enjoy as much as children, not always the case with children's films.

Thanks Mumsnet and everyone involved for a fab day!

AintNobodyHereButUsKittens · 16/06/2013 21:58

We went to the O2. Thanks for a fun afternoon out.

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film
Good solid family film - not an absolute classic, but entertaining for all ages.
  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
4 from me, and a 5 from the DCs
  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?
DD liked YMCA at the end, and the Minions sniggering at Ramsbottom's name. DS specifically liked the Minions Movie at the end - but I heard him laughing like a drain at every piece of slapstick and fart gag throughout - it targetted his sense of humour with millimetre precision. I liked the Minions Movie and El Macho having the most macho death imaginable DH liked the bit in the credits where it said "TASER is a registered trademark of the TASER Corporation" but he's a bit strange like that

Fave characters:
DS, the minions
DD, Edith (ninja girl)
DH, Dr Nefario (a huge achievement to make DH like Russell Brand)
Me, Kyle the dog-thing and Lucy

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?
DS liked playing the computer game in the foyer, DD liked being the first to watch the film I liked Debs' girls dressed up as Margot, Edith and Agnes - they looked fabulous.
  • What was your overall experience of the screening?
Generally good, but the wait around before they let us into the foyer with the activities was a bit tedious.
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?

Yes definitely - I wouldn't force it on them in a OMG YOU MUST SEE THIS MOVIE way; it's not going to change anyone's lives. But if it's a rainy day and you want to go to the cinema and be entertained it's a pretty foolproof choice, I can't imagine anyone coming out feeling short-changed or with bored or overly scared children. Good 3D effects as well.

agentlucywilde · 16/06/2013 21:58

Right, on the laptop now!

Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film:
A fantastic follow up to the first film, being at least as good, if not better.

Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
All of us said 5 stars

What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?
My favourite part was the ending - I actually cried. The DS loved the jelly gun and the bubbles at the end which they were trying to catch along with everyone else - those effects were amazing.
Character-wise, DS1 loves each and every minion, DS2 loves Gru. DH liked agent Lucy Wilde and I loved Gru's vulnerability when it came to her!

What did your DCs love best about the day?
DS1: " going into the actual cinema"
DS2: "playing minion rush before we went in" (though he managed to break it!)

What was your overall experience of the screening?
Well organised, well thought out (e.g. no trailers / adverts, just straight into the film), everyone behaved absolutely amazingly in the cinema, I was astounded at how quiet it was considering how many children there were in the audience.
The one surprise was that the free snack (ring pops I think?), I wouldn't let them have ( I have a thing about lollipop-type things) but that's just me and it was still a lovely gesture that those and the water were provided.

If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?
Would absolutely recommend it to anyone with children, although DS2 (3yo) found parts of it really scary. It's worthwhile seeing it just for the minions!

Overall, a really lovely event which we feel privileged to have been part of , especially as it was DS2's first ever cinema experience! Many, many thanks Mumsnet!

fuzzpig · 16/06/2013 22:06

Too tired to do full feedback tonight but just wanted to say thanks MN for an amazing afternoon! Film was fab :o

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film
Gru returns in a great fun family film.
  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
5*
  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?
They both loved everything that the minions did. My dd (8) liked Lucy and her cool weapons. Ds (5) liked the minions - especially their singing.
  • What did your DCs love best about the day?
All of it! Seeing the minions, having the balloons, the masks and of course the film
  • What was your overall experience of the screening?
A bit too much queuing and waiting! But apart from that a nice time was had by all- thanks
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?
It's funny and cleverly aimed at both children and adults. It has great characters and is not corny.

Everyone who adds their feedback to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a goodie bag packed full of Despicable Me 2 merchandise.

Can you believe what happened? Went to the train station and the train was cancelled. Next one in over an hour. I was supposed to reach at 14.45 according to the first plan. I could have cried. Well, DH came to the rescue and said he would take us by car.
Right, so we were no reaching at 15.15 (Still enough time). The route avoiding Central London had a diversion so we went sightseeing in London (by force). I almost cried, the children did. We were stuck in traffic. The journey that should have taken an hour took 2 and a half hours.
But....we made the movie. And we were glad we did.

We were the ones who walked in late and disturbed you. Sorry!!
We missed the fun in the foyer and the children were really sad, but I am glad we did not turn around and head home(which at one point we nearly did)
We saw the Movie!!Most important!! Feedback to follow!!

janx · 16/06/2013 22:11

MonsterBookOfTyRexs · 16/06/2013 22:16

marryinhaste · 16/06/2013 22:21

Back from the O2 - firstly I wanted to say thank you mumsnet for giving me the opportunity to give the kids a lovely afternoon.

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film

Fun sequel, with lots of laughs and suitable for keeping all ages entertained.

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)

DCs would give it 5, I would give it 4.

  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?

DD (5) loved the minion getting sucked down in the sea. She loves the minions.
DS (2) also likes the minions. He laughed a few times, but also found the rabbit bit quite scary, and jumped at a few of the 3D effects. He likes any part with Gru's car, too.
I liked the boy band, the bubbles and the YMCA. Not sure I have a favourite character, find the adults hard to "like" and I can't remember too much about the kids, other than the youngest's sickly sweetness.

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?

DS - balloon minion
DD - the film

  • What was your overall experience of the screening?

It was a bit haphazard. We queued for a long time before even getting up to the foyer, and then everyone just crowded round the minions. Only after a while did the organisers suggest a queue.

The balloon queue took a long time (but the balloon ladies were fab!), and then the queue to get in to the actual screen seemed to take forever. I think it would have been better if we had had allocated seats, as then we could have enjoyed the activities more without worrying about queueing for a seat where we wanted it. I didn't buy any food as I didn't want to have to go to the back of the queue again.

  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?

Yes, I think it was a good film, and I know friends with older kids who would definitely enjoy it.

Thanks again!

oohaveabanana · 16/06/2013 22:21

Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film

That rare thing - a sequel that lives up to an original.

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
DD: 5/5 me: 5/5 DS: 10/5
  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?

They both said they loved every bit - but the little films over the credits - with the bubbles/butterflies etc was really magical. They loved minion island too.

I loved the wedding & the minion-band, and, like the first film, the little touches like the nacho hat, and the minion friday night ice-cream party - fabulous!

We all laughed genuinely out loud all the whole way through it.

Ds & I liked Lucy, & the minions, Dd is a huge Edith fan!

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?

The film itself was defn the highlight - especially in 3d. It was the dcs first 3d (& my first in years) & I was hugely impressed - subtle, but effective - made everything feel 'real-er', as well as the set pieces which were great.

  • What was your overall experience of the screening?

We loved the balloons, the minions themselves & the sense of excitement and fun. The whole thing felt very special and exciting - especially with all the kids bouncing around (in a very well behaved way, of course)

The timings/information was a bit hit and miss (eg.there felt like quite a bit of queuing; the foyer wasn't ready on time; the lolly snacks, as others have said were not what I might have expected - although the dcs loved 'em! It would have been handy to know what snacks there were going to be - I talked to a few mums in the queue to go in & all of us were wondering whether to buy stuff to take in or not. Snacks are an important part of the cinema experience!)

  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?

Absolutely - clever, warm, nicely drawn characters, and suspect it would work for pretty much any ages. In fact, ds is already booked in to see it again, & dd will probably take dh who missed out today by foolishly booking in work on a sunday Smile

Thanks to MN, and all involved!

Kneedeepindaisies · 16/06/2013 22:22

Will leave feedback tomorrow but I also wanted to say thanks Mumsnet. We all had a fab day. SmileThanks

Thank you Mumsnet for a fantastic afternoon!! Grin

Will post feedback tomorrow as I'm shattered too!

TheOldestCat · 16/06/2013 22:46

Will also do my feedback tomorrow when I get a moment as we have just got home. Just wanted to say a huge thanks for such a lovely experience.

MustafaCake · 16/06/2013 22:47

Thank you for a great day out Mumsnet!

DS (6) has been chatting about it all day. This is unheard of as he has the memory of a goldfish even when he loves something!

We went to the Manchester screening. Before I do the feedback can I just say that whoever the small boy dressed as a minion belonged to... WE LOVE HIM!!!!!!!!

Here's the feedback:
Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film
Gru turns good, becomes a Dad, loses his Minions and finds lurve

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
5/5 from both of us
  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?
DS's was when the man said his name was Silas Ramsbottom and the minion said bottom. He also loved the minions turning purple I likes the 3D effects at the end
  • What did your DCs love best about the day?
The great film with all the activities and goodies that made it so special, DS especially liked the balloon modellers, minion mask and very unhealthy sweet!
  • What was your overall experience of the screening?
well organised and thank you for not having any adverts or trailers before, it's hard enough to get kids to sit through a long film without all that crap aswell!
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?
yes, adults and children will enjoy it. A sequal that is as good as the first film!
MustafaCake · 16/06/2013 22:50

PS I was never in any big queues, apart from the one for cinema snacks (nothing to do with this screening) so did not have the same experience as some of the above posters.

I think we came to the foyer and into the cinema a bit after most people though?
