Whether it’s exploring the great outdoors, cozying up for a movie night, or indulging in a shared hobby, engaging in activities as a family can create precious memories and strengthen the bond between loved ones. We want to know about the activities that bring joy to your entire family.

  • Post your activities/stories in the thread below to be entered into a prize draw
  • One lucky MNer will win a £200 voucher for a store of their choice.
Here’s what Immersive Gamebox has to say: “Our new immersive PAW Patrol experience is designed to be a fun activity for children and parents alike, with the ability to adjust the level of difficulty depending on the ages of the players. The experience promotes teamwork and includes educational elements that are integrated in an engaging way with the mission to make screen time social.”

We love going out on our kayaks. it’s just really good as you’ll all get together. They’re inflatable so you have to get them ready, L ifejackets on and things and we don’t go far are we stay near the shore but it’s just really enjoyable way, of just spending some time together

We love going to the zoo as a family. We've got two littles (nearly 4, and 16 months). Lots of animals to look at and learn about, and a nice picnic for lunch. Then if they have any spare energy at the end of the day, there's a great play area to burn it all off on.

SnowyMouse · 18/07/2023 16:24

We love having a family evening in, with films and popcorn, or snacks and board games.

sharond101 · 18/07/2023 19:39

We love days out with stops for ice cream or fish and chips. The beach, park or anywhere we can have an adventure together.

SittinOnTheDock · 18/07/2023 21:52

Everyone loves a disco. Lights out, curtains drawn and take turns to choose songs. Even better with some flashing or glow in the dark toys or fancy dress.

googledidnthelp · 18/07/2023 22:13

Definitely swimming for our little family, so much fun and activities which just can't be replicated anywhere else and suits all of us in different ways.

SweetSakura · 18/07/2023 22:14

Paddleboarding/kayaking/walking the dog... anything active and non competitive tends to be best.

Littledogball · 18/07/2023 22:20

We all play Minecraft together. The kids design the worlds and buildings and the adults wander around exclaiming how wonderful everything is and working jobs like making pizzas and running cafes!

ohdannyboy · 19/07/2023 07:17

We love camping together, we have a great tent, foldable chairs, power banks galore a stove and lots of memories together messing around by water, drawing wildlife and listening to rain pattering on the canvas.

pushchairprincess · 19/07/2023 07:20

we love board games and try to play in the evening and at weekends - teaches taking turns, counting and winning and losing, snakes and ladders and ludo are family faves - maybe will move onto Monopoly one day.

jacqui5366 · 19/07/2023 07:22

We still use our Nintendo Wii and love to play 10 pin bowling together - It's been the best console we ever owned for games. We take turns, support one another, write down scores and create new records.

Montydoo · 19/07/2023 07:28

Yes - we loved our Wii too - makes me think we should get it down from the attic ! One activity we love to do is the birthday person. - lay down on a unrolled length of wallpaper, draw around the person, and cut out, then we decorate with a face, clothes, hair, and use a collage type decoration.
It makes lovely memories, pursues creativity and we measure last years to see how much we've grown (I have 3 years worth now and they will - one day - be lovely to unroll and look at)

LittleDeeAndME · 19/07/2023 07:32

We love camping (in the back garden) with sleeping bags, blow up beds, torches and pizza - I know it's not 'real' camping but the fun we have and when we have story time - it takes a whole new feel reading by torchlight, and we love to listen to the birds - evening and dawn chorus - it heightens our senses to sounds we would not hear in doors. We will draw in the tent and really bond as a family.

TheGirlWithGlassFeet · 19/07/2023 07:34

What a lovely thread. We love going on a long dog walk in the woods, well I say love it is a challenge to get the kids out the house but when they there they enjoy it and it's so nice to have a chat as we go around.

HobNobAddict · 19/07/2023 07:36

Family time is walking around the local area - we love in a rural area so collecting leaves, and identifying trees, watching the animals grow through the seasons, sheep, goats and cows - lovely in spring, and drawing what we have seen, including leaves from the trees (usually those which have been blown down by the wind)

DinkyDaffodil · 19/07/2023 07:42

We cook together on Saturdays - usually pizza (making our own dough) teaches weighing, reading, and we cut up vegetables, peppers, sweetcorn, tomatoes, onions and mushrooms - my children will eat vegetables (a love or yellow and red peppers has been created from this) - sometimes I will buy premade bases if the mess has been overwhelming the previous week 😆

itsywitsy · 19/07/2023 07:45

Riding our bikes together is something we do as a family, with longer rides at the weekend (weather permitting) around the local reservoir. The fresh air exercise and being together can be a wonderful experience - we take turns on who is where in the line to prevent arguments

LadyFuchsiaGroan · 19/07/2023 07:58

We like to go out as a family walking. Its a great way of talking to each other and I find my children open up and tell me so much about their lives. We also enjoy playing word games when we are walking, we name countries, Pokemon etc from A to Z and also play I spy. Games are brilliant at distracting them when they complain their legs are starting to get tired Grin

TrustPenguins · 19/07/2023 08:27

Love going on walks together.
Love our holidays, weekends away & day trips.
Love meals out as a family.
Love watching films / TV together and playing Mario Kart!

Beabeautiful · 19/07/2023 11:53

We love singing ! It's just lovely - my DH is an accomplished musician, guitar, piano and violin - we sing songs together regularly, nursery rhymes, Ed Sheeran hits and we LOVE christmas carols - it a release and joyful

BlueChampagne · 19/07/2023 12:14

Our kids are both teens but we like playing board games and card games. Prediction Whist is a favourite with a bigger group. Board games can be silly and strategic ( such as King of Tokyo). Yahtzee can be quite strategic, while Cribbage is good for numeracy (number bonds to 15), and takes up little room so easy to play while waiting for a meal in the pub.

Ozzyskye · 19/07/2023 12:24

We have a movie night every Friday that grandparents come to too. DS(5) gets to choose the film and we have popcorn and snacks.

I've also started parkour which my DS does too and though we have separate classes it's nice to have a common interest we can share.

lillypopdaisyduke · 19/07/2023 15:44

Riding bikes together, making scap books, and photo albums of holidays - yes we actually print ours out 😉, snakes and ladders, writing down champions in a book - we use 2 dice - helps with mental arithmetic without them knowing !

voyager50 · 20/07/2023 07:04

Blackberry picking, picnics and singing and playing round the piano together.

FearTheWankingDead · 20/07/2023 07:20

Movie nights. We get pillows and blankets and make a comfy nest. We can all snuggle up and watch a cheesy movie. We ignore bedtimes and enjoy some snacks together.
No phones or interruptions. We love it. Plus it’s so cheap, only a few quid for some popcorn and cookies.
