Whether it’s a Christmas classic or a recently released blockbuster, we want to know what films you’ll be watching at home with the family this winter.

  • Post your film choices in the thread below to be entered into a prize draw
  • One lucky MNer will win a £200 voucher for a store of their choice

Here’s what FindAnyFilm has to say:

“With so much out there to choose from these days, it can be tough to decide what to cuddle-up and download on a cold December night when the kids are finally in bed, or what DVD to add to the big-shop for your next family film night. The latest research shows that personal recommendations are the reason 83% of people give for picking their next film or TV show to buy or rent, which is why Mumsnet is the perfect place to help you choose what to watch from now until Christmas!”

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

Elf! Every time! Smile

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 28/11/2021 18:35

Home Alone plus The Wizard of Oz & Sound of Music

minimecantrollerskate · 28/11/2021 19:57

DD has forced me to watch Nativity 1, 2 and 3 today.

We’ve never seen Elf so downloaded that one.

Compulsory Christmas watching is

Christmas with The Kranks
National Lampoons Christmas Vacation
Home Alone

It’s A Wonderful Life (our kids have to watch it ever year: they’re adults now, they have free choice: our grandson is 17 months and has already seen (been made by his mum) it once Grin)
Animated Christmas Carol. Don’t like Jim Carey generally but it’s a great film.
Muppets Christmas Carol. Michael Caine is fab. Rizzo the Rat even better.
Home Alone, obviously
Die Hard, obviously
And Jingle All the Way: it’s utter shite but one scene made the children howl with laughter until they cried and snotted and I’ll always be grateful to Arnie for that memory.

(Lastly and randomly, TV Dracula from a couple of years ago, if that counts. I’m still in awe of Sister Agatha)

It's got to be The Snowman. Perfect mix of nostalgia, funny, and sad. And it's not very long, so great for short attention spans! Also, It's A Wonderful Life. And not especially Christmasy, but it reminds me of Christmas, Mary Poppins. Love the songs in it!

Umbongoumbongo999 · 29/11/2021 07:00

The Grinch is our go to Christmas family movie. I'm also looking forward to West Side Story at the cinema. We usually try and go on NYE.

SuzCG · 29/11/2021 10:49

We all have different favourites in our house - so have to watch lots of Christmas movies... Hurrah!
My DH would always choose the Home Alones (still not left schoolboy humour) the kids would watch the Nativity films on loop and my personal favourite is Elf.

Dyra · 29/11/2021 11:23

Muppets Christmas Carol is my all time favourite Christmas movie! I watch it on loop this time of year.

EvilRingahBitch · 29/11/2021 11:39

Dune, Spider-Man and Bond at the cinema
Arthur Christmas on TV as ever

Kippersfortea · 29/11/2021 13:37

LovelyLupins · 29/11/2021 20:04

The Christmas Chronicles is a family favourite, and this year we will also go to the cinema to watch the new Spiderman film.

popsocks · 30/11/2021 06:44

We really want to watch a boy called Christmas. We are reading it first and then planning a movie night on the big screen!

Beurre · 30/11/2021 09:40

Another one here for Home Alone. We watch it every Christmas without fail and it never gets old.

Ruralbliss · 30/11/2021 12:14

Last Christmas- went to see it as a happy accident when my mum took kids to see Star Wars in the screen next door. Came out claiming it was my new favourite (festive) film

Also want to see The Boy who would be King
