Whether it’s a Christmas classic or a recently released blockbuster, we want to know what films you’ll be watching at home with the family this winter.

  • Post your film choices in the thread below to be entered into a prize draw
  • One lucky MNer will win a £200 voucher for a store of their choice

Here’s what FindAnyFilm has to say:

“With so much out there to choose from these days, it can be tough to decide what to cuddle-up and download on a cold December night when the kids are finally in bed, or what DVD to add to the big-shop for your next family film night. The latest research shows that personal recommendations are the reason 83% of people give for picking their next film or TV show to buy or rent, which is why Mumsnet is the perfect place to help you choose what to watch from now until Christmas!”

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

Last Christmas!

CloverField · 23/11/2021 20:54

We love watching Christmas films together as a family! All snuggled up on the sofa with some food is just perfect. Our absolute favourites that we will be watching are:
Elf
Miracle on 34th Street
The Santa Clause
The Polar Express
Robbie the Reindeer
Jingle All The Way
Christmas Carol
Home Alone
The Christmas Chronicles

Dizzywizz · 23/11/2021 21:18

National Lampoons Christ Vacation definitely- my favourite Christmas film!!

Laney79 · 23/11/2021 21:25

Miracle on 34th street and Scrooged on Christmas Eve...love bill Murray!

And this year I'll be adding muppet Christmas carol and polar express, as well as the snowman as my son is nearly two so might sit for a few mins with mommy!

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 23/11/2021 21:29

Arthur Christmas, Elf and Home Alone.

CMOTDibbler · 23/11/2021 21:34

Die Hard 1 and 2. In fact I've already watched half of Die Hard as it was on and once flicked onto we watched until I fell asleep...

GoldenMarmalade · 23/11/2021 22:20

The grinch and home alone. We've vowed to wait until December... but the weekend is going to be tricky Grin

JunoMcDuff · 23/11/2021 22:36

Muppet Christmas Carol is my all time favourite. But also looking forward to rewatching Last Christmas, I think it's an underrated film.

mandes1 · 23/11/2021 22:57

It has to be Elf!
Home Alone is great too - or anything that includes snow!
Ah, looking forward to this Christmas xx

Obakarama · 23/11/2021 23:13

Always Miracle on 54th street. Did I get my bet right,? We alternate year on year, b/w and colorised.

CheesySausageFishTrifle · 24/11/2021 06:41

Another vote for muppets Christmas carol. The soundtrack is on my Spotify in preparation for a drive/singalong over the Christmas holidays.

SmileyClare · 24/11/2021 08:38

Another Elf fan here , love Will Farrell, and any of the Nativity films. Xmas Smile

AmazingBouncingFerret · 24/11/2021 10:54

Daddy’s Home 2
It’s one of our favourite Christmas films!

RainbowsAndSequins · 24/11/2021 11:29

All the Xmas ones! We tend to watch one a day, to fit them all in.

Especially love:
Muppets Christmas Carol
Elf
Polar Express
The Holiday
Love Actually
Scrooged
Deck The Halls (so underrated! It's brill!)
Jingle All The Way
Die Hard.

And then we have Indiana Jones, Star Wars and Lord Of The Rings for after Xmas lazing TV binges.

CatNamedEaster · 24/11/2021 16:16

Home Alone. DS hasn't seen it yet so I think he will love the slapstick of it.
It's a Wonderful Life. Never seen it (only a few clips) so I want to watch that finally.
Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline.

stealingbeauty · 24/11/2021 16:23

We always watch The Snowman at Christmas. It’s been a tradition of mine since I was a child and it’s a special tradition for all of us as a family to this day. It’s a magical film to watch when it’s frosty outside and the anticipation of Christmas is all around.

We also watch The Sound Of Music as a family, but that has Boxing Day/post Christmas vibes for us.

melanieb32 · 24/11/2021 17:31

Die Hard is always on our list along with Home Alone, Elf, The Polar Express, Christmas with the Kranks, Gremlins and The Santa Clause

purpleclaire · 24/11/2021 17:59

Elf is our number one Christmas movie, plus I am partial to The Sound of Music.

MonetManet · 24/11/2021 18:18

My son wants to watch A Christmas Story. It’s very American but it’s what I watched growing up. I’ve told him how it was always a Christmas tradition for me growing up, so he wants to see why!

jellybeanpopper · 24/11/2021 18:25

Home Alone.

HouseholdBubblesandEeeeek · 24/11/2021 20:04

Elf always makes me laugh 😂

LassoOfTruth · 24/11/2021 20:43

The Muppets Christmas Carol is a must around here every year and I recently introduced my 4 year old to all things Muppet! Also probably Elf, and Home Alone. It’s a time for nostalgia!

Mojoj · 24/11/2021 20:45

Elf and Its a Wonderful Life. It's not Christmas if we don't watch them on Christmas Eve, eating chocolate.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 24/11/2021 21:16

Arthur Christmas. We’ve watched it every year on Christmas Eve since dc were tiny, they still insist they watch it now and the eldest dc is 18.

XiCi · 24/11/2021 21:17

Always watch Home Alone, Miracle on 34th St, National Lampoons Christmas Vacation and Elf. Have been loving The Christmas Chronicles in recent years as well
